I'm sorry, but this is worth making a thread over. I have just traveled 60 miles straight on my bike. It is worth mentioning that this bike's front break rubbed against the tire making it harder to peddle, both tires were warped in shape, the breaks hardly worked anyway. I traveled on a railroad track that got torn up and a bike path got put in it's place. I took that for about 16 miles, when I realized that I was near school. I headed over and took a break. 20 miles thus far. I then traveled over to my church where I found my old high school bible study. It was headed up by the same friend that told me on Sunday, "This is a Lutheran picnic, of course there isn't any healthy food." It was 7:15 when I headed on home and 35 miles traveled thus far. I then headed on home. It was getting dark, but as long as I found my way onto the bike path, I wasn't worried about traffic. After taking a wrong turn, and going 2 extra miles in the process, I found the trail and took it all the way back home to about a mile from my house. I pulled in the driveway at 9:00, just 2 minutes after it got too dark to travel safely. Total distance, 60 miles. It's worth noting that the last leg of my journey (25 miles) was done in an hour and 45 minutes. I was really going hard. My legs never got tired, but man are they sore right about now. I can't wait to see what they are going to do to me tomorrow at work. Oh yea, the cramps didn't start coming at me until the 50 mile mark or so. I think God wanted me to arrive home safely before dark.

That's the spirit!! I used to cross country bike when I was younger (when I was in better shape too) and I love biking. I once did a cross country run from Seal Beach, CA to Death Valley and back. :sigh: Good job on your 60 mile run. keep it up and go farther next time. Although, you may want to get your bike a bit more conditioned. brakes against tire can make a mile seem like 50 miles. Praise the Lord for your triumph, just remember who made that body so you can do that.

I did it because it is the last chance I had this year. I work 5ive days a week and I will be going to school the other two days. I just like riding.

I should also mention that my legs feel fine this morning. Just a little weak. I took some naproxen last night when I got home and worked them out in the pool. Surprisingly, they weren't sore, nor cramping up after I was in the pool swimming around. I must have strong legs if this ride affected me like it did.

When I was young, on the farm, I rode bike everywhere, even out in the fields. When I got a 10 speed, on the road I would generally just leave it in high. Ended up with a couple of turkey drumsticks for legs.

The spills I took were legendary.

I think the worst was the time I was riding on refrozen melt ice in the spring. Suddenly, the front tire disappeared, my head hit hard enough to pop a hole in the ice, and I lifted it just in time to have the bike seat drive it down again. Couldn't balance to ride the bike home, had to walk.

But the time I was racing our dog and he ran into the front tire at full speed was close. I left the yard for a couple of minutes and came back with the sleeves ripped off my shirt and bleeding from every extremity.

Of course those were the days of "what's a bike helmet".

You know with all the video games and stuff out now, its nice to see a young person doing something outside. My kids used to holler I'm bored. I remember getting outside, riding bikes, building forts, digging holes to see them fill up with water (don't ask), we would find all kinds of things to do outside. We never got bored.

I need to get a bike, that would probably be more fun to ride that around then it would be for me to do 4 mile power walks. (I try to cover 4 miles on foot in less then an 1 hr 15 min.)

Maybe I could ride a bike into town the next time I need something cause it would take too long to walk but driving acomplishes nothing for my body.
