All right folks. After a flurry of reports on LogonLalein, the staff has agreed to institute a 2-week FSB on his account for this forum. This means that he is not permitted to post ANYTHING on this forum until August 7, 2007 at 7:30 PM EDT. If he does, please report him and it will be taken care of.
Additionally, I have removed many of the offending posts, and as a result, there were a fair number of other posts that needed to be removed as well.
For future reference, I would ask that you either report the offender and ignore him to allow staff to deal with them, or we can let you duke it out for yourself, if that's what you want, but not both.
The quickest way to assure that your reports are addressed quickly is to simply report the poster, and then DO NOT respond to the post you've reported. This multiplies the workload of the staff many times over, and is not conducive to arriving at a quick resolution. Indeed, as I read through the threads during cleanup, I felt as though there were a fair number of other posts responding to LL that were out of line. You should understand that someone breaking your rules does NOT give you license to break the rules also.
Thanks for your patience and understanding. This is only my second day back on staff and, I'm STILL getting caught up. I'll try to respond quicker in the future.

Question:
Pete, can you see who reports posts, or is that anonymous from your end as well?
Because... some of us may have chosen to confront LL and not report him, while others of us chose to report and not confront..... Unless we have a pre-response pow-wow, we (as a group) can hardly coordinate whether we're going to report or confront.

I think there were times I was guilty of doing both. For that, I apologize.
Maybe the person who reports could just quote the post that was reported and state that it had been reported. Then the others know not to continue on with the debate. If the member that was reported responds at that point, we can handle dependant upon the response.
If repentant, we can move forward. If unrepentant, it can be reported (without reposting the report like the first time). This would remove the arguing, and create less work for the moderators.
How does that sound?

Very interesting idea.
It used to be a rule on CF that members weren't allowed to accuse other members of rule violations in the public forums but had to use the report function instead. I don't know the status of that rule right now...
But since the reports are all public now... I can see how this will be effective and probably save the mods a ton of time.
Pete, what is the protocol on that from staff end? Can a sub-forum create rules re: reporting protocol like this?

As I think on this more, I don't know if that would work in all cases. What one might find as a reportable action, might not be to another person. Thus it will cause another argument in an argument already happening. That could only compound the problem.

Yes... and it just occurred to me that one person may still just want to have it out with the reported member and it some cases I can see how it would be more beneficial.
Ah well... It was a good idea while it lasted. ;)

Staff can see everyone that is reporting, and also who makes all comments in the report threads.
I understand that some chose to confront LL while others reported him, and you are correct that there is little you can do to prevent that from happening (although you can check the reports forums, which many are doing now), but what I am saying is when there are responses, they also have to be cleaned up when a post is deleted, and this does not help assure that the situation is dealt with swiftly.

It seems silly to not allow people to accuse others of rule violations, since the report threads are open now. But I don't know the official stance of the staff.
Lemme check on that and I'll get back to you.... after lunch...

I know I was guilty of fighting back, and hindsight is a wonderful thing,
But I think if anyone posts in a manner that speaks of causing trouble then we should ignore their post as answering back only causes more strife and bitterness and we don't want to cause a fellow brother/sister to stumble or fall now.

Great idea, really great idea, we have to add self control to our lives anyway ... this is a great place to practice it.

I did too sumo ... I could spend days (months) on his sticky about all of the good threads SF/PC has had in the last two years or so.
I couldn't understand how the battle went from in here out to the general assembly. He must of just been having an off day.
I hope he becomes our best friend in the end ...
