Good moning friends,
As you may have heard, we have a grave situation in the SDA forum and in eccumenical reports. I have closed two threads started by a poster who is professing Satan worship. Those generated about fifteen reports in the last eighteen hours, and the argument has moved from the SDA forum to the reports forum. I closed all of the reports for staff review to interrupt the argument, but this situation promises to get worse.
I am just a little over my head here, and have very limited daytime internet access.
I have exchanged PM's with the poster and asked her to stop until we can get a handle on the situation.
thread #1 (http://foru.ms/t5987899-setting-the-record-straight.html)
thread #2 (http://foru.ms/t5991285-moriah-sets-the-record-straight-again.html)
God's love,
Peter

let us know if you need any help ok longhair? a report should have something written in it even if just to say this was taken care of here(and put a link to another report) If they are too old (over two weeks) and dont flame or need editing then closing is fine in some cases just put some note that this is the case ok....hmmmm what are other reasons a report can be closed with no action....oh if its a duplicate but then the best would be to merge them together and action them all at once.....yes let us know if you need help your one of the hardest working mods taking on SDA the way you have please let us know how we can help you ok:wave:

just for the record: I closed those reports with a mod hat stating they were closed for staff review.[quote]from the first post in this thread: I have closed two threads started by a poster who is professing Satan worship. It was never my intention to permanently close them or refrain from working them. I just tried to head off the argument that was spilling over into the report forum.
I did not move them to the archive. I do not know who did. I will be more than happy to move them back into the reports forum and reopen them.

What threads were they, Jim?
Tish pointed the one out, but there were many others. I'm sorry but for lack of time I am not able to research this, but it should be made clear that this is not standard procedure. Its better to leave them open until someone can work them to a completion.

friend Jim,
you seem to be implying that I closed them so I would not need to work on the reports. Just like the Mod Hat in each report stated, I closed those reports temporarily for staff review due to the nature of the controversy and the argument that threatened to spill over into the reports forum. I still have no idea who moved them into the archive. If I could draw your kind attention to the very first post in this thread you might find that I posted that very information in explanation of why I took this action.
It was never my intention to ignore the reports. I was merely acting to difuse the situation until we could get a handle on it.
I have learned my lesson, though. The next time a train wreck is heading our way, I will blissfully ignore it and work one report at a time.

Longhair did the right thing. The situation had to be diffused. It would not have been better to leave them open and allow all of the flaming within them to continue.

O-er! Think I might be the culprit there, folks! I have been cleaning up the reports from time to time and archiving closed reports. I haven't done it for a couple of weeks though but that's not to say someone else might be doing the same thing - with the best of intentions, of course!
If it WAS me, I sincerely and abjectly apologise.

I thought nor said no such thing. I simply said closing reports before they were done is not proper protocal, which shpuld be quite evident as flaglady thought they were done and archived them when nothing had been done.
Its better to leave them open until they have been resolved.
See my idea I just posted #6 in this thread.

Yes, I just read that post. I think it was Ministry that started that up and I thought then it was a good system even though ET at the time voted it out.
Perhaps it's time for a rethink.
Think I'll put this up in another thread

longhair, let me appologize for questioning your system:wave: as you can see we all got confused over this one it was just one of those things that happens in here from time to time
its all ok now that we can see the picture more clearly and in fact has spawned a few great idea for the future
I would also like to consider a protocol for emergency modding situations that a forum could use in a pinch if they so desired, and I dont even know what to suggest only that its hard sometimes with so few mods and we need to fix it so in a pinch they can rely on another means (like closing and archiving if that works) to get to a serious matter at hand, what ever it is needs to be in a wiki for us:thumbsup:
open for all kinds of suggestions:thumbsup:

While I hate to suggest ANOTHER forum to add to the confusion, but what if there was a subforum of the reports for Emergency situations. The locking of the threads might have been a good idea, but it was confused with the closed threads. These emergency temporarily closed threads could be closed and moved into an emergency subforum. In this case, we leave the redirect from the main report forum, so they can be found by those visiting the report forum. These emergency reports are dealt with as a priority by those responsible (supers, admins, etc).
Again, this would only be used in extreme situations like experienced in the SDA forum, so in most situations, this subforum would never get used.

I don't think moving them to another forum would help much as they would still be available to the membership.

Yes, but if they are closed, then they can't be posted in until they are reopened to work on.

Maybe we could just add a comment that this is being closed till supervisor intervention.
IN this case, the poster violatiing, was useing a sock to defend her own position in the reporting threads.

I love these ideas sooooo tagging them some how....maybe Erwin can create a tag icon for Super and Admin referals for ANY report or thread(as long as members dont use it as a joke:doh:) the idea of closing them with a tag that lets members know this one is for Admins and Sups ....hmmmmm what would that look like, maybe it could be a different color mod hat post:)

Closing reports before they are done just so we keep members from posting is not right and not accpetable. If I'm busy I don't even read members posts, but if I'm looking for information I do. We simply can not and should never close reports until they are done.
I know the debates that take place in the reports are a pain, but once we get enough staff we will start dealing with them and reporting those who disrupt reports, when that happends you will see the debates slpw down a lot, but for now we just have to put up with it.
I like the tagging idea too
