greetings and blessings to you all brothers and sisters!

my question is with regard to the teaching and practice of the Oriental Orthodox Church and icons. Do you use icons of Christ? of the Saints? if you do use icons of Christ, how does this fit with the doctrine of the one nature of Christ?

my sincere thanks in advance for your responses.
love in Christ,
pjw

Yes, they use icons.

I'll let someone more experienced answer the rest of your question.

MY BROTHER,

Forgive me for speaking out of turn, but your question appears to indicate that Copts are monophysites. They are not. Copts, and other Oriental Orthodox Churches, believe in Christs' two natures in one hypostasis as do the Eastern Orthodox and other Christian groups.

You might want to read the sticky--Why Copts are NOT monophysites above at:

MAY YOU BE BLESSED!

Hi Ephraim! Thanks for that link! Do OOChristians venerate icons too? Like praying through them and such? Also, does one have to do these things to be OOC?

MY SISTER,

Yes, of course Oriental Orthodox venerate Icons--in the same way Eastern Orthodox do. (Have you seen the Icon in the 2nd Post at

http://foru.ms/t5992804-now-we-can-have-our-own-logo.html

It is the most beautiful Icon i have ever seen!

Anyway, no, there is no "requirement" that i am aware of either in the East or among Oriental Orthodox that Icons be prayed through or even owned. They are, however, a great tool for deeper prayer and awareness of the presence of God and the Saints in our daily lives, and they come heartily recommended by all Orthodox traditions. i cannot image being without them.

If you are having misgivings or questions about Icons, as it sounds as if you might be, try reading "ON THE DIVINE IMAGES" by St. John of Damascus. He does a very good job of explaining the why's and wherefore's of Icons.

A BOND-SLAVE IN CHRIST,
ephraim
