View Full Version : Conservative Christian Voting Icon Not to Replace Denominational Icon!

This new poll is to reassure membership here that the proposal of a SECOND icon to identify members as Conservative Christians will NOT replace denominational icons. It would be in ADDITION to the denominational icon but would NOT replace it.

The purpose of this additional icon is to give voting rights to this Congregation. It would eliminate decisions being overrun by those who are not in agreement with our Statement of Beliefs.

I would like to suggest that this type of Icon cannot be changed as a simple matter, but would require a member to request their voting icon to be changed and voted upon by current membership.

Please comment in this thread. Choices are Yes or No only.

Vote Yes, if you are comfortable with this idea as it is written in the OP. Vote No if you believe that this idea needs more work or if you completely disagree with the idea of a Second Icon for voting purposes.

I have too many questions to be able to vote so definitively this soon, sis.

For example, we don't even have our final wiki in place, so how do we know who does and doesn't agree?

And who would be entitled to an icon by rights? Initially, I mean. Anyone who wants one? Because if so this could still be turned into a different sort of forum than was planned...

Concerns noted. You should vote no. :)

 So this is just for voting yes? Not for discussing?

Sorry to pick away... but I think an icon is a good idea, so if I vote no, what am I actually voting no to?

If you vote no, you are only voting no to the way the icon is written. You should surely state your support for the idea, but indicate your concerns just as you are doing. This is only a tool. It is in no way binding one way or the other.

I am probably being pre-emptive with this, but as I see it, some kind of control needs to be put into place. We are going to have serious arguments over who should or should not influence the rule making if we do not.

Lisa I can't support that idea while it would protect us somewhat from outside groups I think it would leave us to vulnerable to iternal conflicts. My main fear is that we will end up with the members blocking people from joining because there Catholic, Baptist, Fundie etc. and not because there a pagan or a liberal. My other concern is issue voting people will label others liberal and bar them for membership because they find out on one single issue they don't fall lockstep into what is consider Conservative. Finally this seems like very judgemental way to do this and while I agree safeguards are need in order to assure that Conservative Christians
playing judge and jury people this isn't a very Christ like attitude.

That is fair CP. There has only been one incident afterall. Perhaps, it is better to just let the mods take care of issues when they arise.

Well Lisa I just this we should wait on this a little and if it becomes a large problem I think a review board to judge there action after have made so many post or been here so long would be he way to go. Of course it would need to have caps in place of how many members from each denomation can serve in order to ensure fairness.

Excellent idea! Let's table this for now. We will see how it goes.

Perhaps our efforts would be better served by getting our rules in place, more mods voted in, and getting the subforum for debate.

I wouldn't support it since I don't see the need to show an icon to reprent I'm a conservative. Not only that but I don't know how that would affect my participation as a fundie as well. I consider myself both a fundie and conservative.
