I submit a list of quotes from Christian leaders, bringing to light their thoughts and intentions because so many of the faithful do not challenge their words, they follow because they think 'its the only way' or the only groups that care about them.

It is important for Christians to think for themselves, and always be on guard for those who put themselves in leadership positions to somehow use their influence for their own personal, non-christian reasons.

Why am I posting these? I worry about the state of our faith, instead of Christians chosing not to practice something, or removing themselves from certian secular parts of society they don't like as in the past, some groups are currently in the process of taking control of government and institutionalizing a theocracy, and these quotes are hints of what some want/intend to do.

Power corrupts people very quickly.

Note: these are not fred phelps' kind of quotes or his level of insanity, these are from well known Christian leaders with many many supporters.

"Maybe we need a very small nuke thrown off on Foggy Bottom to shake things up" –Pat Robertson, Suggesting the US State Dept. in DC should be nuked

“The Democrats are the enemy. Wade into them! Spill their blood! Shoot them in the belly!” - Ralph Reed requiring new recruits to memorize passages from the movie “Patton” with the word “Democrats” replacing references to “Nazis”

"Christians, like slaves and soldiers, ask no questions." -Jerry Falwell

“Billy Graham is the chief servant of Satan in America” -Jerry Falwell

(a)"You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with." –Pat Robertson, calling for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez

(b)"Wait a minute, I didn't say 'assassination.' I said our special forces should 'take him out,' and 'take him out' can be a number of things, including kidnapping." –Pat Robertson, clarifying his call to assassinate Hugo Chavez several days later

"(T)he feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians." –Pat Robertson

"When I said during my presidential bid that I would only bring Christians and Jews into the government, I hit a firestorm. `What do you mean?' the media challenged me. `You're not going to bring atheists into the government? How dare you maintain that those who believe in the Judeo Christian values are better qualified to govern America than Hindus and Muslims?' My simple answer is, `Yes, they are.'"--from Pat Robertson's "The New World Order," page 218.

"You say you're supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense. I don't have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist. I can love the people who hold false opinions but I don't have to be nice to them."--Pat Robertson, The 700 Club, January 14, 1991

"The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians." -- Pat Robertson, fundraising letter, 1992

"I don't know that atheists should be considered citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."-- George Bush

"There is no such thing as separation of church and state in the Constitution. It is a lie of the Left and we are not going to take it anymore." --Pat Robertson, November 1993 during an address to the American Center for Law and Justice

"I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over you. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good...Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a Biblical duty, we are called by God, to conquer this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want pluralism."--Randall Terry, Founder of Operation Rescue, The News-Sentinel, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 8-16-93

"Many of those people involved with Adolph Hitler were Satanists, many of them were homosexuals--the two things seem to go together."--Pat Robertson, "The 700 Club," 1/21/93

If Christian people work together, they can succeed during this decade in winning back control of the institutions that have been taken from them over the past 70 years. Expect confrontations that will be not only unpleasant but at times physically bloody.... This decade will not be for the faint of heart, but the resolute. Institutions will be plunged into wrenching change. We will be living through one of the most tumultuous periods of human history. When it is over, I am convinced God's people will emerge victorious.
-- Pat Robertson, Pat Robertson's Perspective, Suggesting Christians should attempt a coup, Oct-Nov 1992

"I hope I live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them. What a happy day that will be!" -Jerry Falwell

"You've got to kill the terrorists before the killing stops. And I'm for the president to chase them all over the world. If it takes 10 years, blow them all away in the name of the Lord." -Jerry Falwell

"Textbooks are Soviet propaganda."- Jerry Falwell

I want to be invisible . . . I paint my face and travel at night. You don't know it's over until you're in a body bag. You don't know until election night."
-Ralph Reed, Director of the Christian Coalition, from the Virginian Pilot and Ledger Star, 11/9/91.

"Christians have an obligation, a mandate, a commission, a holy responsibility to reclaim the land for Jesus Christ -- to have dominion in civil structures, just as in every other aspect of life and godliness. But it is dominion we are after. Not just a voice. It is dominion we are after. Not just influence. It is dominion we are after. Not just equal time. It is dominion we are after. World conquest. That's what Christ has commissioned us to accomplish. We must win the world with the power of the Gospel. And we must never settle for anything less... Thus, Christian politics has as its primary intent the conquest of the land -- of men, families, institutions, bureaucracies, courts, and governments for the Kingdom of Christ." (From The Changing of the Guard: Biblical Principles for Political Action by George Grant, published in 1987 by Dominion Press)

Great post. Robertson and his ilk are dragging Christianity down into the gutter.

Well, most of them were Robertson, and I don't like him. But he was right about where feminism leads to, at very least the spirit behind it.

I think we need to take context into consideration as well as repentance. At least one of those quotes was repented for, so I can't in good conscience bring it up against the man who said it.

