Would you like to have a debate subforum for the open discussion of theological questions?

It might work. It's a simple solution. I'll vote "yes" for now.

I saw the word chocolate!
I'll take some!
Wait - I had some hidden in my pantry - must check and see if it is still there.
mmm - it was - just had a little bite.

As far as the concept of a debate forum - I guess that might work. I still think it is good to have an area where those topics can be discussed without being debated by those who wish to do so.
If those topics will simply fit into the halachic and rabinic discussion forum section then perhaps people can post them there if they want to discuss them without debate.
Would people start threads in a debate area or would they be moved there if debate began to occur on them?

The halachic & rabbinic discussion section.....it's in an inconspicuous spot, visually.....it doesn't seem to get used a lot. Maybe if it were moved down more mid-page?

Now if I was a mod, and hot debate was occurring, I'd move it to that section. If it was just mild discussion, I'd probably just let it go.

But I'm a pretty easy-going personality. Except when choc-deprived, naturally! :D

It might show up better if some of the sticky topics were unstickied and moved as well.
It also may help to define it more clearly and to put in the FSR that the hal/rab section is the area in which to discuss those topics without any debate.
Perhaps if that is made more clear then that would help.

I think it's a good idea. What I would like to know is how would it differ from the Formal Debate section? Just that it's in this forum or would there be rule changes as well?

Why does this forum need a sub-forum for debateing when we have the ability and priveledge to debate on the front page forum?

The idea is, rather than have a long list of prohibited topics, to have an area for the discussion of any topic (xcept anti-semitic gbg., of course.)

We are not protected from flaming under other subforums. Yes from general flaming but not from things specific against Jews and torah observance.

Discussion of sub forums is coming. Or an orthodox split.

It's a pretty one-sided poll result, eh?

We'd better seriously consider it!

if the majority is for it, i'll be for it; i don't see any issue's with a sub-forum for debates.

What will constitute what topics and folks are to use the debate forum?

Are all debates to be concealed within this sub-forum?

Ivy

My notion was-- any topic, except blatant anti-Jewish stuff (like we saw here recentlywith the Luther quote), holocaust denial stuff, and "Jewish conspiracy" hoaxes.....

But I don't know what other people think. :)

Except when choc-deprived, naturally! :DWHOA!! the halachic and rabbinic discussion subforum was created specfically to have a place for those of the "rabbinic persuasion" to have a place to discuss these issues without having their discussion hijacked by those against Talmudic authority. It is NOT (pretty please:pray: ) the place to send debates!!! YIKES!

ande instead of calling the subforum under discussion here a Debate forum I'd suggest a title like Open Discussion subforum...

Is chocolate kosher on the sabbath? Is the Sabbath over when the sun sets here or in Israel?
Did you ever use "Horton Sits on an Egg" to teach your children to remember to be faithful on the Sabbath?
:)
I think we need to redefine how we choose subjects to debate. :)

Wow I stepped into quite a confused Forum here in MJ

I think that if an Open Discussion/Debate forum will allow a healthy dissussion on tough issues then it is a good idea. That way no one would need to be excluded in the rest of the forums they adhere to the MJ rules of posting(Whatever those are)

Would people start threads in a debate area or would they be moved there if debate began to occur on them?IMO we need to keep it a positive place where everyone would like to go , not a time out room lol we can have chocolate in there too:yum: also why not make it a place where good debate practices are modeled as well, not formal debate but just having mentors available to model what good Christian debate looks like:thumbsup:, maybe offer "Best Godly Debaters Awards" to those who show the most inspiring level of healthy brotherly love in their debate:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

ande instead of calling the subforum under discussion here a Debate forum I'd suggest a title like Open Discussion subforum...yes yes yes

OK question ....can we use the Israel prophecy and current events sub forum for this debate forum, or should we ask for a new one?
