View Full Version : Consensus

I had an idea tonight, and would love opinions on it.
Due to the nature of the ET forums, getting a consensus is hard. For instance, there are some forums with only 1-2 mods, making consensus hard if one of the other mods is offline for any significant amount of time.
Right now, I have a couple reports that need additional voices. They seem to be very obvious flamings, but I can't act on them without more input. However, there are other ET mods online, but because they are not mods in that particular forum, they can't add their voice.
Can a system be established so that ET mods can voice opinions to help reach a consensus faster? It seems like such a shame to have ET mods available, but unable to really help each other.
Just a rambling thought. There may not be any way to do this. But maybe something can be worked out.

Thank you for bringing this up, F&L! I had similar thoughts and concerns just haven't had the time yet to put them on paper.
Some members at times ask - how many mods are enough for a forum? I'd say the more the better!
Also, maybe for fora which have only 2 or 3 moderators, maybe at least smods and admins of the ET team would be allowed to help out in reports of those fora if they are asked?

It's our hope and desire to at least double the number of mods we have here and even more if possible.
Prior to 777, ET had an active, seasoned staff of 40+ (not including Admins). At present it is just 30 and we have extra sub-forums as well. Also many of the staff are still unseasoned (but getting there quickly) which complicates things somewhat. We need the mods appointed to be able to make more Smods as some are covering 4 or even 6 forums at present and acting in them as mods, not supervisors. This is clearly asking a bit much of any individual.
So we need more staff, folks. We need to be recruiting and getting more on board to take up the slack of absences, illness, departures and arrivals. Never mind about the New Year Elections, we need them now!!

All of the higher ups have been wonderful about helping out. :)
I just think that it's a shame to have so many members of ET online at any given time, but because they are designated as CC or OBOB or SFPC, they can't help reports get worked faster.
Like I said, there may not be a solution to this. But it makes me a little envious of other teams having so many voices to work reports.

I'm happy to help out if needed - being in Australia puts me awake when most others are getting their beauty sleep...

Hmmm ... I just saw a report where only two staff members of a forum which has 6 staff members decided on an action (post deletion).
Is that also possible in other congregational fora, to come to a decision with only two staffers of a forum agreeing and without discussion?
Oh, the report in question is here:

Another one from OBOB where a report is being decided on by not three but just ONE MOD!!!
Not according to regulations of the ET team?

every forum is entitled to their own protocol that suits them as long as the membership is fine with it:wave:
I like the idea of posting in Jim's thread, then we can come if we see you need help , plus if you have a team protocol on working reports in your own forum and write in there the need to bring in outside help to make a consensus that would be fine to implement as well , just make sure your staff and members welcome it .... dont say "Tishri told me too":P^_^:hug::hug::hug:

There are occasions when action can be taken without waiting for input. For instance, only last night (actually about 5am!) there was a member rampaging in SF with really dreadful flames. He is known to us and has been banned but though I was pretty certain it was yet another of his numerous socks, the IP check didn't give us the proof necessary. So, we had to wait until he got intoxicated again and his veneer of geniality broke down. But when that happened, there was no-one but me 'on duty' so I just had to go and delete all his posts. And Admins aren't even supposed to take mod actions!
Though the instances are more the exception than the rule they do happen and experienced mods know when and where it can be done. The point to remember is that these are guidelines rather than rules, ie., they're not cast in tablets of stone!
