View Full Version : Should Staff Recuse themselves from the Rule Making Process?

Hey you guys! There have been some comments regarding staff participation in making rules here in CCC. It is a legitimate concern and I am thinking that it might be a good idea to talk about it.

If membership thinks that mods should stay out of the rule making process, I will abide by that. People may have a point about that.

It is true that I am a member as much as I am a mod, but do you think that it appears that I am participating too much in the formationg and development?

Does staff have undue influence simply because they are staff?

I am not making this a poll (yet ;) ) I am just hoping for very honest discussion about this. Please state how you feel and please know that I am sincerely wanting to understand your concerns. So, don't worry about hurt feelings or anything like this. Be very straightforward with me, please.

I don't see why you all should get out of rule-making! :P

Seriously, rules are mods' bread and butter. I think that you being the experts are best qualified to work on rules. I as a rule breaker am not qualified to do more than comment on what you come up with! :P

Well, I can see the other side too.

It is kind of like the separation of powers in the US government. The Congress (Members) makes the laws. The President (Erwin) has veto power, and The Supreme Court (staff) interprets and enforces the laws.

Here is another reason for my asking this question...

No, staff are still members :) No-one should feel they don't have an equal say in everything

No, we need the staff input. And quite honestly, if you, GM and Hentenza are not able to have input we'll all be in a pickle. :o

I would hope that all staff of CC believe in collaboration as a means to arrive at new rules and/or enforcing the current ones. Mods that are members of this forum should work side by side with members to ensure that rules are fair and enforceable.

No! Most of the people who do have input are staff, or almost-staff!
We need everyone's view.

Hi, I don't know if one needs to be a member of this forum to post in this forum, but as to the post question; staff are members and can not be barred from the process of wiki here on foru.ms

No, I understand that. I was trying to get the membership input here to find out what the opinion on this was. There may not be a rule that will bar staff, but a staff member could recuse herself voluntarily if she felt that was what her forum preferred.

I am here to serve not to create my own little kingdom, you know?

hehe, I never know who's on what team, I just reply when I see stuff.lol.. Didn't realize you were on this team.

Sure, anyone can decide not to participate in any wiki, so of course.

God bless,

I completely agree with what you've said here ContentInHim. If anything they should have a definite say on the rules because they will be the ones expected to implement them, and they can lend very good information about whether a rule can work or not -- in practical application matters, especially!

I value the thoughts and opinions of the staff. You all weren't mods overnight and were members (still are) before you joined the staff. You have input from a member point of view as well as the "behind the scenes" point of views of something you see as a plus or a negative.

Since this area is where you come to fellowship, I think your expressed views should be welcome...:)
