I think it wonderful we have the Cafe here in PRE, but I hope there is room for yet another fellowship place (one that is a little different).

The Soup Kitchen is now open as well. Our menu is simple (soup mostly). Our hearts desire is to serve :prayer: Our specialty is chicken soup (for the soul) :yum: Our doors are open to all.

I wonder how long it will take for this soup to get cold or bitter.

Hi there, may I have some of that good Chicken soup to warm my soul?

How about some bread and wine (or grape juice)?

Should we break the bread and offer it to all who profess their faith in Christ? Regardless of denomination?

May we all share some of this wine?

Let us come together in a spirit of Christian love.

Let us all Praise God for his Son and our Salvation in Him.

It can be offered, but many of them won't partake because it wasn't prepared in their own churches. :(

I've got a good buddy who's Southern Baptist. When he goes to their picnics, aw man! He always brings me some left overs and are they good. Somebody share their best fried chicken recipe! Or any other recipe! It's that time of year when folks (at least down here in my neck of the woods) are gettin' them chili pots ready......Oh, and hot apple cider time, too!

One of my favorite times of the year is when Silver Dollar City (in Branson, MO) re-opens in November for their Old Time Christmas celebration. The hot apple cider, the food, mmmm. Gettin' ready to go for the weekend on Nov. 8! Have any of y'all been to this? It's wonderful. It is also Christ-oriented. Really. They have a big building that has an indoor replica of Bethlehem with people in dressed up in era costumes. Also, you take this cool train ride and you stop out in the woods. There's this old man sittin' on a rocker and he tells you a story about what Christmas is all about-Jesus Christ. It's really cool. My wife and I really like it and so do the kids. Anyway, the Soup Kitchen looks and smells grrrrrrreat!

I am very curious as to what makes cucumber sauce so incredible. While I enjoy cucumbers in salads and such, the thought of a cucumber sauce turned my stomache until I tried a gyro with it. It was incredible. On those few occasions when I am able to get out with friends, we go to a Greek Restaurant down here called "Peter Pan's". All the staff wear shirts with "Lost Boys" written on them.

:) That is a good policy but sometimes you have to be careful with it. During a trip to Spain I kept getting a dish pronounced pie-ay-ya (have no clue as to how it is properly spelled). I had it every day for a summer and it wasn't until I returned stateside that people told me how it often contains squid and shark. I knew of the muscles ( my guess is that is not the correct way to spell that either) but I thought the rest was chicken. The sad thing is I still crave it, but have found few places down here that can compare to how the Spanish could make it.

Don't feel badly. I come from a long line of fantastic chefs but somewhere between my grandmother and myself the ability got lost. While I love to cook it is something that I have to always be thinking about.

You reminded me of a story I had forgotten about, and am very thankful to now remember. One day I was helping a good friend move some furniture. I got to meet her father. Initially I figured that since his daughter was 43 (and looked like she was 23) that he had to be in his seventies though he moved around as if he was only in his forties. While moving I got the chance to spend a good deal of time with him. His daughter was an incredible cook (especially when it came to soup), but often told me how her skills were nothing compared to her father. I asked him how he became so good and he told me about serving in WWII. He talked about learning some skills in the years before joining the navy, but really studied while serving as a cook. There was a problem in his story as the math in my head wasn't adding up about his age.

Later on I mentioned this to his daughter, Traci, and she told me that he was 92! People in my family are deceptive with their ages and what they are able to do (most women live well into their 90s with few health problems), but he was well beyond amazing. He moved around without problems and had neither memory problems nor problems with his eyes or ears. Even more amazing was why he became so talented at cooking. As the US was entering WWII He wanted to serve his country and joined the Navy. Since he was black he was only allowed to serve in the kitchen (sorry as I forget the proper military name). Instead of becoming bitter, he decided to be the best at it, and made every meal enjoyable to those he served. He learned all he could, including the chemistry involved, to master the ability. I asked him on many occasions to write about his story and about his cooking secrets, but he would only shrug it off saying he was just a simple man, unworthy of such attention.

"Diet" is such an ugly word.

