Did you know that fear and praise can not be done at the same time? They are located at the same part of the brain, so the brain has to choose either praise or fear.
1John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

There are times I praise G-d and it is only praise, but usually during those times, I'm not very conscious of His presence, not very conscious of who He is.
In scripture, when people believe they are come into the presence of HaShem, the first thing that happen is they fall flat on their faces. This is something a little different than joy. This is a good, healthy fear of the Lord.
There are times when I do have an inkling of the presene of G-d. My joy doesn't go away. But at those times, I remember all to well that this is not some pie in the sky G-d, not some santa, not some buddy buddy, not some "Jesus, let the traffic light change quickly so I can get to work on time." As Pascal said, not the G-d of the Philosophers, but the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, a FIRE. And I tremble inside.
