Since people are starting to post photos of themselves in the CF Character thread, I thought I'd start a new thread dedicated to that! So, here goes. I'll start it off...

Well, there's a resemblance there for sure. Mine looks nothing like me, but I wish I could grow out my beard and stache like that. I can't get past that whole scraggly beard stage, where it's a whole mess of nothing. :P

I have thought about it, and I really enjoy it! My grandmother taught (and is still teaching) me how to dressmake, and I muddle my way through new patterns, try to recreate garments from ones I already have, etc...It's so much fun.
I would like to get a certificate in it one day, so that I have my qualifications, and if I'm well enough then yes I'd love to do it professionally. There's just not as big a market for things that I like wearing (and making) as I would like.

The hours would be awesome! Get up and go to bed when I feel like it, work from my living room, take a break or eat whenever I feel like it - sounds like my kind of job :P
Maybe. I'll see, I'll keep making clothes for myself anyway. And for my kids...goodness knows if fashions stay current for kids clothes I'm definitely making my daughters' clothes! Yikes!

As you have more experience and gain more confidence in your abilities ... maybe even for a few boutiques ?
As for children's clothes -- ends of good quality fabric are inexpensive.
I used to make my kids clothes (not all of their clothes) with these inexpensive ends ... neat "funky pants" for wee guys. :)

I know of a place where I get printed calico (like what I made that dress out of) about 3 yards wide, about US$3.50 a metre (just over a yard)... all different colours. That place is my favourite to get fabric from!
I have 3m of absolutely incredible black wool with a variegated autumn coloured thread design on it, and I'm trying to get the courage up to make myself something from it! Originally I planned a dress, but I'm tempted to make it a coat or something.
It cost me about $15US a metre...so I better be careful with it!

Here's a picture of me from about a year or two ago. Perhaps this will give some insight as to why I have such weird outfits for my CF character. I have tons more pictures on my other computer, but I have to replace the power supply. Every so often I decide to put on a weird outfit, or shave my head, or grow a beard or moustache, or shave off a beard or moustache, and when I do, I take tons of pictures. I know that at 30 years old I shouldn't find myself so entertaining, but I still do. And I figure when I'm 90 and I show people pictures of myself, it will look like I did so much in my life just based on all the completely different looks I've had. Or not....

I don't post picture either for safety reasons. I'd had horrible experiences with that in the past.. never again.

I think I look alike ... let me see... some people used to say I look like Linda Gray the "Sue-Elen" in Dallas...lol... especially her short haircut. It is hard to tell though as I never thought I ever looked like one of them actresses...I find it sort of strange to think of people as "look-a-likes" you get an immediate different or distorted perspective of who they trully are inside.
No offense to anyone though who likes that idea...

Ahh, the Amish method of growing a beard... Shave until marriage then don't shave after. Speaking of which, last time I let my full beard grow out to a decent length everyone kept saying I looked Amish (it didn't help that we were in a heavily Amish populated place and most people w/ beards were the Amish).

Dark skin beautifies particularly well after a chrismation in the Orthodox Church, I've heard. It's a miracle exclusive of the Orthodox Church...like the holy fire.

Oh, I'm so sorry, DNL. You disqualify. Aesthetics has a profound theological role to play in Orthodoxy, yet while we enjoy our food, it is deemed offensively inappropriate to make anything relating to the culinary arts a condition for conversion. I was so hoping you would join us... Now all bets are off...

Although I do not like to post pics of myself.... I do not think it is a good idea on the net.
Someone once mentioned to me the fact that we don't walk around offline with bags over our heads. We even hand perfect strangers our credit cards with our first name and surname. In college, they required our checks to have had our SSN on it. Why would you live your online life as if there was something to fear if you don't do it offline? Also, as long as you are not releasing surnames or any other identifying information, how would anyone be able to locate you based on a picture?

How shall I put this? My godmother, as an Orthodox, married a muslim, the dude never became Orthodox. She was considered to be in a "not good standing" with the church because what she did was not allowed. So as far as I know, an Ortho-dude would not marry you unless you are also a good standing Orthodox. Someone might chime in with the details and "why"s...

