Maybe this is already here and I missed it somewhere - wouldn't be the first time! But I just saw this in CR and thought it a masterful piece of policy working. I think it should be included in the Wiki. What do you all think?

Moderator Action Triggers

Unanimity: If three moderators review a report and agree on an action (below), and there are no dissenting opinions from other moderators, the third moderator should do the action.

Consensus: If there are dissenting opinions, there should be at least four opinions, and there needs to be two more of one opinion than the others to form a consensus before action can be taken. For instance, if there are four mod opinions it needs to be 3:1 to act. Five moderators would need 4:1 (3:2 would not be enough for consensus).

Senior staff determination: If consensus cannot be found by this method, a supermod or Team Leader can make a final determination among options. This option, however, is a last resort. Ideally, the team will continue discussing until consensus is found.

Timeline: Reports can be actioned for two weeks from the time of report. If consensus cannot be found in that time, chances are that the alleged violation is not grievous enough to action, and should be deemed NV and closed.

I think they look good.

I agree we need something but in my opinion that is too wordy and too complicated. Something more simple would be better. I also don't think we should need 3 mods to make a consensus, this is the main reason why so many reports never get done in the first place. Some forums don't even have 3 mods.

What I propose is if 2 mods agree then the 2nd mod will take action.

If supermod or admin gives input on a difficult report then the rest of the team follows that input.

Good point about some teams not having three mods - some only have one!!

However, I could have sworn there was a comment about including member opinions as well. Must got back and see where that was.

I personally think that, if the forum does have more than 3 mods, that at least 3 should agree (and should be a majority). Otherwise, a simple majority would work. Reduces the complexity, IMO.

It sounds good to me, I think as these things are practiced - they'll become second hand and very easy to use.

Idealy that would be nice, but with the shortages we have and the fact that not everyone is there everyday makes that impossible. Therefore a simple majority is more realisitic.

I think we also have to realize that good mods will be seeking someone else to give an opinion of it is really thyat questionable and important.
