Seajoy,
I am so sorry that I have not been around lately. My internet service forced me to take my own haitus, it's been sporadic at best, but now seems to be on much more than off.
I am sorry that you have had such a rough time of it. I pray that they have gotten your meds straightened out now.
You know you are always in my prayers. I am praying that you feel stronger soon.

Today has been good so far. I take it one moment at a time.
It seems they have gotten my meds straightened out. The new one they had tried for my fibro and depression, had very bad side effects for me. I had been on it since January, and kept hoping to feel better, but they kept increasing it, and I just kept getting worse.
I praise the Lord for all the days I do well, and today I'm doing the best I have in weeks. :amen:
Thanks so much for everyone's prayers. They are needed and appreciated grately.

You could always try saying "It goes against our religious beliefs." If that doesn't work, tell the little heathen to stop shoving his pagan religious festivals down your throat. Ya know, with the same attitude the non-believers hit us with when we share what we believe with them. LOL

And may I suggest Psalm 46....I have been reading that one daily, for the past couple of days. It too is a wonderful source of comfort. There are many times that I wrongly take on all my problems as though I can fix the things that make me sad, and to my dispair, "forget" to leave all things in the Almighy One's hands.

LOL!:D PR you are a pip! Are you two back on good terms now?
Zee, you could always wear the Papal regalia with just a few accessories. Sorta like a tail, horns peeking out from under the Miter, and of course, the obligatory pitch-fork. Well... maybe not. LOL it was just a thought...
I had no problems with Halloween till the excesses began. The poisoned and booby-trapped candy, the satanic rituals, etc... My youngest and I spent an hour or two every year discussing and remembering those who had passed on. His mother, grandmother and father, aunts, uncles, etc... After all, the 31st is all Hallows eve. The celebration of our beloved departed and brothers and sisters in Christ. It's the eve of All Saints Day. Hence the connection with the pagan Druid holiday.
There are some redeeming qualities to this holiday. It's not completely pagan. And Zee, throwing the same insults back at the unsaved (even though they deserve it and it just might feel pretty darn good) isn't a good idea. We are to live in this world. This is where the Amish have erred. They have separated themselves from the world and hidden away in their enclaves. I think a Christian can participate in the Halloween celebration. We just need to keep an eye on our focus and try to turn this celebration back to it's Christian direction.
I remember a reformed church in Chino and another in Garden Grove (So. Cal.) that had a harvest festival the 31st and a church picnic on the 1st. Both were very successful and quite popular with the community at large. The Garden Grove church attributed a considerable amount of their growth from the festival/picnic format. It was a way to reach out to the unsaved on their own terms in a fun and unthreatening or intimidating way.

Well actually the original idea was this. I was going to be Pope Benedict and let's face it that's one scary lookin' dude. Kinda reminds me of Count Dracula. I envision him sweeping down on the villages at night looking for young children. So, since I already have a pair of dental acrylic fangs, I thought I could be the Pope as I see him, a blood-sucking vampire. LOL The reason I didn't initially offer this info is because I thought someone might come thru the forum and report me for making fun of the count, er, I mean the pope.

Ah, but even the emperor didn't have the power he claimed to possess. Remember he told Anakin that if they worked together they would be able to discover the secret to cheating death itself. Anakin assumed that they would be able to do this while Padme was alive and before she gave birth as his vision revealed that she would die during child birth. Unfortunately, thanks to him and that little force choke on Mustafar, and betrayal of the Jedi thing, his vision did come to pass.

I wouldn't. I heard years ago that some can carry leprosy. Don't know if that is true but they are related to the possum, only they have armor or an exoskeleton. Possum can be eaten but most people prefer not to indulge. Don't know about armadillo

I head the Braille, I wanted to try and get more involved in helping before I left. We just finished with it about a week ago. I ended up running off a lot of the braille sheets myself. I didn't go sunday, a couple of people said there was hardly anyone there. One said she tried counting, she counted 17 adults and maybe with kids made it about 25 there sunday. Average was running 80 to 100 a week before the pastor left. Usually runs now between 30 to 40. People are leaving cause they know they can't change anything and everyone's afraid to say anything. I know I cant change it not by myself anyway.

If they push it too far, it will make things more clear to you why you have to leave, though. It did for me.
If you view things differently, so be it, but they need to accept that and respect your right to do what you think is best for your faith. It's sad that some people just can't see that and think they can force you to their way of thinking.

Unlike a car battery, which could possibly leak, motercycle and gel cells are generally sealed and do not usually leak. Besides, a motorcycle battery has a slightly longer service life than a gel cell and I may already have a charger for it.

Well all Chris is going to do with the dog (he's hoping anyway), is put in a fire detector (sense of smell), he's going to try to give the dog the ability to "hear" voices and respond to simple questions, and he will try to make the dog mobile (with a sensor to tell it where stuff is, so it won't bump into anything). There is no way that he will be able to make it just like the one on T.V.!

