Since there is no rule now, how do we know if this poll is binding?

Good question but that is precisely why I posted this poll so that we may have a consensus to make a rule that is binding

The majority of the polls I have seen are evidently hastily assembled and poorly written.
At best they are a general indication of something.
To say they must be binding is to give just too much power to how the polls are written.
At the least, if they are going to be binding, then they would need to be tested and approved before posting. Tested that they indeed only address one topic, and that they are logical and that the actually do a good job of representing different views.

They don't need to be tested and approved first.
Goodness, you guys are gonna make it so it takes a couple months just to ask to go to the bathroom.
If there's something wrong in a poll, it can be brought up in the discussion in that poll's thread, and we can always lock it and start over, exactly like what happened with this very poll. It was first started, but done wrong, so we just closed it and started over. We didn't need to set up a discussion committee to do that.
And yes, they should be binding. I don't see the point of having polls if they don't mean anything.

New option: There are too many polls at the moment.

I think we should take a poll and see if this is the concensus. :P

You mean...like we're voting on this matter without knowing the outcome of that OTHER poll on "by what percentage?" ;)

Only if it's nyj's one. His should be binding, ratified and made a law.

LOL... I can't keep straight what rules are what and how we are supposed to get things straightened out as far as the rules go with all these polls... I am so confused at this point!

Oh, and if the polls are only binding for a month or 3 or 6 -- are we then going to have to re-vote every month or 3 or 6? I don't exactly understand what this poll is in regards to frankly.
IMHO the rules should be pretty much set in stone once decided and only changed if there is a big problem -- and in that case then, YES there should be discussion, and THEN a poll!
Just my $.02 cents...

And I agree, set that puppy in rock
Now of course if we were to post a poll to decide a major issue ands write within it, that the decision made by the majority would be the decision enacted, then of course integrity compells those posting said poll and should be as binding as a contract. Especially if we give our word as a christian.

I think that this means that a rule so amended cannot be altered for three or six months. After that, the rule lasts until amended, theoretically forever.

Correct we have to have a fail safe in case a rule isn't working that we can re-examine it after a time....but at the same time we have to give time for the rules to actually work before we decide they need to be re assessed....
