Anyone know if there is a Huge Cross that we can get for our CF characters? This is a huge cross for us to bear here at CF...so I'd like to really show it!

There are a couple of processional crosses in the special armor area.

Tam, didn't Rev absolve you yet? Or are you repenting again every few minutes for your sins ;)

I still am not completely sure about the doctrine that Pastors can forgive sins. I need to do more research on it.

I looked around for a big cross and I couldn't find one. Perhaps if someone could tell me the price for it I could find it easier.

Those aren't big enough. I have spent 2 hours and 30 posts in the anouncements forum trying to fight against these new forum changes. There just doesn't seem like anything I can do other than that.

Most of us Theology folks have just been snarky.
GCC has been quite ornery.

I was just playing with your "repent" sign. It convicted me.
Also, DaRev is not my Shepherd. :)

I know you were :) It was cute and fun.
Rev isn't your shepherd, but he's ordained, I'm not. Even though in an emergency I feel ok to forgive someone his sins, I don't think the end of CHRISTIAN forums qualifies as an emergency just yet ;)

You could anly forgive the sins of someone who sinned against you personally. Only one who is called and ordained and has the authority of the Office of the Keys instituted by Christ can grant general absolution.

But Rev, what about this:
Just as in a case of necessity even a layman absolves, and becomes the minister and pastor of another; as Augustine narrates the story of two Christians in a ship, one of whom baptized the catechumen, who after Baptism then absolved the baptizer.

Absolved the "baptizer" of what, though? The authority to forgive sins is given to the Office of the Keys, the function of which is the responsibility of the one who is rightly called.

And out of necessity where 2 or 3 are gathered in His name, isn't that an emergency situation where a layman could be "called" to absolve...since it's an emergency? That's the way I read it...and I know I've seen it explained outside of the Confessions like that as well.

This is what I remember reading from Luther on this:
In his sermon on the first Sunday after Easter on John 20:19-31, preached in 1522 at Borna, a young Luther states:Quote:
"Here the power of absolution is given to all Christians, although some, like the Pope, bishops, priests, and monks, have appropriated it to themselves alone. They say publicly and shamelessly that this power is given to them alone and not to the laymen as well. But Christ is speaking here neither of priests nor monks. on the contrary, he says: 'Receive ye the Holy Ghost .' This power is given to him who has the Holy Ghost, that is, to him who is a Christian. But who is a Christian? He who believes. He who believes has the Holy Ghost. Therefore every Christian has the power, which the pope, bishops, priests and monks have in this case, to forgive sins or to retain them... To be sure, all of us possess this power; but no one except him who was chosen by the congregation to do so should presume to practice it publicly. In private, I certainly may use this power. If, for instance, my neighbor comes and says: My friend, I am burdened in conscience, speak a word of absolution to me; then I am at liberty to do so. But in private, I say, this must be done."
In his sermon on the first Sunday after Easter, 1540, in Dessau on the John 20 text, an older Luther states:Quote:
"But who can express what an unspeakable, mighty and blessed comfort it is that a human being can with one word open heaven and lock hell to a fellow mortal? For in this kingdom of Grace Christ has founded through his resurrection, we do indeed nothing else than open our mouth and say, I forgive thee thy sins, not on my account, nor by my power, but in the place of, and in the name of, Jesus Christ, for he does not say: ye shall forgive sins on your own account, but: 'I send you, as my Father hath sent me.' I myself do not do this of my own choice or counsel, but I am sent by the Father. This same commandment I give to you unto the end of the world, that both ye and all the world shall know that such forgiveness or retaining of sin is not done by human power or might, but by the command of him who is sending you. This is not said alone to the ministers or the servants of the church, but also to every Christian. Here each may serve another in the hour of death, or wherever there is need, and give him absolution."

Also, don't you think that there should be an explaination about the continuing existance of Christ as the center of this site alongside this picture in our sigs?

While one can grant absolution to one who has sinned against them, it is generally given that general absolution is a function of the Office. This is why in our Divine Service settings there are two choices for "absolution". One is spoken by the pastor, "as a called and ordained servant of Christ and by His authority...", and one that is a general announcement of Christ's forgiveness that may be spoken by a layman, "May the Lord who has begun this good work in us bring it to completion..."
See LSB page 151.

Mel, can you give me a hand? If possible, I would like it to have my Church's slogan or mission statement or whatever it is underneath the picture.
It's "Bringing Christ to people. Building Christ followers."
Or maybe, "Extending the love and care of the crucified and risen Christ to all people."
That's the other slogan or mission statement.

Radiata, the recent Luther movie shows his struggles with 'the voices in his head'. There are people who question Luther's sanity because he 'talked and muttered to himself'. Personally, I think the evil one was tormenting him because Luther was wresting the control of the church from the Devil.
As to the sign under the signature, I would rather have the Lutheran shield, like Raddio does.
