I don't really know if this is right. I think twice a year, we have a party that we call the "Faith Fest" where there is one service, and then we just have a big party. Is this really something that the church should be doing? This party isn't associated with Christianity and is meant to be strictly fun. Is it right to cut out one of our services to do this?

P.S. Last one got rained out.

Are they doing this as an outreach to try to encourage people to join the church?

Partly. But it is also an appreciation for the current members.

we have a yearly church picnic -- i see no problem with it -- if people are going to the one church service and then the party (instead of just skipping church & the party) then it is fine to me, people are still going to church, if they are skippiong church, then the pastor/council/whoever needs to rethink how the party thing will work
