I watched this last night on ESPN. Have you seen it? It is about the 1972 Summer Olympics held in Munich Germany where Palestinian Terrorists took s the whole Israeli team, both athletes and coaches hostage, and murdered them. It happened on Sept 5th so yesterday was the 35th anniversary.

Supposedly they did everything they could to erase the memory of what happened the last time they hosted, in 1936 under Hitler, but from what I've seen of this footage and heard of their bumbling, they sure didn't do enough. It sickens me the way this was handled.

I watched much of it 6 months ago. I'm glad it was on ESPN - it's usually buried on TBN.

I saw Munich.

I think West Germany did a considerably good job *considering* what was known at the time.

Between Black September and the RAF (Red Army Faction) not much was known at the time, and terror intelligence was shared on a 'need to know' basis.

My dad went into the military in 1978 and said only now does it look like governments are more or less co-operating together and sharing information, wheras before it was several intel groups, and worry more about the cold war and what was going on in the ME, than terrorist attacks being possible or happening in the EU (Other than Sinn Fein and a few other groups) and USA.

When this happened, it really opened people's eyes.

I posted yesterday and today what has been going on this week in Germany. More terrorism on the way... and three people nabbed, 10 more being sought. Attacks were being coordinated with the terrorist attacks of Sept 5th, 7th, 11th and the attacks of October..

Germany has had a lot to overcome between what happened in WWI and WWII, the stigma attached to it, and moving past and making improvements.

My area was one hit the hardest, as the Jewish community in this area goes back 1,000 years, and Rashi taught in Worms... all the castles in this area have signs of "us" being here.

This is where my family came from and left... and somehow I am making an about face being here with my DH and his family. It is weird and really cool at the same time.

Being an American and Messianic, that gives me a few things I really have to watch my back about, and trust me I have trouble being comfortable in the bigger cities of our area with a predominent Arab and Turkish presence... because I see and know the looks I get. I'm nice to everyone regardless, but trust to me, is something one must earn... regardless of the ethnicity of the one I meet.

I don't think Germany did 100% right in everything that happened, but I think that the Intel agencies of the USA were holding them back a little as well... just from the information I have been able to gather... just like this week we were major 'helpers' in getting this nipped in the bud (what is going on currently). Our bases were threatened as were other locales and we shared the information and assisted this time around.... rather than hoarding 'speculation' and not sharing.

I think Mossad did a bang-up job with everything they did in regards to the attacks in Munich...

But remember, Bavaria, though part of Germany, has special rights as it was once it's own country (so to speak) and is now a 'freistadt' - an Independent Stadt of all the Bundestadts.... They have their own Parliament, Prime minister for the Stadt as well as 'county seats', and representation in the current Bundestag. I think that also had some play in everything.

(see more here on that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bavaria#Bavarian_.22citizenship.22 )
