I was thinking about Yom Kippur and wanted to ask, what do you do if you work in the medical profession? You cant take the day off can you? So how do you marry that up with the commandment not to work?

Also I've heard a few times that people say "Next year in Jerusalem". If people believe that why dont they move to Jerusalem? I'm not trying to offend by asking this question I am genuinely interested in the answer, or does it refer to the return of the Messiah?

"next year in Jerusalem" Is the expectation of the Coming of Messiah... as well as a hope that you will be brought there when he comes :)

Some (Very few) can actually afford to go to Jerusalem for the feasts from around the world. Takes a lot of planning, $$$ and reservations a year or more in advance!

I know there are folks in Israel who do work, as it is a good thing to 'do good on the Sabbath' - payment is deferred for that day and given in another way from what I heard from friends who have friends over there.

Some folks don't work or rotate out holidays. Same with the military and police.

You pray as you have time and do the best ya can.
Sick and dying people don't wait until the next day to be sick and dying ;)

Hope that helps a little
