How do you feel about Catholics/Catholicism?
While I'm reformed Baptist - my husband was raised Roman Catholic. When we were first married I attended church with him, but when it became apparent that I was the only one going to church on Sundays I decided to switch back to a church I was more familiar with. My son attended and graduated from a local Salesian high school. My daughter-in-law is also Roman Catholic - and is raising my 2 grandsons in the church (although they attend with me on occasion also). Finally, my sister & brother-in-law are practicing Catholics.
All this to say that I am fairly familiar with RCC doctrines and teachings (for an outsider). There are things in RCC that I don't necessarily agree with - but that isn't just true of the RCC, I have some doctrinal differences with some protestant denominations also.
I feel that in any church (denomination) there are men and women who are truly regenerate, there are also men and women who are unconverted. It is not my job to determine who those folks are however.
If this wasn't what you meant, if you have further questions - let me know.

Thank you. :)
To follow up, do you believe that Catholics can be Catholic (that is to say, follow the doctrines of the Catholic Church) and be saved?

Yes - that's why I made the comment about converted and unconverted in all denominations. I know many folks who are strong Catholics and are saved. At the same time I've attended church with people for years whose behavior (fruit) ultimately indicates that they aren't saved. We aren't saved by the church we belong to - we're saved by God's grace and He shows that grace to whom He chooses (again, regardless of denomination). God doesn't see our denominational lines, He sees across and beyond them.

are you an edie? I've only ever met one under ~80 years old.
how did you come up with your user name? My maiden name starts with "B." When I was in high school all my friends just ran everything together and called me edieb (I guess because it rhymed). Eventually we just shortened it to the phonetic spelling;) The "19" is Steve Yzerman's (now retired) jersey number.

I was the only edie in 13 years of school (and I attended a high school with >1800 students). I was ~14 years before I even met another edie - it was at my grandfather's funeral. My dad called me over and introduced me to a lady in her 80's (this was in the early 1970's) - he told me that this was his babysitter when he was young and that's who they named me after.

I'm a Barbara and in the late 1940's every other girl baby was named Barbara. In my homeroom of A's and Ba's there were 3 other Barbaras - and 2 unrelated had the same name. I would have sold my baby brother for a different name! LOL!

I am, actually, an Edith - but only my dad calls me that. Oh and his wife (because she learned it from him).
I can identify with your personal comments. My older sister is Sarah. We called her Sally until she started school. The days of Dick, Jane and Baby Sally reading books put a quick end to that nickname. I also have a sister Julia - as I recall there were 5 Julia's in her elementary class.

In my family, forgetfulness has NOTHING to do with age. My poor uncle, the pastor once introduced himself as Bryan. His name is Barry.

It never happens to him when he is preaching. The only time I have ever seen him get a bit discombobulated in the pulpit was on his 60th birthday. The entire Congregation switched seats. He would get going on his sermon and then, stop and grin, make a comment, then, go on again. He would say, "Where is my wife?" because he was so used to looking out and seeing his family sitting together.

My pastor has a tendency to "mis-speak" at times. Once he was teaching from Exodus and was talking about Pharaoh and Moses. He said "the evil Moses" instead of "the evil Pharaoh." One of our church members made him a t-shirt that reads "but I digress.";)

Oooh I must remember that! :snork:! great!
This has turned into a really lovely fellowship thread.
As for 'discombobulating', I am the master of unintentional spoonerisms. At age 21, when assisting at an operation, the room was completely silent and the operating lamp flickered. Just to break the silence, I looked up and loudly remarked "Ooh - it's just like Pilladiccy Circus in here!"
Life's just been downhill from there!

Yes, I'm an Edie as well (Edith). My middle name is Blanche. At one of my jobs, my friends started to called me EdieB(the rhyming thing):D since I signed everything with my full name.
I've only met one other Edith, at another job - she worked out of the NY office!