I saw a show a couple of weeks ago with John Travolta on talking about why he works out so much. He does it so he can continue to eat like a pig. :)

The area I live in is really neat. 10 years ago, there was a very small hispanic population. My idea of a Mexican restaurant was Chili's or Taco Bell. Then, we had an explosion of immigration due to the chicken plants expanding and the booming economy in the area. Now, we have a large hispanic population and there are so many good, authentic Mexican restaurants. It's awesome. The food is incredible. I don't know what I like better, southern fried chicken or a chimichanga:yum:

Unfortunately for me, while we have many great Italian restaurants we have very few Mexican ones. Oddly enough, in North Florida there was an all you can eat Mexican buffet (literally in the middle of nowhere) that I loved, but down here there is nothing even remotely close.

Greetings Everyone,

I figured I would make use of the Soup Kitchen for this. I have a prayer request. Today is my social security hearing for full disability. Please keep me in your prayers that I am able to finally get on social security (took two years to get to this point).

I met with my lawyer yesterday and he says everything looks good except for three points, and none of them are easy to fix. The first part is that I still look the part of a linebacker. It is not easy to tell how sick I am. That leads to the second problem, my smile. I have to get rid of it for today and it is not something that is easy to put away. In highschool I was nicknamed The Cheshire Cat. :) Even when I am very depressed I am still able to smile. Today I have to look the part so no smile. :( The third problem is my disease is a very rare one and odds are good that the judge is not going to have a clue about it despite the 120 pages of test results and info from the 38 doctors I have seen thus far.

Thank You for your prayers,

Greeter :) (oops, grr) :(

What disease do you have Greeter?

Greeter

What disease do you have Greeter?
A couple of funky ones. :) The two big ones are MSA- Multiple System Atrophy (previously known as Shy Drager Syndrome) and CFIDS- Chronic Fatigue. They then break down into many smaller ones: Fibromyalgia, Orthostatic Intolerance, Neuropathy (arms, legs, hands, and feet), etc.

Basically, from what the specialists have been telling me, I had gotten a virus that infected a part of my brain that shouldn't be able to be infected. The immune system detects this virus and works at full throttle to battle it except that it isn't able to. Meanwhile my nervous system is breaking down, especially the autonomic part. It makes for a vicious circle. The brain gives bad information to areas such as the heart and lungs meaning that not enough blood and oxygen make it back thus causing the brain to give further bad information. Initially the only part of my body that was damaged was the nervous system, but now due to all the bad interaction, my organs are becoming damaged.

I had really beaten the odds on this one. Dysautonomia (the parent disease) is rare to begin with. MSA is the rarest form of dysautonomia. It is nearly unheard of to get MSA before turning fifty (I became sick with it at 30). Now, I only hope I beat the last one- how long it takes to become terminal. Usually it kills within 7 years. I am hoping that since I was so healthy before, and young, that I am able to beat that one. :)

Thank You for your prayers. :)

I think the hearing went well. The Judge wants to take time to review the case, but my lawyer believes it is due to a couple of good reasons. The first is that there is nothing on the books that matches my disease. The second is to understand all the tests that have been run. We should hear something in 2-6 weeks- an eternity, but I guess I need more practice with my patience. :)

ej
4th December 2003, 06:48 AM
Gah! I'm sorry to hear that, Greeter...

It's a shame that judges look for concrete evidence - I wish they'd realise that humans do not have concrete evidence for everything they suffer, think and feel... there are limits to science and medicine... so people like you end up suffering longer :(

I'll be thinking of you and praying for God's will to be done :prayer: Be strong... :)

Hey Greeter,

How did your court case go?
It didn't go quite as well as I would have wanted it to go, but I don't think I could have changed anything to make it better. My attorney warned me ahead of time that rare diseases are difficult for the judges to get a handle on. The judge was interested, which was a good sign. Supposedly we will find out his judgement in the next couple of weeks. My attorney has already told me that he will easily take it to the next level as my case is a sure thing just waiting for the right person to see the incredible stack of paperwork. :)

Just to let you know, it is only the ninth day of christmas, we still got three more days to PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and then the feast of the Epiphany!! mmmmmmm Feast!!

That is the coolest word ever it transfers into so many langauges and doesn't change much:

Feast - English
Fete - French
Fest - German
Fiesta - Spanish
Feshta - Portugese (spelling probably not right here but phonetically right on)

Well if anyone is hungry enough, stop by Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Fresno, CA, this sunday at 10:30 for communion and then our Annual Aeblskiver Brunch!!!!!!

Aeblskivers are spherical pancakes indigenous to Denmark. There they are hunted, usually sporked!! From there they find thier way to a plate near you! Where you mayest commit to smothering it in butter, applesauce, preserves, or what other delights your palate.