Now, I am a social conservative. I would like to see Christianity retake the cultural ground it has lost in the past century. I don't believe the government should be the tool for that, though. I'm for outlawing abortion, but that's because the government has the responsibility to protect life. Most of the rest should be achieved culturally with the government being a neutral player.

What about Religious Political Leaders ?

Beware of all leaders... not just political and/or religious... no matter who or what they lead!
The bible warns us to be careful and fussy about who we follow.

For me, the benchmark is the Word. If I see a leader who is walking the walk... I always try giving them a fair chance. Remember, everybody (even some rich political types that you're not fond of) deserves fair and loving consideration.

For my own part, I notice that people who cause others to feel "convicted" in the spirit often get a lot of bad press. Make certain you're bad feelings towards them don't stem from the "it's just not fair" or jealousy syndromes.

Jesus said you'll KNOW they are Mine by their love for one another. Check THAT out in your leaders!

Greetings in the Name of Jesus:

The Original poster, makes many valued points and many truths: but I see not the balance one needs for a correct conclusion of truth: Now it is true Christians are part of the problem; but in most Cases are working more towards solutions then causing the problems: and Those who generalize to conclude Christians are the problems of society; are blinded by their anti Christian Bias.

Christianity with all its falsehoods of denominations and bigotry's of men and personal racism of individuals: should not cover or diminish the overall truths and benefits of Christianity in daily Life and in Society: One can see these differences in Societies over time that were absent this Christian rooted Morality: I see not mass immigration to Non Christian societies.

Now pointing out the falsehoods and evils of Christian leaders is one of the true signs of Christian societal benefits: that this is even allowed to be done: say something like this in Islamic society, and your life shall be short.

Pat Robertson can be over zealous, as most all people can be at times. Forgiveness is the true traits of faith based Christians. Some times Mr. Robertson seems to forget this.

I pray my words do not offend any. And God bless C.F. and all who use it.

Most of the quotes were from Pat Robertson. In my opinion he get carried away with his rhetoric far too often. The end result is that Christianity gets a bad name because of his rants.

Having said that, one must also consider the context, the audience to whom the comments were made, etc.

In many cases I agree with at least the underlying motive for such statements. For example, have you noticed what is passing for education in our country? Major universities, and I understand some high schools, are now providing RESERVED SPACE, FACILITIES AND TIME FOR MUSLIM STUDENTS.

Consider that in many jurisdictions students are prevented from bring a bible to school. I know that is against the law, but the school admin is doing it anyway.

Teachers assign composition writings, with the subject left to the student's choice. Students who write about Christ are given failing grades based on whatever the idiot teacher seems to believe about the phony excuse, "Separation of church and state".

Some 50 million babies have been murdered in this country alone based on a "constitutional right" that does not exist. That being the so-called right to privacy. Never appears in the document.

Our politicians are, for the most part, a bunch of corrupt, lazy, incompetent fools who did not forget the content of their oath to serve and protect the constitution of this country. I say the did not forget, because you cannot forget something you never really knew.

They mouth the words because that is what it takes to get into the position of power that the seek, and then abuse once they are there.

Classic example? Recent bill sent to the whitehouse for signature was to fund some part of government operations. It included ONE THOUSAND, SEVEN HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SIX EARMARKS. Some of them going to a company owned by the elected official that put them into the bill.

Yes, so-called Christians make wild statements and act in unChristian ways. It is sad, but true. It damages the real purpose and actions of legitimate Christians.

As others have said, (not to mention the bible) we must evaluate the words and actions of those who would lead us, whether they are church leaders or politicians.

Those who advocate unbiblical actions and concepts should be removed from their offices. That does not mean they should be assassinated, simply impeached or voted out.

I have found that way too many people simply complain about things and then go back to sleep. I personally have taken issue with proposed actions on the part of our pastor and when I explained my rationale, he changed his approach rather than damage the church.

If you disagree with your local pastor, tell him why and discuss it. Perhaps you misunderstand him or his purpose.

lol..are we fighting extremism with extremism? lol

but yeah, i agree with the notion that politics is getting too much inside our churches. making christ and the bible the head and guide of our churches will cure such issues.

Looking on those quotes, some of these people seem to have forgotten an important detail:

WE ARE INCAPABLE OF CONVERTING AS MUCH PEOPLE AS THEY ARE SAYING WE SHOULD.

It is NEVER going to happen. Ever. The end of the world will happen when we run out of people to successfully convert! The Bible says it clearly - not everyone will be saved.

And the way these people act, it looks like they need to start reading their Bible again. -_-

You can say whatever you want . You seem to imply that conservative christians are in power currently . Well , his power is in check . While I supported some of his ideas , he has gone way off on others .

Given that the writers of the Constitution rebelled against a tyrant , they put things in place to help prevent such a person from having too much power . Of course , if their party also gains power in other branches , they can act as one .
