View Full Version : Disgraceful, to say the least

I was listening to Laura Ingraham's radio program this morning. She talks a lot about the pornification of our culture, and she has a book out called "Power to the People" I'm interested in buying which addresses this issue and other issues in our culture and government. She read some news story this morning that had me shocked and angry. She said we have let this happen for years, even decades. When are we going to stop it?
The story was about a huge parade that happens every year in San Francisco. This year, they decided to have a display of people protraying the Apostles and Jesus at the Last Supper scene (geez, once again...just a few weeks ago, I'd posted that somebody's church did a play on this, but this story is 10 x worse), in which Christ and the Apostles are homosexuals, all naked, and instead of bread and wine, they have sex toys.
Lord, have mercy. Done in ignorance or known, they need prayers. That is sacraligious (sp?) and not to mention disgraceful and disgusting. :( :(
Anybody's thoughts on this?

It's a sign of the times.
Of course, if they tried to do that Perv-phet Mohammed and HIS followers, there would not only be worldwide riots and murders, but the PC left would be screaming about hate and intolerance. Hate and intolerance is only ok if it's directed at Christians.

Pray for them, and if the opportunity presents itself, rebuke them and exorcise them.

And to think that 100 years ago, this would have been unthinkable. The US is on the decline.

They are cowards & only offend those they know will not retaliate. There are other religious groups they would lack the courage to even constructively criticise.

Gradually, our morals are getting worse. We tolerate more and more blasphemy and sacrilege as normal behavior, gosh and gee included.
What will be acceptable blasphemy and sacrilege in the next decade?
Come Lord Jesus.

Has it yet descended to the depths of Corinth or Rome during the early Christian centuries?

I think so, perhaps it is now worse, with the persecution, raping, and killings of Christians in Cuba, Bosnia, Iraq, Egypt, etc. continuing. Instead of the Roman Empire persecuting Christians it is the Communist and Islamic countries who are doing so. However, in tolerant countries where Christians are "free" to practice their religion, everything goes, and so the dangers are not so obvious. Hence, we are subject to all sorts of temptations that weaken and can destroy our faith as we are taught to be tolerant of evil doings (open homosexuality, abortion, satanism, etc.) in the schools and in society.

A group of young Catholics who are out protesting wherever they see our Lord or his mother being degraded. God bless them.

No, I'm not making a Fr. Vasiliy comment here - but this really burns my biscuits. And to think, thye probably got gov't funding for this travesty. All I can do is pray, both for them and my own anger. Even so, come Lord Jesus.

:crossrc: God bless them. I would love to become part of a group that defends Christ and does such things. I'm glad to see there are at least some groups out there doing something about stuff sick as this.

Homosexuals Mock 'Last Supper' With Sex-Toys Twist
By Susan Jones
CNSNews.com Senior Editor
September 25, 2007
(CNSNews.com) - Organizers of San Francisco's Folsom Street Fair -- sponsored by Miller Brewing Co. -- have portrayed Christ and his disciples as half-naked homosexual sadomasochists in the event's promotional advertisement, and the conservative group Concerned Women for America is complaining about the hypocrisy of it.
[/URL]"The bread and wine representing Christ's broken body and lifegiving blood are replaced with sadomasochistic sex toys in this twisted version of Da Vinci's The Last Supper," CWA said on its Web site.
"'Gay' activists disingenuously call Christians 'haters' and 'homophobes' for honoring the Bible, but then lash out in this hateful manner toward the very people they accuse," said said Matt Barber, CWA's policy director for cultural issues.
"In their version of The Last Supper, Christ, Who gave His life for our sins, is despicably replaced by sin itself as the object of worship."
CWA is calling on California politicians -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sens. Feinstein and Boxer among them -- to "publicly condemn this unprovoked attack against Christ and His followers.
"We further challenge the media to cover this affront to Christianity with the same vigor as recent stories about cartoon depictions of Mohammed and other items offensive to the Muslim community," CWA said.
The Folsom Street Fair describes itself as "the world's largest leather event."
"We hope to see the fairgrounds filled with people in their most outrageous leather/rubber/fetish attire enjoying the worlds largest and best loved Leather fair," the Web site says.
Concerned Women for America called it "shocking and offensive" that California taxpayers are forced to foot part of the bill for the Folsom Street Fair. The City of San Francisco sanctions the event by shutting down several city blocks and providing police for security.
The Folsom Street Fair Web site says young people are welcome: "While we don't have any age restrictions at the gates we do inform attendees of the adult oriented nature of our events." The fair organizers say beer and liquor age restrictions are strictly enforced.

If not, then maybe San Francisco can be renamed.

Christ chased the pharisees out of the temple physically, I believe the anger displayed here is justified. It's a good thing I'm not going to be there... my anger would not be so just. This seriously makes me want to brutalize them. This is absolutely sick. I'm really not cut out for this type of thread.

How about when people who are TAWers do the rebuking? The results there seem equally nonexistant. Some people like to be angry. Others try to seek common ground as a way to reconcile others to the Church. When the peacelovers speak up against the angry people, they are squashed and demeaned. I think that at this point, most threads in TAW are negative and damaging to everyone here. Gone are the frequent inquiries by non-Orthodox and the vibrant well-wishing of those here for one another. Now every other post is an attack upon someone. What has become of us? Is it any wonder so many have left?

No. This is merely a way to shock and gain attention, just like dipping a cross in urine and calling it art, or smearing a painting of the Virgin Mary with elephant crap and calling it art, to give two examples from recent years. It's seeing how far one can push the envelope.
How about I smear dog crap on a Koran and then open a museum to display it? After all, that's not disrespect, it's just showing that I wish to find some way, any way, to identify with Islam. How about I take a star of David, wrap it in my baby's crap filled diaper, and put that in my museum, too? It'd just be my way of trying to identify with Judaism, after all.
I agree, Ortho. It has to do with respect and honoring one's religion. I wouldn't think of doing anything like that to other religion's "gods" or cherished things. :sigh:

Wow. I didn't make this thread to start arguments. I apologize that this has happened. I was upset and angry over this, and I wanted to share my feelings and the story with my fellow Orthodox. I thought this was important information that one doesn't catch or get to see on the news. I'm sorry if this thread got people fighting. :(

It's kind of blasphemous, ya. But I clicked on the picture to see what it actually looks like, and it isn't like the photo is actually Jesus and the Apostles; It's just a bunch of guys (and I think a couple of girls :P) in the same Last Supper pose. I mean, it's kind of bad, but nothing that really gets me riled up.
My heart must be awfully hardened spiritually.

Well, i found out today, on Laura's show, that the Catholic League is pressuring the Miller Corp. (who's sponsoring this garbage) to not only pull their logo (this disgrace), but also pull their sponsorship for this, as well.