MMMMMMMM, makes driving to Fresno from Maine all worth while!!!!!

Now there is a team I know next to nothing about. When they were first created, along with my favorite team (Jaguars, followed by the Steelers in a close second- would be disowned by the family if I didn't list them), they were showing incredible promise but then they fell of the chart. How has their season been? Are they expected to be a challenge this game?

I think they broke the record for winning games in overtime this year. I have changed my opinion on the realities of "luck" as a natural force based on watching them. However, they just might do it. They have the best kicking game and thats how you win in the playoffs.

I don't think we will be sending anyone to LYO, maybe Hope Lutheran, Trinity or Good Shepherd are, they are quite a bit bigger than us.

But maybe God will move in our Church and we'll get hordes of kids, and ship em off to San Antone (wink). I would appreciate some further info though, if you could email me, the address is in the profile.

Are those still around or are they back to regular and double stuffed?

Greeter! They do have all sorts of Oreos out...at least here. They got your regular ones, Double Stuf, Reduced Fat, then there's chocolate covered, the new Uh-Oh's (chocolate cream surrounded by vanilla cookies), Peanut butter/Chocolate cream, Mint/Regular Cream, Coffee/Chocolate cream.....and now they have these new Oreo bars....which is like a long oreo cookie, covered with a long section of cream, all coated in chocoalte. Umm...I guess like a Twix, but with Oreo cookie and Oreo cream. :)

I'm from Louisiana and so naturally my favorite crow recipe is Crow Creole :yum:

Crow Creole

Ingredients
2 medium onions
2 fresh chilies chopped
2 ribs celery
3 cloves garlic minced
¼ pound butter
16oz. chicken broth
1 can whole tomatoes
1 small can tomato paste
8oz. ketchup
1/8 teaspoon white pepper
1/2 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
1 tablespoons hot pepper sauce
1/2 tablespoons garlic sauce
1/4 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 pound (12 pieces, or so) crow breast chopped into bite-sized pieces

Preparation
Brown the crow breasts in a skillet with butter or oil. When browned, place them in a Sauté onion, celery, chilies and garlic in butter until tender. Add the above ingredients and all of the remaining ingredients to a crock pot and cook on low for 6-7 hours.

If the roads are in better shape this weekend, maybe we'll go out then.

Heh, heh. I forgot to take a really good look at my work schedule. I don't remember if I work Saturday. The BRR ride is this weekend. It's a round trip bike ride from P**** to R*****. About 23 miles. Talk about insanity. In 1985, we had -25 windchill, and there were 320 cyclists. This thing has been an annual event for 27 years.

As a Floridian it is difficult for me to even imagine a -25 windchill. I start looking around for my jacket once it gets in the 60s. :)

I wish there were more parties in my life. :) I was a bit under the weather around the holidays. Valentine's Day seems to affect my birthday more than Christmas or New Year's.
If the roads are in better shape this weekend, maybe we'll go out then.

Heh, heh. I forgot to take a really good look at my work schedule. I don't remember if I work Saturday. The BRR ride is this weekend. It's a round trip bike ride from Perry to Rippey. About 23 miles. Talk about insanity. In 1985, we had -25 windchill, and there were 320 cyclists. This thing has been an annual event for 27 years.

Party at Kim's this weekend! You're all invited!
(I'd better get cleanin'!)
I am bringing the Oreo's after last week on this MB I went to the store and bought 2 boxes of each... FUDGE COVERED are the Berries!

I work 10-2 on Saturday.

Sounds cold. :)

j/k, it actually sounds like fun. My moms family is from Penn so I have gotten the chance to be around snow. We also used to vacation in Big Bear California so I even know how to ski. You can count me in for some fun in the snow. I just don't want to be around it more then a week. ;)

Wanna help me shovel white crud? I may need to climb on my roof tomorrow and knock some snow off. Hopefully my weight won't make it colapse. ;)
What I should do is use the porch broom to shove it off while I lean out the window.

I can see me now...

Usually that's my employer.

They're under the impression that everyone who works for them along with the entire student population live on campus.

Amazingly they closed the school today. Of course, it was after 9am that they did so.

Good Day, All

Soup Please! Tomato with a bag of Chez-its. Bill sits at a coner table and slowly crumbles Chez-its in his hands over the bowl of soup.
