View Full Version : When do you feel closest to God?

During prayer? Or when spending time in the word, or during worship? Or does it not ebb and flow for you?

For me it's during worship. Am never more consciously aware of the Holy Spirit than during worship :)

Worship has always done it for me. And because Catholics don't do a lot of Praise & Worship at Mass ;) It is usually in the car. When I'm alone in my car, I talk out loud with God and sing to Him.

Another good thread...

For me, I feel closest to God when meditating on His word, usually after some serious study. I also feel closest to Him after victories over some struggle I may have had. You mentioned worship - I feel most worshipful after such victories.

There are nights here in Arizona when the sunsets are so amazing that you almost can't breathe for fear it will change it in that moment. They are always a reminder for me that God is all around us. I feel very close to Him then, as well.

With no exaggeration... every waking moment. I'm so very blessed.

Lately I feel closest to Him when I look around at the beauty that is His creation. It's almost fall now and I'm amazed at the colours of the trees and how regular it all is. No matter what is going on in this world, the seasons still keep happening. To me it is as if the Lord is saying...I'm in control. And it brings me peace and I am very grateful.

Lately I feel closest to Him when I am in so much pain I can't stand it and I call out to Him and I may not feel my pain ebb but I do feel an overwhelming sense of calm come over me that tells me I can get through it all. It tells me not to doubt when I have fallen victim to doubts. Sometimes it is even as though I can feel a reassuring hand being pressed into my shoulder that instantly sends a message of calm and of no more resistance to me.

Somehow I just know that all I am going through now will soon come to fruition for me and the reason why will become abundantly clear. That somehow I am being used by God for a specific purpose and that gives me such resolve to gather my strength through the pain.

I have really felt closest to Him
For nearly three years
When I turned 30
I became a Christian at 19 after
Feeling like I haven't been one for real
After two tries, the third time was for real
Sometimes, you get older with age.

When I'm acting like a stupid christian...:) It's those times when I know God is watching out for me and truly cares about getting me back on track. Another time I feel close to Him is when I'm with a group of believers. His presence is over whelming.

I see Him most clearly when I see the suffering. The starving, the homeless, the naked, those ravaged by war, famine and disease.

And then I become ashamed because I cannot bring myself to look at them (and Him) longer.

I don't recall the last time I felt "close" to Him.

When I realise that God has given me a task to do, for example when someone starts to talk to me about my faith and I get the feeling that God has arranged for that conversation to take place.

I feel closer to God through face-to-face fellowship than through fellowship on the forum, and I suspect that Jesus is present in a special way when Christians are actually gathered together in one place, that does not really occur when we make contact over the internet.

Disagree if you want, it's just the impression I've gotten so far.

That's good - I was about to post something similar.

I feel close to Him when I know I am doing His will. I feel particularly close to Him when I am helping, serving, teaching, or otherwise loving those who are His. Direct fellowship is definitely one way I feel His closeness.

You make a good point re "virtual fellowship," that it is not the same as actually "being there." True. Still, I think there are also opportunities in this venue and format to do His will, albeit different ones.

When I'm hiking alone in the mountains.

Also, giving birth or being with someone who is giving birth.
