Question--- i visited fortune tellers frequently before I came to Christ. and a former friend who is a chrisitan same time a fortune teller himself, he could tell so many true things for a person's future.
There r many things happened here around me seem to prove those, too, how to understand?
If the prince of this world telling the wrong, why so many follow and believe? they have some true areas, too.
And, what is the different from Prophecy?

I think it is possible to backslide as Christian. But the important thing is now you are sure you are Christian. Anyways, I have a take on this. I think that those evil spirits that pretend to know the future, are what are called familiar spirits which are mentioned in the Bible. I think even there was a woman who was a fortune teller and demons were cast out. I think demons do not know everything of the future, but they do know some things like of heaven and hell, and they know what is common etc. I think demons even can tell somebody something will happen on a certain day like a person will say something, then they can influence a person to say it, giving the appearance that somebody predicted the future. Demons can make a person see something, and make another person see something similar, so why not "fortune telling?" Demons do possess people sometimes, or sometimes simply tempt a person to say or do something. Such as when Satan possessed Judas, or influenced Peter to argue with Jesus.
The most obvious difference between God's prophecy and evil spirit prophecy or fortune telling is one is Holy Spirit one is not. One will glorify God one will glorify persons or something else.

Real Christians would never "dabble" in occult, which is what fortune tellers are! Make no mistake, if you wade into that stuff, it will kill you, spiritually and physically.
Fortune tellers, palm readers, seers... these are people who have "chosen" to defy God. Some of these people are simple ignorant... other work the dark side for the devil. Either way it's a big mistake.
Who do we, as Christians, trust... God or man.
Difference: prophesy comes from God, fortune telling and such do not.
God gave us a spirit connection as well as sound minds so we could tell which is which(witch?).

Turn everything over to God because it all belongs to Him; even our future. If we can do that, then we will never suffer from loss or disappointment.
Proverbs 16:3-4 Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. The LORD works out everything for his own ends [not ours] — even the wicked for a day of disaster.
James 4:13-15 Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."

Hi, there are people who have demonic abilities, such as you describe above. It's in the nt and old testament.
In the new testament one incident:
Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. 17This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved."
18She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, "In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!" At that moment the spirit left her.
Hence Paul in the name of Christ commanded a demon to come out of her.
Now in the Old Testament gives more light:
Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in [a (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=5&chapter=18&verse=10&end_verse=12&version=31&context=context#fen-NIV-5395a)] the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you.
You can see from above that God calls all such detestable.
First it is by demons that they do such, or have such abilities to do so.
Another reason:
Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance, 14 and did not inquire of the LORD.
demons are evil. God is not evil. In this second verse, note that it's said, and did not inquire of the Lord. God is who we should go to for all things.
Prophecy is telling someone what God says to them to another. Occurs frequently in the Old Testament. God would tell a prophet what to say and the prophet would say such to whoever God told them to.
Also prophecy is saying what will occur in the future; such and is recieved from God and given in ot and nt.
In the New Testament; Jesus is called a prophet for He speaks the word of God and also speaks of the future.
So in the NT or Old, those who speak the word of God or tell what will occur (as is from God) such as prophets in OT and Jesus and others in New testament.
Now, some today, even on this site, believe they have the gift of prophecy. I wouldn't go anywhere near anyone who says such or practices such.
Because what they do is basically fortune telling and not prophecy. It is possible, as God is able to do anything, but I doubt very much there are prophets today, as God has given us His word, the bible. There is no need for prophecy as God has given us the word.
Some also say they have a word of truth, in other words they say God told them to say something to someone. I would run far from that as well.
If someone says they are prophet (sp) and do not speak what is in the bible, beware.
For that is what prophets do. They speak Gods word, was not yet written in OT when they prophecied(sp), and in NT, that was not written and either they were prophets, speaking Gods word given them, or they were referring to scripture in the Old Testament.
Also, there are false prophets and false teachers.
I am sorry that a brother wrote that 'real christians' don't do certain things.
All Christians fail and sin all the time, regardless of what the sin is.
So, it is by demonic ability that people foretell. Many fortune tellers have no demonic ability and say common sense things which the hearer believes.
But since is detestable by God and is by demonic power then it is evil and since detestable is a sin. We all sin, but we try not to.
Some come to Christ out of the occult, such as pychics, witchcraft, satanism etc, and struggle much as one I read for example, can bend spoons with his mind only.
Was asking was this bad to continue to do. Yes, it isn't good to continue to do. So, people who come out of such and become a Christian may struggle for a time or long time as to what they did before and struggle not to once they come to Christ. As we all change differntly, some immediately, some slower, some very little, everyone is different and on different places in their walk with God and understanding of God and the bible and all that's contained.
God bless you for your question.
blessings,

