Hi Michie, most of us are moderates here, but we identify with those that are liberal as brothers and sisters, not those to be scorned. I hate labels too.
Glad to have you here:)

The full weight of that just hit me and made me very sad. Moderate catholics are seemingly borderline heterodox?!
To quote Homer: I feel like I'm living in a looney bin!

I'm far from borderline heterodox. I obey & follow what I signed up for. It would be disingenuous to do otherwise.

Of course it is. This sub-forum was created to give a voice to what Catholics are talking about in real life!! Catholics are not suppressed...the theology is very rigorous ...but Catholics are not potted plants!! They are inquiring and thoughtful and don't need to be muzzled by forum specific rules on a message board!!

Well as long as this does not imply that those that follow Church teachings are somehow vegetative. ^_^
Some folks seem to think so.

I feel just the opposite...I think that the Church's teachings are so vital and important as to be worth of inquiry and scrutiny- http://webelieve.cc/
I am unimpressed by my detractors who call me a "Catholic in name only" or ask me "why don't do just go away and become Episcopal?" (verbatum last week from another site). They might have influenced me 5 years ago when I was very fragile in my faith. But armed with the resolve that I must continually educate myself about the Church's teachings, be frank about what would appear as "dissent" when I am not withholding assent, I am working toward either changing my views about my problems areas or actively working to change our Church.

Well I'm glad you clarified. Studying the teachings of the Church makes things clearer for me. It takes work & an extraordinary amount of thinking to understand why you follow the teachings of the Church.
It definitely is not the easy way.
Just like the Pope's latest announcement about salvation outside the Church. It was misconstrued in the media. The Catechism states what we believe & why. And it does not state what the headlines implied.
Does that mean I always agree with everything? No. But it does mean as a matter of honor you work within the set of rules & boundries that you agreed upon when becoming Catholic Christian. I'm a convert so it really is a matter of honor to work within those boundries or it really makes those vows taken upon entering the Church a lie.

About potted plants: in the original Harry Potter books the word "pot plants" is used (in herbology context), but for the American version that was changed to "potted plants" to avoid confusion. :D
Just wanted to share that, made me laugh when I first heard it. :sorry:

I am sooo out of the 'Harry Potter' loop it's ridiculous. I haven't a clue.
I was thinking more along the line of 'robotic vegetable people!'

Sorry! I'm in a very Harry mood since the last book came out. In the UK the word pot plants refers to plants in pots, but in the US it refers to marijuana plants - so therefore in the US version it was changed to avoid confusion, because the author just meant plants in pots. :D
(I don't see people as plants.)

nor Catholics I assume!!! We are as thrilled about inquiry and questioning in our Church as the respite we all encounter having known that she wants the inquiry, she wants the universal "Church" to be a guiding light!!
