The IFL fantasy football league is back for it's 7th year! As usual, the league is completely free and everyone is welcome to play. The last season or two, we had a strong CF contingent and we hope that trend will continue. Time requirements are only about 10-15 minutes a week.
We are technically a "private" "custom" league, so you will need this information to play:
League ID: 315381
Password: ravens
The URL to sign-up is http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1
Once there, you want to maneuver through signing up to join a private or custom league and enter the league ID and password when prompted. Later you'll be asked to select a team name (Usually people select their favorite city followed by a team nickname of their choosing: i.e. I am the "Baltimore Renegades". We try to avoid real NFL nicknames in favor of our own creations in order to avoid confusion). You need to have a free Yahoo ID to sign up (Usually people already have one for e-mail or Yahoo Messenger or the like).
We've had at least one international member in the past and those living outside the United States are very welcome to play. However, it should be noted that this is a fantasy game based American-style football with helmets and pads and the stats accumulated by real-life NFL players during the course of a season, so be prepared -- it is not the sport where David Beckham tries to kick a ball into a net. :) Just wanted to make sure I threw in that so no one was fooled into signing up thinking it was something entirely different. :)

Awesome! :) Glad to have you on-board. :) Be sure to sign up on the Yahoo website itself as well, though, as I am not able to add teams manually.

Fine with me. :) We usually try to encourage a city name with a nickname, but honestly very few people have actually listened to that advice over the years. :) I try not to get too hung up on it. :)

Pretend I live in the city of Hail if it makes you happy. Nonetheless I am still the repeat champ.

There are still plenty of spots available for anyone else who's interested. :)
Just a quick note to our new team owners: remember to set your draft preferences. We do an auto-draft where the Yahoo computers conduct the draft to determine who gets which players. You can just do nothing and let them use their default list, but most people prefer to fiddle around with the list of which players they prefer (pre-draft rankings) so the computer can pick based on those preferences.

A few brief but important notes on this year's league:
1. If you plan to sign up and haven't yet, or plan to invite a friend to do so, time is limited. The tentative plan is to authorize Yahoo to conduct the auto-draft in the later half of the week (Sometime between as early as Wednesday and as late as Sunday depending on whether we have an even number of teams and so forth, which we need in order to draft) and once it's authorized, we can't add teams, everything is locked in.
2. If you have signed up but have not yet set your pre-draft rankings of players (Which help Yahoo figure out who gets which guys), you probably should do that as soon as is feasible. Those can be edited anytime until the draft is conducted (Which is usually between 0-5 days after it's authorized, if I recall correctly).
3. Make sure Yahoo has an accurate e-mail address for you on file and you authorize it to let you receive league wide messages. I'm sending this announcement out via traditional e-mail and the site and a message forum or two and don't want to repeat it all the next time we have an announcement. :) So just make sure the settings are right for your team on the site and then I only have to click send once to put an e-mail in your box and can be sure it gets to you at least once but no more than once. :)
4. I am thinking about a very slight modification of the rules for 07. Last year, we only used whole points. So if you got, say, 1 point per 25 yards, and your guy had only 13 yards, you got zero points. The change would be that we'd use fractional points, so one could get half a point if someone got half of the yardage required for a point in his category (in the example, the 13 yards would now generate 0.5 pts). If anyone has strong feelings one way or the other on this fairly minor technical issue, please let me know and I'll take it into consideration.
Thanks, and good luck! :)
