I would like to discuss the pros and cons of forming unofficial teams of members to help promote peace within CCC forums. These members would be tapped by staff when their special gifts became apparant and would be asked to simply look for opportunities to defuse potential problems before they become reports.

For example, I had one member who handled a special case in a beautiful way. She did this on her own and it just got me to thinking.

Let me know what you think of this idea. I have had members who have often said that they do not want to be on staff, but they would like to help in some unofficial way.

I don't like the idea, because if people are doing that sort of thing, anyway, we should just allow them to. I don't want to have to "enlist" people.

CC feels a little like an army camp at the moment. We all just want to settle the rules so we can get on with fellowshipping and discussing. Honestly, enough new stuff.

But as mods, we help keep the peace and enforce rules in reports... I don't think it's up to us to decide who to "tap". Basically, I don't think it's our place to appoint people unofficially to do what they'd do, anyway. Because we don't know anything more than all the other members, and "tapping" people implies we have some sort of authority, and we really don't. Plus, take Criada for example, she is a very special woman with more love in her than anyone I've ever met, so she'll be a peace-keeper, regardless. Putting her on some unofficial team doesn't make sense to me. I can't see it would do anything but foster an artifical hierarchy. Ya know?

Greenie has made some excellant points above, but there are other things that would have to be worked out as well.

For one I don't think it is right that staff should elect so to speak or recruit help that is not approved by the members themselves. This would also not follow protocal set up by Erwin, nit saying it couldn't be done, but first we should have the members approval and then work out all the requirements to do so.

Another thing to remember is that they are not officialy staff, so how do we make them accountable to us, and should there be problems how do we handle them? How do we disipline them if they go off on their own and don't follow our directions and many other things like that?

If this is to be done at all, then all those things need to be figured out and answered. First we need to start with Tishri's and see where she is with this idea, and run it by the rest of staff and all supermods as well.

I agree with Greenie and Jim. I think it is great that members are stepping up as peacemakers. Some are gifted in that area. I don't think we should try to control that spirit, though, because IMO, while good intentioned, it might cause more harm than god.

I agree. I think it may be better just to allow people to do what they would normally do and support them in their efforts as much as we can, rather than giving them an official title and setting them up on a different level than the regular members. Jim is right about the accountability questions if there are problems.

Continue to praise members when you see them doing something Christ-like for someone else :) Perhaps it will become the next trend or something. ;)
