Alright, so, this thread was started before I started the "Real Presence" thing, but I still posted in here anyway. The thread-started and I go back a little bit on CF -- basically he's a staunch CoCer who thinks that they're the only saved ones. On page 6, is where I questioned the existence of Restoration Movement CoC existing in the second century:

I'm not touching that thread with a 10 foot pole but I will pass along something my former CoC friend told me. Can someone who is not saved administer a valid baptism? If the Church died out after the last apostle, who, that was saved, baptized Campbell and the other CoC founders?
I'm sure they can rationalize an answer because folks can usually rationalize anything to make it fit their beliefs.

Now, THAT is thought provoking!

Isn't the Church of Christ the same church that do not use instruments in their services? Only the human voice?

The "rationalization" is the remnant theory. That true Christians were in a cave some place singing "Count your Blessings" and keeping grape juice from fermenting.

It seems a lot of the "breaking away" is mostly a cultural thing. Not understanding some of the ways of the early Christians they are misunderstood and so therefore "apostate" in the eyes of the West. Looking into the history and the culture at the same time opened my eyes to how things were done in ancient times.
Matthew 19:14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
They did baptize the babies and children in the first century.

I can just see them dropping the ice cubes into it.

Yes, though. many have changed that stance. I still believe it is practiced by the majority.

They don't generally believe the "whole church" died out (at least not in my understanding). They believe that the church went underground.

No worries. I know what I'm doing with this one -- not so much with Real Presence though. ;)

I thought that was some Baptist groups.
Unless it is a common idea among some Protestants.

It doesn't surprise me. Some of the Restoration Movement pioneers were Baptists.

Don't the "Landmark" Baptists believe they are the continuation of the Church founded by John (the first Baptist)?

Some Baptist align themselves with the various gnoctic groups throughout history all the way back to the time of the Apostles.
google up "the trail of blood".
That's a little different than saying "presto Chango" and poof, there is no record of the church for 1700 years, and then stone and campbell were enlightened.
At least we know that the Waldenes , the Cathars and the Paulicians existed.

I would like to know where in the Bible it stated the Church would be lost for 1700 years. Of course if the Bible canon was placed together around 400 A. D. (?) then who put it together? If the Church was lost after the Apostles died out, I mean. None of it makes any sense, and this is why I rejected Protestantism.
