View Full Version : What questions would you ask God?

Do you have any pet questions that you would ask of God, if you were able to sustain a straightforward two-way conversation with him?
I would ask if he ever reflects upon his own existence in the same way that I do. For example, does God know why he is here? Has he ever wondered about it?
Does God understand where the rules of logic came from? It is not so easy to say that he created them all, as that might require at least one law - the law of cause and effect - to be present already.
I've said all this stuff to God before, but I don't suppose I'll get an answer during my lifetime. However, I did read something along those lines in the Bible today.
Isaiah 44:8:
"...You are my witnesses. Is there any other God besides me?
No, there is no other rock; I know not one."
God seems to draw from his own understanding of all that is real, to say that he is not aware of the existence of any other entity like himself.
It is strangely comforting to find that God may reflect upon his own ontological knowledge, in the same way that I do in the small scale.
What questions would you ask God?

Sometimes simply "why" ......

Heh, exactly. Before I ever read this response, I thought that "Why?" would be my question.
Why?

Would ask Him how He manages to love us so much despite our failings and sin and mistreatment of Him.
Would ask Him how He spends His time, day to day.
Also, if He likes rainbows as much as I do.
Also, if Adam and Eve is literal as in, take it at face value, or whether "days" represented many millennia.

Hmm...I would ask Him how it is that He could love me so much.
And how does the trinity really work?
How He was able to build all the mansions in heaven.
What does He want me to do now, besides adore Him and worship at His feet.

I would ask us why He created us knowing we were going to fall and He would have to redeem us. I would ask Him why create us knowing that some would burn for eternity for rejecting Him.

I would ask Him if He ever gets the urge to just wash His hands of me. Why does He keep holding on? Especially when there are times when I definitely let go of Him.

I'd like to know that too.
I read the Christian apologist Dave Hunt answering that one. He said that from God's POV it wouldn't be acceptable not to create us knowing that some would end up in Hell, because that would also deprive millions of others the chance to believe in him and enjoy a future eternity in Heaven.

I think it would also take away one key feature that God gave us all so that we can be in God's image and that is Free Will to be able to choose to live or die.

But, why create us at all if even one single person goes to Hell?

LisaBless your heart Lisa but God does not create us with the plan that we will go to Hell Lisa we choose Hell for ourselves and in that there is a difference. God wishes for all mankind to be saved that is why He sent His Son.
But as I said in order to fully created in God's image then we also had to be created with Free Will to choose

I understand that, but God knew in the beginning that some were going to choose to not accept Him of their own freewill. Wouldn't it have been better if they had never been created at all?

You mean take away Free Will and therefore we run around like a bunch of robots I don't think that is what God wanted either do you?

No. This is a common athiest question, and even though I take it on faith, it is something that I have always wondered myself.
In the beginning, before Creation, God determined that He would create everything. He knew all of us before the foundation of the world, right?
So, God knew even when Adam and Eve were still unfallen, that they were going to fail the test. Before He even created Adam and Eve, long before they fail, God formed the plan of salvation, true?
But, God created us anyway knowing man would fall, knowing they would need a redeemer and knowing that many would not be redeemed. He essentially has known from the beginning that there would be those who would be born, die, and go to hell.
Yes, based on freewill, but that does not preclude the fact that God had foreknowledge of whom would be saved and whom would not be saved.
So, why create us at all?
In the deepest, darkest part of my mind, I have often wondered if all of this (the creation of man, the fall of man, and the plan of salvation) is connected with the War in Heaven between God and Satan.
Did our creation have something to do with proving something?
The story of Job intrigues me because it appears as nothing except a great chess game between God and Satan.

Yes, based on freewill, but that does not preclude the fact that God had foreknowledge of whom would be saved and whom would not be saved.Yes God has foreknowledge but when we are created we are created with the same choice to make and God does not interfere in that decision. He does not predestine us one way or another even though he knows the outcome.

Exactly. By faith, I know there is a reason and it is "something that must be done", but since y'all asked what my "Why?" question would be, this is it.

I guess my question would be why wouldn't he make himself known to everyone so they would believe. I know the ultimate answer is faith...but it's one of those "why" questions for me.
And the other silly question would be why do men age gracefully and women don't...;)