The pastor took a call and left at the end of April of this year, the call committee got info from the congregation and sent it in, still waiting for names from the district office. There is an interim pastor but he's got a big church. The thing about it is there were a few wanting to do the services themselves when there's about 9 retired pastors in the circuit, a few didn't want them coming cause they didn't like them. Well anyway the part time secretary has been talking to the interim pastor and he said after the district got the info from the congregation that the district couldn't come up with any names to send, there's 2 maybe's. (The church is small) He said the guy that went through the Delto program could go through this program through LCMS and become like a Pastor but he couldn't pastor at any other church but this one.

arrr that is so frustrating. Not you. That the pastor doesn't seem to be listening to your desires. He is probably stressed out by having to run two congregations.
Sure the church you are at may need it's members. But it sounds like you are not happy there and you are not getting your needs met.
Well if you decide to go, go to the one in Decatur. If DaRev is recommending it, then he knows the church has a doctrine-sound pastor.

I think it is good the interim pastor is trying to keep people at your old church while they go through this struggle -- it is hard for a new pastor to come in at any time, and then to have less members than told when they were being called? makes their life seem a little worthless i would think (like they arent good enough for some people)....

I know that's true. I just need to be somewhere else. What the congregation wants, they won't be getting a pastor anytime soon. I need to be somewhere where there's spiritual growth, being able to worship and listening to a good sermon. I can't really explain it.

This is true. We are in the call process at Our Saviours in Burien. Our pastor has chosen to retire. He is still serving as the acting pastor, but we are otherwise, technically, without a pastor. So far the call committee has said nothing to either the council or the elders as to what is going on. I suspect that they are trying to be extra cautious as there are several individuals seeking a first call right now and a small congregation like ours (There are maybe three young families, including Hope and I, at our church) may not be what they have in mind for a first call (I will say that I think it would be an appropriate first call for some though, as it may challenge a recent seminary graduate).

I haven't, but I'm willing to get one out of the library and look at it and give you some feedback. The three I can get are:
Get out of that pit : straight talk about God's deliverance
Believing God
To live is Christ : embracing the passion of Paul
Which one should I put on hold?

I can't think of the name of the one they picked. It has to do with dealing with difficult people or something like that.
I went to a women's bible study at the Cullman church last monday, they didn't have it this past monday, the leader was going to be out of town. They just got a bible study book on Obadiah, Micah and Jonah from Concordia. I'll probably stick with this one.

Hi, Rad. Yeah, I'm getting by. The trailer is parked on a friend's place who's kind enough to let me stay there. I hope to get it cleaned up and livable in the next month or so. Don't want to put any cash into it till it's officially mine, though.

Don't want to put any cash into it till it's officially mine, though. You're lucky that you found a "friends pad". Other people out in your area are having a hard time finding anything if they are strapped. My boy and his gfriend in Eugene OR just bought another travel trailer that they live in and the trailer park manager is giving the people a hard time because he wants to upgrade the clientel. So everyone, even if they have been there a long time, is getting flak form the manger to either upgrade the mobiles are he's going to lean on them till they leave.
After Thanksgiving I'm leaving and either going to Wickenburg AZ or CoosBay OR for the winter or....untill the money runs out. Weather is better in AZ but I like the sea better even though it's cooler and windier. Still haven't totally made up my mind yet.
I bought a street legal dunebuggy and trailer to pull behind my RV. Since the RV is underpowered I didn't want to exceed the tow limit and tow a car because of the weight. I don't want to ride a motorcycle any more so that's out.

Ok Revrand, but if you want to discuss this, we need to start another thread. The following is an example only of what has come to my attention:
The following quotations appear in the September/October Fort Wayne student paper, "The Cornerstone. "
"Wherever the bishop appears, there let the congregation be; just as
wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the catholic church."
"For where there is not a bishop preaching and comforting souls, there is no
Church."
However the Augsburg Confession Claims:
"Article VII: Of the Church.
Also they teach that one holy Church is to continue forever. The Church is
the congregation of saints, in which the Gospel is rightly taught and the
Sacraments are rightly administered. "
The Bishop is not the church
Incarnational Ecclesiology: Charitological and Liturgical" and "The Education of a Pastor."
"If all theology is indeed Christology, then it must follow that the same is
true for ecclesiology. How can this not be if the Church is the body of
Jesus Christ, who is Her head (Ephesians 5:23)? Thus, it is confessed that
the Church is incarnational. "
These statements have come out of Fort Wayne. I realize that this is your alma mater, Revrand, and don't wish to offend you. Still, these statements in the student papers are indicating an Eastern Orthodox philosophy comming out of our seminaries.
Scary stuff.
Now, with all due respect, Revrand, if you wish to discuss this further, I'm perfectly willing to start another thread. Your slant on this would be welcome, though a detailed discussion out of place here in the kitchen.
Hey Rad, if you go to Coos Bay, why not head towards the coast via HWY 299 and say hi? George and I are right off the highway at Fawn Lodge.

Concordia St. Louis is my alma mater. I would like to hear DaSem's take on this as that is where he attends currently. It disturbs me as well. Fort Wayne does tend to shy away from congregational polity.