Understanding comes by the spirit of God and on His timeline. In other words, He will give you what you need when you need it (to achive His purpose). When you try to force it you are stepping out of the spirit and into the flesh. You are walking according to your own will, not His.
Job 32:8 But it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.
2 Peter 1:21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Thanks sister:wave::)
It is demonic power and guess what, it is v addictive.....
someone tells me it is from carnal on another forum, but actually it is not a carnal thing.
It is something so strange in spiritual area.
When I came closer to the bible lately, the lord showed me this , and I v practised more than one of those spiritual things, witchcraft, new age, etc. They used to comfort me and gave me energy to move on my life. Fortune teller is another thing which practised by the traditional culture around me here, so almost all the friends have done that.

Your welcome sister....
We all struggle to let go of things we need to in our lives. Every one of us.
Many years ago in the 70s was into all this stuff, to a very small degree, but read stuff and never stuck with me, nor troubled me in any way.
But other things I did in the 70s and 80s, I stay clear of because they are my weaknesses, tho I don't struggle with them, cause I stay clear from them.
So now 20 years after coming to Christ, got whole new struggles, hehe, and God is faithful and I have no fears, and I can hear your confidence my friend. We are saved by grace thru faith in Christ nothing more and there never is any reason to fear..
I praise God that He has revealed things to you.. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!
You're doing awesome!
May God bless you richly!

ahhh...'real christians' sin all the time..so not sure where your facts are from.
I agree with your words, respectfully so concerning the other post....part of our mission on earth is grow like Christ....but it is a lesson long in life to learn... at least it was for me. I believe He will never leave us not forsake us....
Romans 7:14-25
14We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[a (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=romans%207:%2014-25;&version=31;#fen-NIV-28095a)] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
21So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22For in my inner being I delight in God's law; 23but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. 24What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
I will add more later...

I keep pondering about this, why it is detestable?
My question seems silly maybe, in my culture, it is the basic and everyone has experienced part of those witchcraft or fortune teller , in my culture, big business or big policy sometimes done decisions by those ways, too.

Fortune telling for one is trying to learn things God did not give us to learn yet. I think in a way it is like trying to control future. Another it is consulting with demonic spirits to learn of something supposed to be in God's timing etc. God does not want us to grow closer to demons or the world, but to Him. Maybe the shortest answer is it is detestable because it is disobeying God.. Also Satan is also called the "god of this world" and the world is full of sin etc. It is not uncommon for humans to want to do things their own ways, but it is not God's way.
And I noticed you typed you are half fortune teller because you used to practice things. I think you need to not say that, because you are not slave to demons, but are transformed in Christ and a new creation. The past is past, the new Restore is who is here now.
Now God gives you visions too, or lets you see spiritual things. I believe you are spiritually sensitive for God's purpose, but as you know, this purpose is nothing in practicing witchcraft, but you are not those. ;)
In this world there still are evil spirits influencing people just as Paul cast out and was in jail then the Lord's angels freed him from jail right? There are false prophets too, but have to use discernment. Sometimes it is easy to think somebody is false prophet if we do not listen or try to understand. Yet sometimes there is persons trying to be famous by prophecy etc and claiming things that do not honor God such as "you must give to their ministry a lot of money to be healed" but sometimes the false ones are very deceptive, and as I said it is requires a lot of discernment.
When a person blatantly says "ooh i am a fortune teller, or psychic" you know they are not doing it for God.
I personally am weary of persons who say "i am prophet so and so" because it can be misleading. It is best to ask for discernment in these matters. There are many who call themselves prophets who are not. must be careful. I believe we really are nearing those times of Jesus because of this.
