The comments on Erwin's poll are illuminating. Lots of calls for, in essence, a "third way". Lots of relativism. My favorite is the rhetoric about supporting neither the thesis nor the antithesis but a synthesis.
Can it be any clearer than that?
It would be refreshing, however, if these dialecticians came out from under the covers of their dialectic, if those who continually wish to split the difference would tell us at what point they will no longer split the difference, if they would be straight up about it all and simply lay out their final vision.
They have one. Their "progress" and dialectics are used to "move forward" to a specific goal. Or maybe not. Perhaps the dialectic is the goal itself. It's possible. Happened a few times in recent history
