View Full Version : Seriously thinking of starting a fellowship

I just moved across country, and can't find the type of fellowship with which I am comfortable. Not so much being picky as a dearth of believers. The Northwest, especially WA state, is the most un-churched population in the US. Add to that the fact that I have moved to an island........ well. Now this island has churches. And it is connected tot he Olympic peninsula by a bridge. And the bus system is great. But I have no car and the buses I would need don't run on the weekend.
I had thought there was a Foursquare church here, a couple of blocks from my apartment, as well as a full-gospel one in a school. Being charismatic, this was good. In fact, I like Foursquare a lot. But they have both moved off-island. But neglected to update their websites.
If I don't get together with other believers of my persuasion soon, I think I may explode. Thinking of tacking up little notices on the three community bulletin board locations, as well as my apartment building. Please pray.:prayer:

Well, I've been spared the hassle! Not only did God have a dear spirit-filled sister already here in my building, but we are going to church. It's not charismatic (my preference) but the music is contemporary and they are so close to being charismatic, I don't think a church could get any closer to the river without falling in! It's a CMA (Christian and Missionary Alliance).
The pastor and his wife are mature (have 3 grown children) and are from New Zealand. So we hear the word preached with a funny accent. He has a real heart for the presence of God.
I am doubly blessed, having a prayer and fellowship partner living on the same floor in my apartment bldg, and not only a church, but people who will pick us up - we neither one have a car. God is good. And I didn't explode.

I know people in Washington State, and they are all Catholics. :)

I have always wondered about the extent of fellowship in the Northwest regions of our country. I have always wanted to spend my final days (I'm only 56) living in the Northwest.
When I was in my early twenties, I backpacked and hitch-hiked from Dallas, Texas to Boise, Idaho by way of the coastal highway in California. I was a poor, ex-navy man with a love for traveling. It was permissable in the early seventies to hitch-hike, not anymore.
I loved Oregon very much and wondered about employment and just how sensible it would be to live in such seclusion. I jumped a fence one evening and built a fire, ate a can of corn and fell asleep.
When I woke up the next morning I was surrounded by long horned steers. They were smelling me and now that I look back, they treated me very nicely. They were just curious. I did grab my stuff and jump back to the street side of the fence though.
Churches in that area were not to be seen. People in that area were rare.
Oh how I loved the country !!!!!!!!!!!! The beauty is breathtaking and obviously designed for the rich. I miss the challenge of doing such things again.

Libre, it is good to read that you have found a group of believers with whom you can share the things of God. Personally, I think we often need to be around others of the faith, to gain, perhaps, those things you see in the pastor. There are some marvelous fruits in believers who don't see everything our way.
A good example in my life is my chaplain friend, Bob, that I've known for twenty years. He is Reformed Presbyterian and I am a kind of mongrel, with a bit of Lutheran, Methodist, Salvation Army, home church, Pentecostal, Assembly of God, and Charismatic in me. Some of the kindest, most giving believers I've known are Catholics. Truly, the Lord abides in the hearts of those who call upon His name.
Remember David's words: "I am a companion of all them that fear thee." We ought also to be one.
