I got a call from my oldest sister, and her son (my nephew) and his wife had a baby boy a short while ago. :) It was a suprise for us because we were told that the baby wouldn't come until the end of August.
Mwhuauaua...they're entering the sacred realm of parenthood....and all those all-nighters...

It's been almost 10 years since we've had a "baby" in the family. We won't be able to see him until the holidays roll around. They live in California, and my nephew will be heading to Iraq (I think?) sometime in January for about 9 months. So they'll be visiting before he leaves. Boy, he's gonna miss quite abit of the baby's "firsts". You know...first roll-over, first crawl...ect.

Congratulations! I remember when my neice had her first baby. She thought she was ready. *snickers* No one really ever is. But you sure learn quickly!
My prayers are with your nephew's family as he heads to Iraq. Military families have some of the toughest trials of all, I think.

Said the overbite was pretty bad but wouldn't have to remove any permanent teeth so I guess it's braces instead of new paint on the old plymouth ;)
Good night all, back to work for me tomorrow in Randallstown MD

^_^ That's funny, I don't think my hubby with his typical flannel shirt, t shirt and jeans "outfit" :sigh: would do well.
LOL, that's what I thought but most all those plaid flannel shirts went to the Goodwill and were replaced by nice tropical prints!

I don't know what to think about the name change. Certainly for us who found eachother before the change - we'll be OK. But I found Christian Forums by Googling in July, 2003, as a newish believer who wanted fellowship with more on-fire Christians. What will happen to those nameless, faceless people now? How will they find us? We don't know them, so we can't invite them. :(

LOL, GM, my heart hurts most days anymore. If it's not something good getting ruined, it's something evil getting glorified. I honestly don't understand how God stands it anymore - why he hasn't just said "I'm done with you lot!" He is surely patient and long-suffering!

Yes, and not only that...
I feel that the real threat to this Christian congregation lies much more with us than with the changes that Erwin made.
We already have all the freedom and opportunity we need to turn this Conservative Christian forum into a really good fellowship and ministry that glorifies God, but we aren't making it happen.
We at least need to learn how to disagree with each other in more gentle ways, such as by saying "I don't think I see it that way because..." It really isn't all that hard to disagree on occasions without using aggressive language or personalising our responses.
Yesterday evening, this forum looked ghastly, with nearly every thread about rules, polls, controversies over Erwin's changes, membership etc, and very little about the Lord. I was glad to see that we began to address that situation later on, with some fellowship threads and stuff about audio Bibles etc.
Also, I think that some of the extreme scepticism concerning Erwin's motives is unwarranted. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power and love, the Bible says, and we should not allow a pervasive mood of scepticism and hearsay to erode our faith and hope.
Those who assert this and that about what Erwin is really planning to do, only need to be wrong in their assumptions, and they are then bearing false witness against that man over and over again.
On the positive side, there is also quite a lot of agreement and cordiality between individuals of different denominations. So there are some encouraging signs.
I don't think the answer to the problems is necessarily to leave this forum, but to percieve the problems as a challenge. I think we could easily combine our faith, hope, love, skills, Bible knowledge, experiences of God etc, to create a forum that really glows. Let's do it then.

*snipped for space*I think there are two aspects to what you said. First, the site in general, and secondly, the CC forum specifically.
Regarding the latter, you're spot on, no equivocation :)
The site in general, though... I think it's more complicated than that. There's no question, much of what's been said, and done, in terms of reaction, has been unacceptable. But people have legitimate concerns, and should be allowed to express that. What you have to bear in mind is it's been in turmoil since February, and reached a pinnacle of "Auuuugh!" on the 7th of July. Then this.
I really believe we are utterly entitled to question Erwin's actions, as people who have invested time and sometimes money into the forum. But there's a line, and attacking him and insulting him is going a long way past it.

Yeah, I do sketchboard as well. Here's a tip:
If you can get hold of powdered paint that you make up into paint by adding water, it is much better than the thick poster paint that comes in plastic bottles ready-made. It is easier to paint with, doesn't run so much and is more resistant to a few spots of rain.

Thanks! I'll try that.
Is the preparation that's taking ages - we're doing a four day event, and will probably use sketchboard four or five times a day - which is an awful lot of little boxes to paint! :)
Also - haven't actually done this for almost twenty years....

Another way is to write the words on the paper beforehand using a white candle. When you paint over the area, the words appear. It's a nice effect. You can say "you couldn't see these words a moment ago - just like you can't see God's love, but it is real".

It's green! Ooh, see, I can't get my head around knitting. How do you start it off? And if you miss a stitch, how do you go back and catch it? The whole thing is mind-bending.
And with knitting, is there loads of different stitches? I vaguely know the one that's underneath-yarn around-scoop it through-yarn off. But even that probably isn't right
What bit of crochet makes you confuzzled?

Knitting is easy - there are different stitches, but not hard once you've learnt them! I probably just didn't stick with crochet long enough to suss it - just seemed to put the little hooky thing in the wrong place...

How fast is knitting? Like, say to create a square that's 6 inches by 6 inches, how long would it take? The idea of a crochet/knitted "patchwork" blanket appeals very much, and if knitting is quick, it might be worth actually learning for real
Aww, back to school soon :D When do they go back? Are they excited?

Hey you guys. I loom knit. I am going to learn how to regular knit, but loom knitting is a great way to get used to stitches and stuff. I taught myself. There are great websites that show how to do it. I have made scarves, hats, and it would be very easy to make an easy afghan out of squares. The loom knitter does not do intricate stitches, or at least, I haven't learned how, but it is good for beginners. My set is made by kniftyknitters.

