The band is the Specials, the song is Ghost Town
This place… is coming like a ghost town
Bands won't play no more
Too much fighting on the dance floor
Do you remember the good old days before the ghost town?
We danced and sang… and the music played in a de boomtown
This town… is coming like a ghost town
Why must the youth fight against themselves?
Government leaving the youth on the shelf
This place, is coming like a ghost town
No job to be found in this country
Can't go on no more
The people getting angry

Dissolution of a culture and the inevitable chaos that follows as people search for their places and figure out what to do with themselves?
I typically find Springsteen songs are the ones that reduce me to mournful contemplation of places I grew up. "Down in the shadow of the penitentiary, out by the gas fires of the refinery, ten years down the road, nowhere to run, ain't got no place to go" is such a depressingly accurate depiction of the area I spent my last part of high school in that it just makes me sad.

Why are you frightened - cant you see that it's you?
That aint no ghost - it's a reflection of you?
Why do you turn away - keep it out of sight
Oh don't live up to your given roles
There's more inside you that you won't show
But you keep it hidden just like everyone
You're scared to show you care - make you vulnerable
So you wear that ghost around you for disguise
But there's no need just 'cause it's all we've known
There's more inside you that you haven't shown
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
One day you'll walk right out of this life
And then you'll wonder why you didn't try
To spread some loving all around
Old fashioned causes like that still stand
Gotta rid this prejudice that ties you down
How do you feel at the end of the day?
Just like youve waked over your own grave
So why are you frightened - can't you see that its you
At the moment there's nothing - so there's nothing to lose
Lift up your lonely heart and walk right on through

Hey Loki, I know what you mean. Bruce has that ability to capture those feelings like no other, and make us feel bad yet good at the same time.
For me, Jungleland makes me ache for the life that I never had, and mourn the loss of a love that never was. Don't know why, it just is. Oh and the whole album, The River is a whole mess of depression elation and wonder in my mind.

oh a Rascal Flatts song just came on............
I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house
That don't bother me
I can take a few tears now and then
and just let 'em out
I'm not afraid to cry every once in a while
Even though going on with you gone still upsets me
There are days every now and again
I pretend I'm ok, but that's not what gets me
What hurts the most
was being so close
And havin' so much to say
And watchin' you walk away
And never knowin'
What could've been
And not seein' that lovin' you
Is what I was trying to do
It's hard to deal with the pain of losin' you every where I go
But I'm doin' it
It's hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I'm alone
Still harder
Gettin' up, gettin' dressed, livin' with this regret, but I know
If I could do it over
I would trade, give away, all the words that I saved in my heart that I left unspoken

This forum has been a bit of a ghost town recently. But, look on the bright side, OBOB has become more liberal now since some of the conservatives have left so we can always go post over there.

I feel the same way, Jungleland is such a great song. If The River makes you depressed the album Nebraska will have you running your car in the garrage with the door closed. Some wonderful, miserable stuff on that record.
I like the Specials too.

I guess Ill to to florida and get myself some sun
There aint no more opportunity here, everythings been done
Sometime I think of tweeter, sometime I think of jan
Sometime I dont think about nothing but the monkey man
And the walls came down all the way to hell
Never saw them when theyre standing
Never saw them when they fell

Willie Nelson, The Party's Over Lyrics
Turn out the lights
The party's over
They say that
All good things must end
Call it tonight
The party's over
And tomorrow starts
