John and I went out there about a month ago.
It was VERY nice!
Lots of neat stores and restaurants.
Lots of monuments and open house tours as well.
Best of all was being out on the battlefield after dark.
So, anyone else been?:D
If so,did you like it?
Would you go back?
Did you have any "ghostly" encounters while you were there?

My husband and I have been three times. We love history. We've been over the battlefields many times. We both have traced back ancestors who fought in the Civil War. I can't say enough about it. It is awesome!!! I'd definately go back.....once the kids are a bit older. PM me if you want to talk more!

My husband and I went a couple of years ago and I had the best time there! (I do like history, though :) .) It was my first time there, although hubby had been there before. This time, he was actually in a bagpipe performance there (apparently there were bagpipers in the war somehow?)
No ghostly encounters, although we stayed in the big hotel downtown that is right next to the "haunted house", lol. (the Jennie Wade house...she is supposed to be the only civilain casualty of the battle...) Had to walk past it every time we went anywhere. I'd most definitely love to go back!!!
Did you make it to the Boyd's Bear place? My souvenir from the trip was a stuffed bear that my husband made for me there (named Lawrence after this guy: http://www.civilwarhome.com/jlchamberlainbio.htm )

Have you seen Gettysburg the movie. There's also a sequel called Gods and Generals.

I live about 40 minutes away and pass through there 2-3X a week, was just through there this morning on my way to Baltimore.
Been to the battlefield several times. The last time I went we actually got on the bus and "did" the tour, and it was well worth it.

Went there a few years back with my youngest son. I really liked it and would go back again. He's been there three times, along with Harper's Ferry, Fort Sumter and Antietam. He's been to Chattanooga, Stone's River, Franklin, The Wilderness, Fredericksburg, Richmond , Jackson's death house and Chickmauga with me.
We went on a ghost tour but I'm sorry to say we saw nothing unusual.

I agree. We went on a car tour where the tour guide actually drives your car and points out all the stuff you want to see. They personize the tour, help you find monuments and any ancestors that may have found in the war. The guy we had was a history teacher at a local school and did the guide job in the summer. It was definately worth it for us!

The college there is my dad's alma mater, I live within an hour of it and go to college within thirty minutes.
So yes, haha, many times. Fun place.