As I've stated before, I'm at Covenant here in Lakewood. Unfortunately, I fear that many of my fellow classmates should never be allowed to be pastors. Many of them seem ignorant of what the Bible really says. I was just recently challenged about the Lord's Prayer (again). This individual tried to tell me that it wasn't in the Bible. I have lost track of how many times I've had that discussion. I tell you the truth, it is always the same results, I show them the passages from Matthew and Luke, they are rendered silent. Why does seem that these other churches not teaching scripture?

Tempting though some of the products are (like the Luther and Katie bobble heads), I will not support a website that supports the idea of female clergy. No offense, but I don't think such a thing should be allowed based upon my limited understanding of scripture.

Okay the Left Behind merchandise I think is making fun of that hugely over-rated theological train wreck known as Left Behind by Jekins and LaHaye. If you look at where they've placed the "Left Behind" logo on those products, doesn't it seem to line up with the left cheek of a person's behind? Total coincidence I'm sure. I'm not too surprised. Too many modern christians have itching ears and want to hear that they won't have to suffer. Sadly, the human condition is such that we enjoy hearing about the suffering of others. Ironically, there is a book that refutes LaHaye/Jenkins. It is called "Survivors (http://www.amazon.com/Survivors-Youll-surprised-gets-behind/dp/9966755004/ref=pd_bbs_7/102-8576436-2510501?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1194886090&sr=8-7)" by a guy calling himself "Zion Ben Jonah" (which he admits is a spin off the name of one of the characters in the Left Behind books). I've read this book, really interesting.

The best lay person's guide to refuting the entire premillennial dispensationalism is the following book. Sadly I loaned out my two copies about 15 years ago and never received them back. While CPH published it first, NPH re-published it, and now no one does. I had the privilege of calling him about 15 years ago and discussing the book, and especially his charts/diagrams. Excellent teaching resource.

Thanks for the links - I have no doubts about creation myself - but I refuse to be drawn into any 'debate' or 'discussion' of the topic in that are in those creation vs evolution threads. The people are just so mean - calling creatrionists out and out liars (and worse), that we have some kind of agenda, and on and on. And they think that if they present enough 'evidence' for evolution, that people who believe in creation should just say - "oh yes, that makes perfect sense - whatever was I thinking!" And if we don't, we are just ignorant. (someone posted a video that just set me off so I have to rant)
While I understand that on the flip side, there are creationists who do much the same thing (although I notice that evolutionists tend to be much more insulting), I know that arguing about it will not convince anyone of anything. I'm not going to convince an evolutionist that God created the world by presenting any kind of evidence. Only the Word of God can change their hearts.
Just venting - thanks for listening :)

Yes, sadly, one has to keep in mind that Evoloutionism has become another religion. If one approaches the issue from that standpoint, there is a better, more flexible, stance to take. Though one has to keep in mind that the conversation is often with a fanatic who's mind is completely closed to the truth. I usually keep pounding them with the question, "Exactly what proof does science provide for Macro-Evolution?" Keep at it and one can finally get them to the point where there appear the missing links, or guesses. That's where they really begin spinning.

LOL. You are such a wise guy. Still, you are a great guy. Good one. Oh, in case you missed it (was it another thread?), I ordered those books via amazon.com and should have them soon.

Is that part of the "No Behind Left Behind Act"?I read most of the left behind series for entertainment purposes. Started to get draggy after about 6 volumes. It's was a story. Just a story. Not really that engaging after awhile.

I think I started to burn out around book four. I read five and six more for the sake of morbid curiousity. I haven't read beyond six yet. Don't know that I will.

I really enjoyed the Left Behind series for the first three books. However, on the third book they started re-hashing so much of the story that by the next volume it was half catch-up. I felt gyped. Each volume got worse and went downhill from there. Often I hoped that Reader's Digest would get ahold of the series and condense all nine or ten books into three easily read volumes. A prime case where the publisher and authors could be accused of milking a good story to death.:sigh:

I never could get into the Left Behind stories (however I DO want the left behind gear at Old Lutheran...) because I just couldn't suspend my disbelief...or my beliefs...that much.
However, if you haven't read them yet, Paul Meier's Skeleton books are excellent.
A Skeleton in God's Closet (http://wilddogsbookreviews.blogspot.com/)
More than a Skeleton (http://www.amazon.com/More-Than-Skeleton-Against-World/dp/1595540032/ref=sr_1_7/002-3189192-5069658?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1194932836&sr=1-7)
More than a Skeleton is Maier's response to the Left Behind books and pretty much kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put it down.

The book "Survivors" which I just bought via amazon.com is also a rebuttal of Left Behind. Its author even goes so far as to say that all of the Left Behind novels can be condensed into a single paperback and that LaHaye & Jenkins need to get the "L" out of the name of thier "god". I think it will be interesting to finally read it completely through. Couldn't do so when I borrowed it from my father-in-law, returned before I could finish (what was I thinking?)
