Psalm 34 verse19 "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of all of them."
The Lord is the great physician and healer of our souls and bodies, I have faith that he will be there at the side of Tyler and all who love Tyler during this time.

Lord Jesus Christ, Thou Son of God, have mercy on your servant Tyler and on his mother!
:crosseo:
O God of spirits and of all flesh, Who hast trampled down death and overthrown the Devil, and given life to Thy world, do Thou, the same Lord, give rest to the soul of Thy departed servant Tyler in a place of brightness, a place of refreshment, a place of repose, where all sickness, sighing, and sorrow have fled away. Pardon every transgression which he has committed, whether by word or deed or thought. For Thou art a good God and lovest mankind; because there is no man who lives yet does not sin, for Thou only art without sin, Thy righteousness is to all eternity, and Thy word is truth.
For Thou are the Resurrection, the Life, and the Repose of Thy servants who have fallen asleep, O Christ our God, and unto Thee we ascribe glory, together with Thy Father, who is from everlasting, and Thine all-holy, good, and life-creating Spirit, now and ever unto ages of ages. Amen.
This prayer is for the parent to read, but I don't see why it can't be modified:
Parents’ Prayer at the Death of a Child
Master, Lord my gracious and merciful God, who long ago
heard the grieving voice of Your servant Jacob as he wept for
Joseph, saying: I shall go, mourning, into the grave next to
my son. You yourself, O compassionate Lord, comforted
David, the king and prophet as he said in his grief: Absalom!
My son, Absalom! It would have been better for me to have
died in your place, O my son, Absalom! Your divine Son and
our Savior, in His mercy for the grief which a parent suffers,
raised Jairus’ daughter and the son of the widow from Nain;
and in this same compassion and loving kindness, He
healed the daughter of the Canaanite woman. O gracious
and merciful Master and Lord, look down from heaven and
behold the grief in my heart, the heart of a parent, as it sees
its hope for life snatched away: The good and righteous life
of my child through whom I had longed to praise the power,
wisdom and goodness of Your holy name. But as I stand
before the impenetrable mysteries which You alone
understand, my mind turns to the fervent prayer which Your
Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, offered before the holy Passion,
in the garden of Gethsamane, saying: Father, if it is Your will,
take this cup from me! Like Him, I also bow my head before
You today and cry out: Lord, let Your will be done! Like the
righteous Job hearing of the death of his children long ago, I
also cry out in humility and confess: The Lord gives, the Lord
takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Though I am
13
torn by grief, yet my faith in You and Your ineffable mysteries
remains unshaken as I now beseech Your mercy and
compassion, Lord. Grant forgiveness, Lord, to his/her soul
for whatever sins he/she may have committed in work, deed
or thought; and bring him/her to that place of eternal
blessedness, together with Your Holy Angels. At the time
which You shall choose, grant that I too may join him/her, so
that together we may sing of Your immeasurable glory. For
You are the God of mercy and compassion and the Lover of
mankind, and we offer glory, thanksgiving and worship to
You: To the Father and the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now
and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen. [1]

CENTERVILLE --
A 5-year-old boy died Thursday night after he apparently fell out of the car he was riding in and was run over earlier that afternoon, police said.
Centerville police Capt. Garrett Cooley said the boy died from injuries sustained in the accident.
According to Cooley, here's what happened:
The child's mother was driving the car when she stopped to check the mail at their mobile home park in Centerville.
Her 7-year-old, 5-year-old and 3-year-old were playing in the back seat and opening and closing the doors, police said.
When she got back in the car after checking her mail, all three of the children were in the car.
The mother drove about 60 feet when she heard the 5-year-old cry out, "Mama."
The 5-year-old apparently opened the rear passenger door of the moving car, fell out of the vehicle and was run over by the right rear wheel.
The accident happened on South Cambridge Drive. The mother scooped up the child and ran to a neighbor's house on Ridgewood Drive to call 911.
Police were dispatched at 5:37 p.m. The boy was first transported by ambulance to Houston Medical Center and then to The Medical Center of Central Georgia.
The accident remains under investigation by Centerville police.
The Houston County sheriff's Juvenile Division also is investigating, which is protocol any time law enforcement handles a child fatality, said Capt. Jerry Stewart, division head.
Are using seat belts and child safety seats not a State requirement? In Texas, from the description in the paper, she'd be in trouble and CPS would probably be investigating her.

Yes. However ...
Tyler was past the safety seat size (I do not know if he was still in a booster but that has no bearing as those simply adjust the child's position WRT the belts). Children of that age can (and do) unbuckle their belts and it doesn't take long for them to wriggle out, and parents can forget to check (I know from experience).

Our daughter figured out how to unbuckle her car seat when she was 18 months old -- and would frequently do this while I was driving.

I hope no one wants to heap blame on this woman. What's done is done; you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube, and she's going to spend the rest of her life tormenting herself with the "what-ifs". No one needs to add to her torture.

Oh do I remember the seatbelt wars! I used to stop the car very quickly...(After I pulled over, of course) and say..OH no...Someone took off their seat belt, look what the car did....!!!
However, they figured out after sneaking very quitely that the car still moved, and the little sneaks, would out of the blue shout.....<MOM LIED> the car is STILL Moving!!!
You can not blame the mother on this one!!!! Kids are kids...and even if you have 10 sets of eyes, just blink once and something major can happen in a split second.
I really pray for the mother that she will someday (Sooner than later) understand it was NOT her fault....because surely she is so down on herself right now that nothing will be able to console her broken heart and guilty feelings that are hovering over her like a black cloud.

All cars sold in Australia have child locks on the back doors. When activated the doors can only be opened from the outside. I haven't had to worry about using it as our kids have learned never to open the doors until it is time to get out of the car, but if such an option is available in the States I would recommend using it. It would have saved this tragedy from happening.
Continued prayers for Cynthia. She has two other children who need their Mum to keep it together. Lord have mercy and comfort them all.

Only the luxury cars seem to have that feature where the back car doors lock automatically when the engine starts and stay locked.
And when you no longer have little ones, that feature is a pain, but if it will save a child's life, it is worth it.
My parents never had four-door sedans. They always bought the ones with two doors so that the kids could not get out. However, with those child safety seats, the parents must buckle them in and now four-door cars are essential.

20th October 2007, 11:41 PM
The feature that prodromos is talking about is different than the automatic lock when the car is in gear. I believe it is standard on all cars. On my dad's old car, there was a little switch that was only accessible when the door was open, and once you switch it to the locked position, the door can only be opened from the outside, whether the doors are locked or unlocked. The reason I know is that my dad's car had it activated, and we thought the door was broken for years because someone always had to let those passengers out. If you look in your car's manual it should tell you where the switch is located, and I think given what happened to poor little Tyler, it would be well worth it for everyone with little ones.

Cars have had child safety door locks on the rear doors for years. It's a little sliding rod that you push that's in each rear door at the outer panel. If you push it, then it's impossible for rear seat passengers to open the door; it releases the door handle from operating the door latch. It's different from locking the electric door locks and disabling the passenger locks from the master switch. This is strictly a manual locking function. My 2000 Hyundai Elantra has them on the rear doors, and I don't think 2000 was the first year for them.