I believe that all of the jursidictions allow for marriage to a non-Orthodox, but Christian, spouse. However, those who are serious about their faith will no doubt want an Orthodox Spouse for a number of reasons. The most obvious is just because it is easier. You can attend church together, pray together, raise children in the same faith together and there is no source for conflict in regards to religion. However, more important than this is the reality that a husband and wife and their children are a small church together. A married couple works out their salvation with each other, and through each other. If they can't agree on basic and fundamental issues, it makes it that much more difficult to support each other to grow into God's kingdom. And I would imagine that a good non-Orthodox Christian would want someone who would likewise support them in their faith. So a non-Orthodox to Orthodox Marriage is most likely going to between nominal Christians on both sides. My parents, on the other hand, were both very devout (Dad-Orthodox and Mom-Presbyterian) and their marriage ended in large part because of religious matters. That in turn had a very polarizing effect on me and my siblings with regards to religion.

On the contrary I know of marriages with heterodox that are very happy and succesful. In my experiences I also have seen many orthodox to orthodox marriages ending unsuccesfully ... too. It is sad but let us not make generalizations that divide and missinform than unite and give the bigger picture of interfaith marriages. The chances are fifty fifty either way, IMO anyways.

BTW marrying a muslim is like marrying a non-christian and it is a different story. In our Church one member has to be Orthodox and the other party has to be Christian (baptized in an Church that states their belief in Trinity) in order for the couple to be married in the Orthodox Church. They do not have to be both Orthodox. Just a claryfication.

Philothei

if you decide to become Orthodox yes you can be baptized. You will have to contact an Orthodox priest in your area and start the process of catechumanate depending on your Spiritual guide it can take months to a year or more.
You can start by attending services also at your local Orthodox parishe(s).

points out some things about the movie that you may not have thought about. The film is deep in the ways the review describes - depths/layers that previous versions of Peter Pan never portrayed. Which is why I, too, really like it.

Actually, (I read the review, just now) And much of what was discussed, I had thought of, thus, in agreement with you, my sheer love of this particular version. I particularly like Tinkerbell's jealous role and how she viciously attacks Wendy by banging her head and telling the Lost boys to shoot down the Wendy Bird....in desperate, raw insane jealousy. Yet she too, turns around....it is an emotion filled movie for sure. I also liked the symbolism of the kiss....when her aunt speaks of her Mother's kiss, that Wendy too, owns one....and the sheer shock and joy on everyones faces.

Or not....

But yes, this is my baby.

That's me in Class B standing next to a car I payed $5 for a ticket in a raffle (they said that I'd have better chances winning the Lotto! ^_^)
Now, did you go get a blessing for that ticket? ;)
Nice to finally see you!

Wonderful pics, people!
Do y'all have your photos on some kind of webhosting? (ie, you're not just uploading them from your computers, are you?)

You upload your pics there, then you just click to copy the link and insert it in your post on here and voila!

Normally I post my pictures that I'm going to be using on message boards to Flickr, but the one I sent to this thread I did just attach to my message directly from my computer. Flickr is my prefered method though.

Photobucket is a great suggestion, but the king of hosting is ripway.com. They give you 30 megabytes of storage absolutely free.

Beautiful pictures, everyone.
Here's my three dancing daughters. A normal person would have deleted this blurry pic but I liked it. It has a ghostly, otherworldly quality.

Didn't go through.
Your voice so goes with your face. This is the first time in my life that a picture of someone looked exactly what I had pictured the person looking like! Incredible!

haha, that's weird man... I've heard myself recorded before, didn't really like it. But at least I won't surprise anyone.... so for the TAW members that won't get the chance to talk to me, just imagine what I look like I would sound like..... and you're right.
btw, I fixed the Bush victory thumbs..... its epic.

Wow, this is such a great thread. I gotta add some pics too.
I do not have enough rep to add pics or a real link so let me see if there is something I can do to make this work.

I remeber when we used to have the photo gallery up in the stickies.
So here is the most recent picture I could find. I'm soaked on the Maid of the Mist Boat ride in Niagara Falls back in August.
