View Full Version : Am I being too sensitive?

Maybe because I've been dealing with some negativity lately with people misunderstanding my faith and such, but this was posted on another site I am a member of by a young gal who is leaning towards Wicca, but is not sure what she is. :sigh: And I didn't find it funny, although it was supposedly a joke. I don't find killing funny, but maybe I am too sensitive. I guess I'm tired of the slam on Christianity, period. Here's what the "joke" was.
Christianity: Killing you in God's name for over 2000 years.
Judaism: Believing they are the chosen ones for over 5000 years.
Wicca: Pretending to be an ancient religion since 1957.
Buddhism: Being spiritually apathetic longer than anyone else.
Asatru: Pillaging and burning long before Microsoft.
Scientology: Making celebrities pay for God since 1950.

Some pagan site.
I asked her what about Islam. That isn't in there for killing. And so, sometimes I can be too serious, but come on. I bet if it would've said Wicca: killing in the Goddess's name for 2000 year, she wouldn't think that was funny. :( :sigh: :sorry: :(

Who knows. If I had a dime for every time somebody insulted me for my Catholic beliefs... just ignore it; it's not worth being upset over.

No, I don't think you are being too sensitive. The world hates our God, and therefore hates us. Some Christians even have the opportunity to be tortured and killed for their faith.

I think it was meant as a joke. To bad this type of perception does actually exist - otherwise it wouldn't be much of a joke...:)

I agree with this!
Anyone of those attacked in those statements would be offended.

I think they are just trying to be satirical; however, many satirists usually leave out Islam because they seem to be cowards.

Well, thank you all for your support. I was feeling pretty crummy last night. I guess I'd just gotten so tired of that type of junk. I mean, nobody else in the joke was mentioned killing people. It just seemed so wrong. :( But, I understand this stuff is normal. It's ok to slam Christians, just no other religion to that degree, for Pete's sake.

Sounds like typical 21st century America to me. :(

It's not funny to me, either. It's not even true!! Usually jokes in order to be funny need a little truth to them, or they just come across as a lie.

That and we saw the last time someone made a joke about Islam in the newspapers how that turned out.
Islam: killing innocent people for a cartoon of a false prophet for about 1300 years.

Futuwwa,
You asked it wrong. No Orthodox person will understand your question. You must phrase it like this:
Was it cartoons in 7th century Arabia? No! Is Outrage!

Oh, I don't think you understood what I meant. How can Muslims have rioted over cartoons for 1300 years when there were no cartoons in the beginning.
Though, one could certainly add the following to the list...
Wahhabism: If it was not in 7th century Arabia, it is Outrage!
(yeah, that seems to be very much how Wahhabism operates)
and to be fair
Islam: Like Christianity, is 600 years behind, but tries very hard to catch up!

It was a joke. :P
Although to be fair Islam has always overreacted to graphical depictions of Muhommad.
