What do you guys make of this scripture?
1Co 4:6 (http://bible.crosswalk.com/OnlineStudyBible/bible.cgi?word=1co+4:6&version=kjv&st=1&sd=1&new=1&showtools=1)
And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.

When Paul wrote this, some people in the Corinthian church were boasting that they were more godly, better Christians etc. I think Paul was reminding them here to put others above themselves, reminding themselves of how he and Apollos had behaved when in Corinth.
He goes on to say (V18)
18 Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you. 19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord wills, and I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power.
So, they are boasting as though their salvation were something they had achieved, rather than recieved.

Hello Scapeg0at,
I am not sure why you have bolded and colored the name Apollos. If you are under the misconception that somehow Paul was referring to a Pagan god, then you are badly mistaken... Forgive me if I am missing the point of your post. If you would explain what about this particular verse you are wondering about perhaps I could better answer your question...
Apollos was a man whom stayed with Priscilla and Aquila and learned about the Christian faith so as to better be able to preach the gospel. Here is some information about Paul, Priscilla, Aquila, and Apollos...
The following is taken from a Bible Study on this webpage:

Priscilla and Aquila
by Wayne Blank
Priscilla and Aquila were a married couple from Italy who found themselves in Corinth (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/corinth.htm) after all Jews were expelled from Rome (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/rome.htm) by the emperor Claudius (see New Testament Roman Emperors (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/ntromemp.htm)). There they became prominent Christians and close friends with the apostle Paul who they met during his travels through the area (see Paul's First Missionary Journey (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/paulfirs.htm), Paul's Second Missionary Journey (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/paulsec.htm) and Paul's Third Missionary Journey (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/paulthir.htm)).

Tentmakers With Paul
"After this he left Athens [see Paul In Athens (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/paulathn.htm)] and went to Corinth. And he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, lately come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to leave Rome. And he went to see them; and because he was of the same trade he stayed with them, and they worked, for by trade they were tentmakers." (Acts 18:1-3 RSV)
Traveled With Paul To Ephesus
"After this Paul stayed many days longer, and then took leave of the brethren and sailed for Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila. At Cenchreae he cut his hair, for he had a vow. And they came to Ephesus (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/ephesus.htm), and he left them there; but he himself went into the synagogue and argued with the Jews." (Acts 18:18-19 RSV)
Taught Apollos
"Now a Jew named Apollos (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2000/20000202.htm), a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, well versed in the Scriptures. He had been instructed in The Way (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/theway.htm) of The Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John [see Baptism (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/baptism.htm) and John The Baptist (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/johnbapt.htm)]. He began to speak boldly in the synagogue; but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him and expounded to him the way of God more accurately. And when he wished to cross to Achaia, the brethren encouraged him, and wrote to the disciples to receive him. When he arrived, he greatly helped those who through Grace (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/grace.htm) had believed, for he powerfully confuted the Jews in public, showing by the Scriptures that the Christ was Jesus." (Acts 18:24-28 RSV)
Risked Their Lives For The Gospel "Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus [see Jesus Christ (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/christ.htm), The Logos (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/logos.htm) and The Messiah (http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/messiah.htm)], who risked their necks for my life, to whom not only I but also all the churches of the Gentiles give thanks." (Romans 16:3 RSV)

Good observation Tangeloper. I would be interested in knowing why he purposefully
pronounced Apollos with color and bold myself....

Sorry if we're a little touchy scapeg0at. It's just that we have a lot of people coming in here of late trying to stir up trouble. I hope you understand and aren't offended by my questioning your intention in this way...
