Wow! Erwin seems to be listening and hopefully our votes will matter here.

I honestly don't kn ow how to vote. Of course I want this to be a Christian site, but I also want unbelievers to come here so we can witness to them.

I think the 2 choices were poorly written :(

correct, jim! it needs to be like before, but with an openness to unbelievers (which we had, so that part confuses me?!)

Maybe we should edit Erwin's poll heh? :P

I think that Erwin only sees two choices and they are either Black or White. The black is the status quo and the white is the way it was before.

Does he not realize that we have other colors? The problem as I see is this. Each confession of faith (Lutheran, Catholic, Orthodox, American Evangelicals etc) are not unified and therefore when an unbeliever comes in to one of these tight-knit communities they are getting inundated with different nuances of the important doctrines of the faith. Baptism is not understood the same in all confessions.

The Lutherans, Catholics and Orthodox understand baptism to be a means of grace to salvation. The American Evangelicals see baptism as an expression of faith already imputed in their life.

How can we ever be unified if our doctrinal positions on the sacraments? The American Evangelicals will call these minor issues, but they are not minor. They are important and major because they reflect the empasis that is put on Christ crucified for our sins.

I think I will vote option 2 because the way it is now is a mess and it needs to be cleaned up.

Option 2 should at the very least be reworded. This should be a Christian site, but not a Christian only site as it is worded in that option.

Neither option is well thought out or well written. I don't know whether to vote or not

I think that the best way to convey one's thoughts would be to vote the way that is more closely aligned with your view, and then add a post as caveat. :)

Melethiel
28th July 2007, 01:15 PM
I can't in good conscience vote for either option. I'm hoping that Erwin will actually read the thread and not only look at the poll results, because there have been several good compromises brought up.

porterross
28th July 2007, 02:32 PM
Voting for Option 2 will send a message that things have become too much of a free-for-all and doing anything but getting Christ's message across. This was my thinking.

Given the wording of the two options, it's pretty clear which way Erwin wants things to be. Between two extremes there must be a solution, but as it has been changed, the animosity is at levels I've never seen here. Something has to give.

I posted that I was abstaining.

And then I posted that Erwin's site is full of good intentions but so is the road to hell. I'm pretty sure I posted that around here somewhere, too, but I can't remember where, or if it was in reference to the site changes.

DaSeminarian
28th July 2007, 06:52 PM
I voted for number 2 because I thought at the very least go back to what was there at the beginning of this month and then make a better plan on how to change it. I think Erwin's changes, while a noble idea in some respects, made the forum for some of us a shakier ground than it has been . I think the fear that "atheists" would be running the show was unfounded, but I think more careful planning should have been done before making any changes to what most thought was a good thing.

So I chose #2 for that reason alone. Do I think that we should as Christians be witnessing our faith? By all means, but I don't know if this forum really is the proper medium. Here in TCL we are basicall preaching to the choir most days. We have a comfortable computer clique which I enjoy between classes and homework.

But I don't come here to share my faith, but rather to escape the pressures of the real world and to share my burdens with my friends.

Seems to me he answered his question about option 3, but he seems to dismiss it to readily for something else. I think option 3 should be leave it as is and let us develop it from here as he intended. If he screws with it again we should just leave and go to our alternate forum.

Jim I was reading about this vote in another thread and someone said that the two choices still seemed to point to really one choice. So, yeah, I would say it's poorly worded too. The two choices seemed to be saying basically the same thing to me. It looks to me as if Erwin is having second thoughts now. This happens when you launch a forum overhaul and alot of people have problems with your vision and subsequently don't like you for wanting to change what was basically a good thing prior.

Here's my recommendation for the third choice: "You made your bed, Erwin. Lie in it." There is nothing I hate more than someone who can't be true to their own vision. This re-alignment was supposed to bring Erwin's initial vision for this place to fruition. Now he wants to change it again? Just what is his vision anyway? Anyone? Bueller?

I'm just starting to get really tired of all the changes. It's one thing to say, "okay, things are going to be chaotic while we work out the changes, but this is the direction it's going in". I can deal with that... I've gotten to a rhythm of report working and wiki-reading-and-contribution that keeps me semi-informed and allows me to serve as moderator.

But now they want to change it again? When THIS model hasn't even been going for a month? Puh-lease!! Give it at least six months before you change it all up again. Change management is HARD, and it takes TIME.

And that whole poll thing is so messed up as to not be workable. Neither option "works".

At times I just want to wash my hands of the whole mess. But I vowed I'd stay until January, when they'll kick me out. And I will, craziness or no.

I've given up trying to follow all the announcement threads and wikis...I get various people to give me cliff notes and point me to important-looking posts. I leave the wiki stuff to Tonks and focus on "domestic" administration...other than complaining about/stating intent to defy every other protocol that goes out. :P
It's kind of fun actually...nothing to lose, since we'll all get kicked out come january anyway. :P

I need to travel more often.

All this nonsense is fading into the background. Here I thought that this was important almost 2 weeks ago before I left. Ya get a different perspective after a good break.

It's almost like a computer game where we spin our wheels and get absolutely nothing done or accomplished because it isn't really the important think in this forum and it's wasting time Just a lot of "razzle dazzle"that distracts us from what we could really accomplish on CF if it wasn't for the slight of hand. It's like watch this hand so you don't see what's going on in the other hand

Like DaRev says "ho-hum"and Scott with the socializing.

Let's see, a committee is: a group of the unwilling to determine what no one wants, with no expectation that anything will be done and no time limit set for accomplishing it.

Or something like that... ^_^
