View Full Version : Bible Study Teacher Sign Up Thread
reddogs
23rd September 2007, 08:14 AM
This is the 'Sign Up' thread for those who want to be teachers in the New SDA/Bible Study Forum.
Per pending vote on rules, the Bible studies will be started and lead by individuals who are Seventh-day Adventists and who sign up to be a teacher. Per pending rules, if any challenge is made to the teacher, they can ask to be approved by a majority vote.
Since it is pending on the vote on rules, it will be used as a list for those wishing to teach, then if/when the rules approving it are passed, as the list of the teachers in the New SDA/Bible Study Forum if no challenges.
Sign in and for the first time we will have everyone fill out a short questionaire so that those coming in can know a little about their teacher.
Here is the site for 'The Adult Sabbath School Bible Study Guides' or the Sabbath School Lessons:

Questionaire (pending rules)
"How long have you been a member of the SDA church?"
"Why do you wish to be a teacher here?"
"Have you had any previous teaching experience?"
"What subject(s) do you have in mind to teach?"

I'd love to, but I'm going to stick to periodic vollenteering as I'm too much a newbie. :)
I was just thinking, that maybe we need to have some guidelines and an explination of what exactly the teachers would be doing, before people apply.
Like, for example, how many teachers can be selected. The difference between a teacher and a vollenteer. The process of how studies will be set up.
Also, maybe an actual questionaire to fill out when applying. Like, how long you've been a Christian/Adventist. have you taught before. Why do you want to do this. What topics are you hoping to teach on..etc.
What do you guys think?
(This is still fine to set up those who are wishing to, though)

I agree. There should be certain criteria to qualify people for teaching.

Yes, but I had already stuck my foot in by posting the Bible Lessons for this quarter which is what I had talked about doing from the start. So I thought we should do it in a orderly fashion to prepare for the rules, so signing up does no harm and allows for a orderly review of who is putting any bible studies.....
Dont worry, God is guiding we just have to follow....

I have decided to remove my name from the list of teachers. I'm having issues with the way things are going in here (the SDA forum and CF in general), and I'm not sure that this is going to work out.
I do want to continue on with the memory verse thread though. I could really use that kind of fellowship right now.

Hello my brothers and sisters,
May I suggest that Red go ahead with the Sabbath School Lessons. It would seem to be in the best interest of all concerned to start using the regularly schedualed SS Lessons guides as soon as possible because each day that goes by is another day that we as a group won't have covered what is available for study. This is not to say that we couldn't go back and cover them later, but I think you all will agree that that is most unlikely.
In addition, there may be some who dont have a SS Quartely and next week we start a new quarter with a new topic. By starting now we will each have a complete set of lessons for our own refference when the quarter is finished in December. These notes may include additional thoughts from others that otherwise would not be had.
I must say that Red has done his homework well. He has posted two excellent links to help you sudy. Also by starting now with the SS Lessons you will get used to studying together. I really don't think anyone will get off topic or start any debate over the SS Lessons.
Do I hear an AMEN?
Respectfully, your brother in Christ,
Doc

Wonderful, Doc. I totally agree. :) Considering it's just going along with the quaterlies there's really no need for any sort of criteria to chose Red, I don't think.
Wasn't aware we were already at a new quarter! I haven't touched mine since July when I last made it to church. :( Shame on me!
Looking forward to studying with you guys!

Yes, Red, please make SS into a sticky. So people who wish can participate in it.
I was thinking of making a subfora for SS. But that'd be too many layers.

Questionaire (pending rules)
"How long have you been a member of the SDA church?"
My whole life (38 years).
"Why do you wish to be a teacher here?"
To teach the pure and true Gospel of Jesus Christ.
"Have you had any previous teaching experience?"
Approx. 8 years of teaching 7-12 grade Bible classes, 10 years of pastoring experience, being on the committee that put the curriculum together for 7-12 grade Bible, and 3 years of 'other' teaching experience.
"What subject(s) do you have in mind to teach?"
The pure and true Gospel of Jesus Christ, and subjects related to it.*
*In the even that this forum becomes an open and honest Bible study forum, without pre-determined answers to questions raised, I would like to be considered. Until then I'll consider my 'resume' to be 'on file'.

Why would anyone have concerns about someone who has lived and taught SDA beliefs, teachings, culture, doctrine, and theology their whole lives?

That was the concern I was addressing, that some don't think the studies themselves will be..hm..as good as they could be, to put it simply.
Not concerns about your abiltity to teach. ;)

Free, when it comes to 'concerns' can you honestly say that you are not in disagreement with any one of the 28 fundamental beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist church, and can do your bible studies and not violate the rule that nor should anything that is contrary to any of those beliefs be inculcated within a Bible study. ?

No, I can't. Which is why I qualified it with this statement:
"...it to 'be on file' until if and when the forum would open up to true honest and open Bible study without pre-determined answers to questions."
The fact that all the answers to any questions that may be brought up have already been determined disqualifies it as a true, honest, and open Bible study. I would be open to leading a true study that was not designed to meet an agenda and arrive a pre-arranged destination determined by the interests of a man-made denomination.

"How long have you been a member of the SDA church?"
About 11 years
"Why do you wish to be a teacher here?"
Because I believe God has given me the gift to teach
"Have you had any previous teaching experience?"
I worked as a Bible worker, and taught a few Sabbath school classes. I haven't had as much experience as I should have because for the most part elderly folk have tried to suppress my gift (most aren't willing to give up a Sabbath school class to allow the youth to develop their gifts).
"What subject(s) do you have in mind to teach?"
I would like to go through the epistles of John, verse by verse. But whatever the Lord inspires me to teach is what I desire to share with whomever it is that is eager to learn.

What we really need is a facilitator. I won't even attempt to do this because most people have no confidence in my ability to lead in this forum.
So if you would like to try to take on that role then that would be good, since it is one that is needed.

If there are no official teachers yet, then there should be no reports for SDA's starting threads here, unless everyone who has started a thread or is currently teaching in threads gets reported and warned too.
And, in addition, the rule 5.3 needs to be restated to say that ONLY approved teachers can start threads. The warning that has been handed out so far is unfair.

Not being raised as an adventist I have to take exception to what you are saying here. Except for the IJ all of the doctrines of the sda church are very solid Biblically. The IJ is weak in some areas but still is supported by some major texts in the Bible. Open honest

That's so awesome, thanks Doc!!
One thing I'd definitely like to study with fellow Adventists is the "schoolmaster" mentioned in Galatians 3. It's an interesting topic that I think we'd all benefit from exploring. The translation is a little "off" and the true meaning of the word paidagōgos is pretty surprising. Once you know the true meaning, Galatians 3 and 4 make perfect sense.
Also, I'm still dying to dive into Hebrews 3 and 4, and the three "rests" mentioned in those chapters.
As you know, I start back to college in August and I won't have any free time then (not that I have much now with my summer job). I'd really like to study either/or of the two things I just mentioned before I get back into the craziness of my classes.

I think I'll start a thread in D&D about Galatians 3 instead of going into an in-depth study here.
I'd still really like to do the Hebrews study though!
