View Full Version : A decree about the name... Xpy
Xpycoctomos

Okay, this thread is about as self-serving ad pitiful as it sounds because it looks like it is all about me... and it is
:preach:
Recently I have been signing as Xpy and not John. This is because 1) there are lot of John's here and sometimes I think "Why was that directed at me? Ah, it's one of the other Johns here" and 2) because people have been using it and I think it looks pretty cool.
HOWEVER... I also, primarily, THOUGHT it SOUNDED pretty cool too, until I tried looking at it from another perspective.
When people see Xpy, I realized that most may be phonetically picturing something like "Zippy"... and when I imagine Zippy, I imagine a cuddly but speedy bunny rabbit figure... and I'm not a rabbit.... nor did I intend to be picutured as one lol. Also, I picture a Tweedle dee (or dum) figure with the little spin cap on their head... and I don't even look like that (although that would be fine.. but that's not me). LOL
So, let me tell you what I hear when I write Xpy:
Cree.
Yup. Because it comes from Xpycoctomos prononounced more or less like Chrysostomos. Don't you agree that Cree sounds better than Zippy? So, let's see if we can change how we hear that name, shall we?
Look at the Xpy and say "Cree" 7 times aloud.
God bless
Xpy
PS: Thank you very much. :)

Brothers can be so cruel. I treated my sister awful for so many years because I was disappointed that she was a girl. I had two older sisters who used to pick on me, and so I thought it was great when I finally had a brother and I wanted another brother. There is a picture of me holding her soon after she was born, and you have never seen such a disappointed kid in your life. We are good friends now, and we both have that picture framed.

Why Cree and not Creec? And if Creec, why not spell it Creek? And as long as we are pronouncing that much of it, why not Creek Octomos? Which because a creek is a body of water, makes me think Creek Octopus? But that seems a little long, so I might just call you Octopus. But then that seems a little bit like I don't respect you, which I certainly do, so maybe I will call you Doctor Octopus. But then it's gotten long again, so I think I will shorten it to Doc Ock. But that's only if it's okay with you.

When he was announcing a correction o how to read his name, I thought perhaps he was going to say that it was to be pronounced like Neutral. And I thought, that's clever (but, I guess that's stupid because what would that even really mean??? It would be like "lewquorm" lol!)

The official accepted form of pronunciation of "Xpy" is:
[Drumroll please...]
/Cree/
While other pronunciations are discouraged, Zippy is expressly forbidden by the powers that be (Xpy and Doc Ock) and you will be thrown out with all 8 tentacles of Xpy's Cool Club.
With his alter ego:
[Drumroll please...]
Doc Ock
Represented by (but not limited to) any of the following smileys   :ebil: :tutu:*
* You may not inquirer as to this reasoning behind this last smiley. Any suggestion that Doc Ock has a sensative "artsy" side will also be punishable by anathema from Xry's Cool Club by the tentacles of a very manly Doc Ock.

At this point I have to say that I have pronounced your name as "Χρυ", that is the proper pronouncement, as it is the original one. Roughly it is like "Hree" or "Chree" (something in between actually, harder than mere "h" and softer than "ch", a bit like hebrew I guess!).

I wonder if you are aware that the letters XPY, in Russian, are "kH"* , "r" and "oo", respectively.
"kHru" (or kHru-kHru) in Russian is the noise a pig makes; ie, 'oink oink'.
(Ducks the pan thrown at him and runs away...):P

I was going to chime in with Vasileios - if you're going to write pseudo-Greek you ought to expect Greek pronunciation but on second thoughts I'm going to refer to you as Gura.
You may or may not know but St. John Chrysostom is Ioan Gura de Aur in Romanian and as you appear to like shortening down the name, Gura it is. It also has the added advantage that I can tell you to shut up just by adding one of these to the end: '!'
