About the baptism of the water, There are two baptism, the one of Juan and of Holy Spirit. One it is baptized in the Holy Spirit in the measurement that is including/understanding the word of God, not word of the man, nonrules of men The baptism of the water is surpassed by the baptism in the Spirit.
The Spirit is God wisdom
CORINTHIANS 1 13
6 (http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/1corinthians/1corinthians1.htm#foot6) Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I give thanks (to God) that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so that no one can say you were baptized in my name. 16 (I baptized the household of Stephanas also; beyond that I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) 17 7 (http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/1corinthians/1corinthians1.htm#foot7) 8 (http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/1corinthians/1corinthians1.htm#foot8) For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with the wisdom of human eloquence, so that the cross of Christ might not be emptied of its meaning. 18 The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Exactly . John's baptism was a traditional Jewish ritual symnbolizing repentance . It was performed many times - not a requirement for salvation . It is mentioned in *five* writings that John did something in water but the Lord would do it by the Spirit . Only *one* baptism - that would be the Lord's for me . I get wet everyday .

Actually, the Bible teaches that there are at least 3...
Baptism in water
Baptism in the Spirit
Baptism into the body.

Example of baptism.
When you begin in a unknown science, that is baptism
When you are baptized with the Holy Spirit, you begin in the science of God, know it something better?

Ephesians 4:5
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
That's all well and good but the Bible doesn't contradict itself-so that passage can't mean what you are implying for we have scripture
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, ..."
(I Cor.12:13)
There is coming one who is mightier than I, whose shoes I am unworthy to untie, it is He who baptises with the Holy Spirit. Mark 1:7-8
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Matthew 28:19-20
That's three.

Father, son, and Holy Spirit, like a single person not three , The Gospel is word of God , the son and the Holy Spirit, only one Spirit

By the time Paul penned the Ephesian epistle, there was one baptism in effect, not two, Eph 4:5. This one baptism, being the baptism of the great commission which had human administrators, is water baptism. This baptism was to be taken to the whole world. We can even see Paul himself water baptized some of the Corinthians, 1 Cor 1:14,16. Actually 1 Cr 1:6 and following shows the necessity of this water baptism.
No one other than the apostles were promised the baptism with the Holy Spirit, Acts 1:1-5. This baptism with the Holy Spirit was a prophecy of Joel, Joel 2:28, that was fulfilled by the Lord when the Lord baptized the apostles (Jews) in Acts 2 and Cornelius (Gentiles) in Acts 10. Thus all flesh, Jew and Gentile, were baptized with the Holy Ghost fulfilling this prophecy making this baptism obsolete.

Greetings in the Name of Jesus: :hug:
I would like to agree with all posters; which all seem to discern Gods words in truth:
I would Only like to add three 1/2 short verses in support.
Colossian 2;9-11. " For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. 10. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power. 11. In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ; buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him thought the faith of the operation of God."
Now the key part is we are circumcised with the circumcision " made not by hands" in putting off the body of sins. which, made not by hands always denotes " spiritual things " or of spirit. And also risen in him by faith. Faith is not Made with hands but is without.
Now Circumcision of old, and water baptism, is made with hands. Snip snip, Sprinkle sprinkle, Dunk dunk.
Being born of Spirit in Christ, is a Spiritual baptism. not made by hands. Which this removes the body of sins.
I pray my words do not offend any, God bless C.F. and all who use it. :wave:

Col 2:12 says buried with Him in baptism, wherein ye are also risen with Him. THis context says nothing about a baptism without hands. The baptism is a burial where one is then raised up. One is buried in a watery grave then rasied up (risen) from that water grave.

Dear jmacvols:.
If your referring to my post, of Col 2;12. then you read the wrong verses: if you go back and look, I gave the scriptures verses. colossians 2;9-11. and the verse with the "made without hands" is col 2;11. Which I guess you miss read. which I have done also.
That is if your speaking to Me: which I suppose speaking of 2;11 or 2;12 colossians of " made with out hands" thats me.
And thank you for your interest; and I hope we might as brothers discern unto Gods truths of word; and hold not unto doctrines of men, but lean unto every word which cometh from God.
I pray my words offend not. God bless C.F. and all who use it.

spiritofprophecy, I am quite confused as to what you are trying to say. Are you saying that (water) baptism is not necessary, because when you come to a belief in God it is not a physical baptism that takes place but one of the mind or what?
I don't want to jump to conclusions and I don't know if I agree with you, but I don't really understand what you are saying so could you explain it differently or clarify?

John said, I baptize them with water, but the one that comes mine behind will baptize them with Holy Spirit. As then Jesus could baptize with water? , He came to baptize with Holy Spirit,
That we must follow? to John or Jesus?
Some Christian Jews of that time, thought that firstly it was necessary to circumcise to the gentile ones soon to be Christian .
To be Christian, we must be baptized with Holy Spirit, only a baptism, says the bible.

Jesus himself was baptized with water. After he came up out of the water, the Holy Spirit came to him.
Paul was baptized with water and there is no doubt that he had the Holy Spirit.
I think that by being baptized with water, you are showing that you believe and are willing to act on things that you do not quite understand and so then (after the baptism) the Holy Spirit will come upon you. (My main basis for this being Jesus himself.)

That's three.
A couple of things I want to point out
Matthew 28:19-20
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
First the italicized words are not in the original text, they were changed. Originally it was written “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in my name”
Had the words “the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” been spoken by Jesus, then the Apostles flat out disobeyed his command, because no place in the Epistles do you read that they baptized in “the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,” it was always in the name of Jesus Christ
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I Cor.12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, ..."
That scripture in its context, is just a statement of truth concerning being baptized in the spirit …. becoming part of the one body
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mark 1:7-8
7And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. .
8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
This as you know is in essence what Christ spoke in Acts 1:5 and what actually took place ten days later

Greetings in the name of Jesus:
Well I can translate and interpret: but one according to God. should read and pray what God is saying and allow the spirit to open up the words unto you.
I would suggest reading the KJV Colossians 2; 9-11 Reading very slowly seeking Gods guidance to discern. and seek to discern as you read.
I would only add some history of the term " Made without hands". is a poetic way of saying Not fleshly or Spiritually done. And God is consistent.
I praise God for your spirit in seeking Gods truths by the word, which is also God. St. John 1;1. I shall pray you continue to wrestle in spirit to find Gods path and truth for you.
I pray no one takes offense in my words. God bless C.F. and all who use it.
