Well I wanted to try to post a poll and this it a topic that's been on my mind lately. So I'm just curious about how people handle dinner in their households. I'll go first to say that I think it is so iportant for families to share meals (hey ACTS make a point of mentioning the the early Christians ate together). But it's so hard sometimes. By the time I was in Jr High I was in activities from 3 in the afternoon to 9 at night, so dinner either meant a sandwich in the car or between practices or soup late at night by myself. I'd like to do better with my own family but I hate to deny my kids the things I got to enjoy. It's all about priorities I guess.

I believe in eating at least one meal a day with all of us around the table. Usually dinner time is when we eat together. We almost always eat late too, but that is okay I strongly believe that it is better to eat together than eating early and separately. It can vary from 6 pm -8pm. Usually during the week it is earlier during weekends we get to eat later. We try for breakfast too... but I am not a morning person and I cannot make a meal out of it...:(. No one in our family is a big breakfast eater fun either.

I live alone now. But I voted that it is important. I used to make it a priority. I think that some families are on the run so much that it is not possible and I can be understanding. Maybe for them breakfast together with people getting up earlier to be together is the answer. But families need time together and a meal together plus praying together I think is important.

I forgot to mention that "clean up" is easier too after all the family pitches in with the dirty dishes. But of course it improves family prayer practice also.:)

Philothei- I'm sooo glued!

I imagine that in your husbands line of work he gets home very late so it's important to have that time together...

I had friends in high school who regularly had dinner at 10pm or later because their parents insisted on eating together, so they waited until their Father came home from their printing business and I was just reading in some magazine about a family that travels to the parent's law firm to picnic on the floor just so they can be together.... So I know it CAN be done.
Our next door neighbors have breakfast together every morning, I bairly get up in time to brush my hair. I prefer the European version (which is fadeing there too) comeing home and eating lunch together, resting, going back to work/school, and then coming home for a late dinner.

yes, I do like the "doing lunch together" over dinner but with out current situation( his work is too far from home) we cannot. We used to have both lunch and dinner together. Since our home was one mile away from his work :)

I personally liked it because it gives you time to spend more time together. It is true in countries like Greece we share more meals that dinner and it is nicer also taking a nap during the day. But in big cities the "siesta" is not practiced any more. People there are as busy as in the US nowadays.... We are losig the sense of family and shared meals everywhere in the world... :(

I ditto this!!!!!!!!!!

In the states, we had dinner every night at a certain time and ate all together as a family. Now, with 3 different school schedules, and the main meal in the afternoon...unless I starve our youngest until 2:30, we can't even all sit together for the main meal, which is the one, most often shared together. However, we do try to sit atleast all together in the afternoon, even if 2 are eating, and 2 are drinking water or something. And on weekends, hah....too busy running around. I used to cook, but it sat there....so it is off and hopefully some good resturant with healthy meals on the road....Ugh!

I think it is important to eat together as a family. We rarely did when I was growing up and I would always ask my parents if we could.

In my family, we currently eat together at least once per week. My husband is a chef and comes home from work at 8:00pm or later. With homework for me and my son, we just can't wait that long. When my husband got off earlier, we would eat together every night.

We manage to eat dinner together a handful of times per week. As oldest is off at college, it is just 3 of us now. Wife usually does not get home until 7:30, so eating around 8:00 works pretty well. I grew up with family dinner as a must....so I do think it is important to do it as often as possible.

We generally eat at least 6 meals together during the week. We usually eat dinner together as a family on week nights, and on Saturday we "eat out" at a restaurant together. I grew up in a family that ate together, and I have so many good memories of sitting around that table and talking etc. I want that for my kids too.

I live alone, but I think it's good to do unless it's just not possible because of schedules. We usually ate together when I grew up.

Around here is is the ideal, but I work evenings part-time. When I am home we do eat together.

I try to eat with my boys at dinner at least 4 or more times a week. It gives us time to talk and focus on each other.
