I was just reading and came across this, so I thought I'd share it here with everyone :)

5. "What then is the mark? Who is a Methodist, according to your own account?" I answer: A Methodist is one who has "the love of God shed abroad in his heart by the Holy Ghost given unto him;" one who "loves the Lord his God with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his mind, and with all his strength. God is the joy of his heart, and the desire of his soul; which is constantly crying out, "Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee! My God and my all! Thou art the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever!"

I read the article, and I agree that it is what all true Christians should believe. I knew i was meant to be a Methodist, even though I have been to this point because it is what I was born into.

I'd like to learn more about John Wesley in general, any advice on starting places?

Deeper Fellowship is a forum used by all denominations and the biblical studies being presented there are being threatened. We want to develope a forum for non-tradtional bible study

i.e. archeology, revelations of scripture etc.

Since it has a non debate clause on the forum it could only be a contemplative topic agenda.

Anyone please, your import is welcomed and needed to get a good subforum for all of us as one.

His sermons are online.

And this wiki article will give a good general biography.

when john wesley wrote this, he primarely thought of christians, not in peticular of methodists. "methodist" was not a compliment back then... ;)

our pastor just does a series on wesleys book. it's especially great for new christians.

I'm reading Kenneth Collin's book, John Wesley A Theological Journey. It's very well written so far, and I am learning a lot about Wesley and his thoughts.

I think I would start with a biography. There are lots of good ones out there. If you really don't know much and just want to get a taste start with something simple, maybe even something intended for Jr. High youth just to get an overview. One of the more serious works on Wesley was by Albert Outler and it great for people who are interested in some heavy reading. One that I personally really liked is The Burning Heart, John Wesley: Evangelist, by Skevington Wood, copyright 1967 by Bethany Fellowship. He does more than just talk about Wesley in it, but quotes him enough so that you really get a sense of Wesley's theology from Wesley himself. Of course, the serious Wesley student would probably start with his journal and sermons.
