View Full Version : We need our own denominational logo

I noticed that the Eastern Orthodox and Charismatic have their own logos on the top left of the page, for us it's the default foru.ms logos. We should get our own, any ideas? I'm thinking a portrait of C.H. Spurgeon would be amazing.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7b/CHSpurgeon.jpg/150px-CHSpurgeon.jpg
Since this image has been released to the public domain, we can modify it however we want and add some quote or something to it. Never mind, I don't think a portrait of an important figure is the best idea. I'm thinking of an image with bible in it, or something.

Not all Baptists are fans of or have even heard of Spurgeon (I myself have nothing against him, I'm in the latter group mentioned).
I have a suggestion for the logo that might be more universal:

Perhaps one incentive for CF giving us our own logo wouldbe for more Baptiststo be using their own congregational forums.
As you go around the site you can't move for Baptists, but few venture into here. If they did then this place could be as busy as OBOB

heheh~I have been attending a baptist church for about 4 years now, was here for a while, but set up shop over at CC after the 777 thing. I check in here now and again to see what's up. I'm really not much of a baptist~definitely not "reformed" or "southern", so I drifted out. But you are right~there are lots of baptist icons out there that I rarely see in the congregational forums. Guess they have their reasons, maybe just "nominal baptists"?
hehehe the casserole as baptist symbol would be fun :D

Just to explain my own status re this thing.....
I was born and raised a Salvationist, and deep down I guess I'll always consider myself one,but I now attend a Baptist church and and happy and settled doing so. Therefore, I also consider myself a Baptist. Of course, first and foremost I'm a Christian, but if asked my denomonation I now say Baptist

Also, a lot of stuff related to the Southern Baptist convention uses a globe/Bible combination: http://www.sbc.net/ I kind of like that.

Heard of Spurgeon, but would never agree to using the image of a man for a Baptist icon.
What is it with food? I have attended countless fellowship meals with fear. I don't see what the attraction to lukewarm casseroles that have been sitting on a counter for unknown hours and then again during the service. Bacterial nightmares!
Oh and the green bean casserole... Yuck!
And another thing, my mom does not attend a Baptist church, yet they have more fellowship luncheons than I have ever seen before.
The problem with illustrating Jesus' baptism is that we tend to picture Jesus as we want to see Him, not as He is.
...he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
The one thing I do believe Baptists have in common is an open Bible. As for the swords, the Bible is our sword.

The pictures with the swords and shield look very cool, and I do like them. But this is my favorite one, because I don't want for us Baptists to be accused of being militant or too aggressive.
I understand that the swords represent the Bible as the Sword of truth, (pretty good series of fiction fantasy novels by that name, btw  ) and the shield represents the Shield of Faith. However, for the reasons I stated, I prefer this wonderful photo and graphic arts done in this picture here, my brothers and sisters.

Let me just say this, traditionally, Baptists will not be typecast.
Just because others have a custom this or a custom that, does that we have to?

Nope, but thats just my opinion.
My church, as well as many others in my area, could not be distingished from any other church. It does have great brickwork. It does have stained glass windows. it doesn't have a steeple 20-30 ft tall drawing peoples attention. We have no pictures of Jesus in our sanctuary. Our walls are very plain. In fact, if it were not for the sign out at the end of the road that said: "Crowders Mountain Baptist Church," you would even know it was a Baptist church.
If my life, my actions, my testimony, my faith doesn't speak for itself, I see no need for "decorative logos" just because others have it.
Baptists have been known for their testimony and desire to their to go against the "norm."
Its my belief in Jesus Christ and the scriptures that define me, not some "logo."
to me, this is almost like that line from the movie Miracle on 34th Street." Commercialism. Lets dress this up, package it so that it will be more appealing to others.
As Ebenezer Schrooge said: "Bah, Humbug."
If that is what you guys want, fine. But count me out.
We seem to be forgetting our roots. Since this is "Refeomation Day," we seem to forget what the Refomers did for us. And because we didn't want to be like others, we came into existance. But we seem to be forgetting that aspect.
But, as I said, that is just my opinion. If you guys want it, fine, but count me out.
And since I'm in the minority here, I'll just bow out of this discussion.
I'm outta here.

Oh, brother. Sometimes I wonder if there's a single forum within Foru.ms that isn't fraught with dissention. There's even dissention about having a lack of harmony!?! :(
IMHO, I think it's fine to have something Baptist-specific. That doesn't make us any less harmonious or any less part of the Body of Christ. Nor does it, in some way, make us lemmings. It simply symbolically shows what we believe. Moreover, I had hoped to create something pretty that people would enjoy seeing at the top of their pages that was different than what was already available as mastheads.
I can certainly take out wording like "Baptist Foru.ms" from the graphic if that's going to settle everyone down.

I'm new to the Baptist Church. I have attended many denominations, I get so confused from conflicting teachings. I don't even know who those people are that were listed in this thread. Never heard of them.
All I know is, I recently started attending a Baptist Church and me and my husband love it. We were recently saved... I have actually been baptized 3 times... but I don't think I was actually saved. I was baptized in the Christian Church as a kid....I really did not know what I was deciding... Then, at 18 I was baptized Mormon... Then, a few years later, I was baptized Apostolic in a church that believed in "oneness" and not the Trinity...
So, I'm new to all this. And some of this really confuses me.

<whispers>
most people don't know this, but KFC also stands for: Kounted for Christ
(It started in Germany, hence the K in Kounted)
That's why Baptists go there.
(But don't tell!)
Given that Immersion plays such a large part in our experience, shouldn't we hang at Dunkin Dooughnuts?

Idunno. I'm guessing it'll have to be put forward to Lee and his team for approval and the such

I think that the suggestion of one of Jesus' baptism is a great idea. That or we should put something with a Bible in it. Preferably the King James Version. ;) Just kidding. All Baptists believe in sola scriptura so why not something with a Bible in it or something in reference to sola scriptura?

 Anything but KFC!!!! You tryin' to kill a happy chicken, or what???? lol
But, save the chickens, don't use KFC.
Don't let yourself become confused by denominational teachings. Just join a good Baptist church that preaches the true Gospel and stick with it.