There are round looms and rectangle looms. I have a rectangle one but I haven't used it yet.
What you do is your wrap the loom pegs almost like you would a knitting needle. Then, you use the tool provided to pull the yarn up and over the yarn on the pegs. I love doing it and it goes soooo fast. I am making all my Christmas presents.
Oh, and I have also made placemats with the round looms. I started a pocket book as well, but the danged yarn had bad places all through it. I have just never tried it since.

Am good, thank you, mama! Heyyyy, tis getting closer and closer til you see him! :tutu: Are you butterfliesy in your stomach? :D
What kind of stuff does your mum make? Vintage-style crochet is so, so amazing. Makes the world a nicer place :)
Actually he's not able to make it this time. We're hoping that by Thanksgiving he will be caught up enough in his bills to fly here for the holiday. I'm sure if he WERE almost going to be here I'd have HUGE butterflies in my stomach though. :D Good and big ones! ;)
The blankets you have photos of look much like her stuff. She's made huge ones before that fit on a king size bed and smaller ones for kids. She's also made table cloths and table runners before. We have some doilies she made with smaller needles...turn out absolutely gorgeous! One year she made these little angels with a wooden clothesline pin and they turned out so cute. No pictures of these things but take my word for it...very cute. :)

LisaPicturing a miniature loom to make flowers out of, where you weave in and out. Is it like that?
Messed up yarn is a *nightmare*. Argh! Worst thing is when on the outside it's all lovely and new and perfect, as if the flaws have been hidden on the inside. Grr. Can ruin an entire project :(

Nah, the looms are too large to make flowers. Now, I suppose if you wanted a flower that was about 4 inches in diameter, you could do that.
But, the looms make rows just like in regular knitting. To make a scarf, you stop on a certain row, and then, go the other direction. If you are making a hat, then, yes, you just keep going round and round until you are done.
Oh, and that is exactly what happened to me. I had the back piece of a hand bag done. I then started on the front. The yarn was that eyelash yarn in which the core yarn was supposed to be white. All of a sudden, ever few inches the core yarn would turn pale orange!!! It was a black and white purse! It was awful!

Aren't they amazing, though? *sigh* Say, in the second one, how have they joined the squares together? I can't work out what that is. It looks like reverse treble crochet, or something? :scratch:Oh! Fabulous! Look at all that green! :D If it wasn't so warm I'd be trying to snuggle up in it right now! Of course, that might be kinda hard through the computer screen. ^_^
I really like the first one of the two multi-coloured ones. It looks so soft. And the colour combination. Well, I guess they are both very similar, eh? But the first one looks so vintage.
I have no idea how the second one is put together. I am working one now that has a join as you go stitch for assembling. Maybe that is what was used in that one? Only different than the one I'm doing. I put pics of it up at the other forum in my Yarn crafts thread.

Or, at least, keep them different shades of 1 colour? I have a mixture of both, and the crazy multi-coloured ones always zing a little more... if that makes any sense? :D

Oh look at that!! Look how intricate that is! Is yours a similar pattern? And at the bottom, is that simple chain stitch but all inter-connected?

Oh look at that!! Look how intricate that is! Is yours a similar pattern? And at the bottom, is that simple chain stitch but all inter-connected?The edging is chain stitches and sc intermingled...if I remember correctly. It's like doing lace in a way. Only with much bigger yarn.

I started on a table cloth...eons ago...I'm still working on it. I find I can't do very much on it without my wrist protesting...for days afterwards. Too intricate and I tend to hold it really tight. A bedspread would be fantastic. :)
There is a lot of worsted weight cotton yarn available now...and sport weight too. It's actually astounding what is available in yarn nowadays. But so much fun to look and and shop for. :D

Oh I forgot...I got blackberry honey too...runny honey. :)
How bout pics? Well, not the fudge, cause it's all gone. :o :sorry: Was just a weeny little block anyway. :D But it was nice and creamy and kinds like a specialty mocha coffee drink...you know that mixture of coffee and milk and in this case white chocolate. I'm not a fan of white chocolate, but this combo works for me. :)
Here's a pic of the flowers...

So impressed at you being able to buy just one little piece. And the flowers are so pretty :) Heh, we're kind of girly :D
Hey, speaking of: do you think CC *has* become quote womancentric? Our active members do seem to be mostly women somhow. When did that happen?

Nnnngh, craving honey on toast now :yum: What makes it blackberry honey? The little bees work very hard collecting pollen from only the blackberry flowers...then they go and make yummy honey for us to eat. :yum:
Make that honey and fudge on toast. Or honey on fudge. Really, the toast would just be getting in the way :POh my goodness. Now I just have to go have a snack. But I'll keep the toast in there...I love bread...in any form.

When did that happen?I think it's that the girls like to 'gab' a lot and the guys like to 'discuss' things. Or something. ;) There are plenty of guys, but maybe they're off in other places a lot of the time.
Oh yeah...and I am going to answer your pm...I just got a bit sidetracked...

Hadn't ever heard of that! So it's literally blackberry honey. Is it blackberryish?I was telling another friend I'd gotten blackberry honey and she was saying she'd not be able to tell the difference. There is clover and buckwheat and alfalfa and wildflower and others. But I can't say that it especially makes you think of blackberries. I think that is is just milder than other honeys...if that makes any sense.
Croissants! :yum:

Hmm...I hope not either.

Tell them congratulations for me
I hope I get a few more grand kiddies yet. My little grand daughters are so sweet
