Birth control is to be used on pigeons in California in an effort to combat the "unmanageable" mess their increasing numbers are causing.

What do you suppose is the Church's stance on this? ;)

Ah! Those dissident birds....

:D

(Seriously, I just hope they don't get side effects from the contraceptives. You know, like nausea and all that...? :)

Obviously those birds are not "open to life". Maybe they like to hang out with dissenting Catholics. You know, birds of a feather and all that. ;)

I thought this thread was about contraception for women. :sorry:

You know, I never understood why it is such a crime for humans to use birth control themselves, but spaying/neutering of animals is OK! And really what we do to our cats is castration, certainly worse than human sterilization! Don't animals have the right to be fruitful and multiply?

I think what we humans do to animals - not so much the castration but the abuse in large farms where pigs, chickens etc. are so packed that they can't move - is far more sinful than the use of any contraceptive. I can't believe that catholics focus on what happens in a married couple's bedroom more than on what animal tragedies are caused by humans. That's so wrong, and it makes me really sad. Even environmentalism triggers the anger of many American catholics (the pope is green though!) - environmentalism is evil because it "claims" to be the new religion. It doesn't claim anything! And what's wrong with being good stewards? Are they afraid that they will be associated with liberals?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Sorry. Pet peeve.

In the Netherlands they are shooting wild pigs for no other reason than that they mess up some people's gardens at night. Grrrrrr. That makes me so mad.

I'm glad that the pigeons get birth control instead of being killed. People should stop fighting nature and should stop caring more about their cars or gardens than about their fellow creatures.

This controversy is really taking wing...we appreciate the caw-caw-phony of comments though!!^_^

Maybe some of us European animal-lovers should move to California. Unfortunately, here in the UK they cannot be bothered with contraception for wild animals. They prefer to cull them. (Is it true that they also do this to street children in Colombia? If so, that would be a definite argument in favour of enforced sterilization in countries such as Colombia.)
