LAMED - he Shepherd's staff -(Jesus and the Hebrew Alphabet)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lamed is the 12th letter of the Hebrew Alphabet. Twelve is the number of divine or spiritual government (twelve tribes, twelve apostles, etc.)..or maybe, better yet the number of spiritual leadership through discipleship. The letter lamed is a picture of a shepherd's staff. The WORD lamed means to instruct, teach, discipline(goad). As a prefix the letter LAMED is used to mean "to or toward" because the shepherd's staff was hooked and used to guide or pull the sheep "to or toward" some place. Thus the LAMED symbolizes AUTHORITY like the authority of a teacher or instructor......benevelent and corrective, not despotic or evil.
The LAMED and the previous letter Kaf stand in the CENTER of the 22 letters. LAMED stands as the tallest letter at the center. The Jews say there is a missing 23rd letter, which gives the LAMED sole center possision. The next letter is mem. Together the center 3 letters spell MELEK(MLK) which means KING!
The letter LAMED is used for the number 30, the age when levites could begin their service in the KINGdom! 30 is the age of Christ at the beginning of His ministry. It is the age of Joseph when he began to rule under Pharoah in Egypt. (Luke 3:23, Gen 41:46, Num 4:23)
The word meaning "in a thick cloud" has the same germatria as LAMED (74). The VERY first time this word is used is in Exocus 19:9 in reference to Moses TEACHING or INSTRUCTING the people about God's LAW. God does not teach in a way that can be touched, but in the mystery of the "thick cloud" of His Spirit.
The first time the word LAMED is used is in Deut 4:1:
Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach(LAMED) you, for to do [them], that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.
The first word to begin with the letter lamed is in Gen. 1:5, literally: "to the light". That is EXACTLY where the Spirit's teaching leads "TOWARDS", the LIGHT!
Gen 1:5 (Young's literal translation) and God calleth TO THE LIGHT `Day,' and to the darkness He hath called `Night;' and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day one.
