Hello all...
In order to get a better idea of who would like to be apart of this forum, perhaps we should sign in. :)
This way we will know if everyone has been represented when it comes to polls etc.
So if you consider yourself a Conservative Christian and would like to be a member of this forum, please post here in this thread!
Please DO NOT post here if you do not want to be apart of this area.
Thank you!
Dawn
Also...if you would like to check out the wiki to see our rules and guidelines so far, here's a link (http://www.christianforums.com/t5716860-wiki-conservative-christians-forum.html).

I will also want to pariticipate in this forum. I've been saved since I was only 13 in the year of 1978, and now my home church is in Abilene, Texas. Its an independent fundamental baptist church named Trinity Baptist Church and its a long time part of the community of Abilene. The rest of the information I am willing to publically share on a forum can be found at http://360.yahoo.com/cyberengland

I like it here, and I seem to fit in reasonably well, so I guess I'll consider myself a member for now. Whether I'm conservative enough by the final definition remains to be seen. On the basis of theological orthodoxy I probably am, as some 90% of my theology is identical to that of C.S. Lewis... who I believe is generally accepted as a conservative though not a fundamentalist. Politically I'm a conservative libertarian -- there's not much to differentiate me from Barry Goldwater or Milton Friedman, both heroes of mine. If one has to be a social conservative, that I'm not, so if that's required I'll excuse myself when the time comes.

I don't really know the benefits of signing up, but if a necessity to continue to post, then put my name down.
I don't know whether you'd consider me Conservative or (non scarey!) Fundamentalist - I agree with the Conservative "rules" but am certainly more sola scriptura, and literalist - but it seems I would still fit in here within the boundaries.
As others have said, this won't be my "home" congregation. I like reading here, the fundie forum, but also my home forum would be my denominational one where I see others here post too :)
So, sign me up please as a "non home" member! :)

I agree!
Hey, I have another suggestion. Someone said that at some point, open membership will change so that a new member will have to have support from three current members. My suggestion is to leave open membership like it is until the end of the year. Then, in 2008, it will become closed with the three member support rule. What do y'all think about that?

I think that might be too long of a period of time. How about something shorter like a few months?

Well, there are five months left in the year. Would you say three months is more reasonable? That would be around November 1st.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to these boards, but would like to participate in discussions with other Conservative Christians as I consider myself to be one. I don't know if this will be my "home" congregation as I am still "church-shopping" right now, but I highly doubt my societal views are going to change when I pick a church!
[Just so I'm clear, are we talking Conservative as in the way we view religion, i.e. Fundamentalist, or Conservative as is defined within political society (i.e. Pro-Life, "Right-Leaning")? I am definitely "conservative" in my political views, but not really a fundamentalist.]
OK, now I'm sufficiently confused! LOL Just looking for a place to fit in. :)

There seems to be some variation on to what degree politics plays into the definition of "conservative," especially because different countries will have different norms and such for Christians who are theologically conservative. I would venture to say that most of us are talking about theology, though, not what political party you vote for. I think most of us would agree that we're called to exercise our Christian values in public life, but we might disagree on how exactly we'd go about doing that. Welcome!

I've put the full list in the sticky, so I think we need to say that from now on, people need to post here, and then they can be added to the members list, but all of us just copying and pasting the list again and again is meaning we all have a different list :swoon:

Do you know how I get my list? I click on the "replys" number and up comes this list of all the people who have posted in it. That's why it's important that everyone sign in here. It's the easiest, and most accurate way to do it IMO.

I do think people need to sign in in order to become a member, and anyone who hasn't will need to. We can add that to the sticky for people to read, and point them to the sign in thread. That would work, I think?

We haven't really decided when to close the sign in. There were a couple of us talking about leaving it open for about 3 months, and then, going to the current member nomination suggestion as listed in our wiki statement of beliefs...
Anyone else know how we are going to do this?

You were asked because you voted in one of the polls in this forum. If your not sure you a conservative, check out our wiki (http://www.christianforums.com/t5716860-wiki-conservative-christians-forum.html) and see if you see yourself fitting in here.

Ive never met a fundamentalist that wasnt conservative in fact most are ultra conservative. Are there going to be investigations of members just to belong to a congregational forum now since there arent for christian icons?
I cannot see how anyone could object to that but do the same with this.

PeaceLover02 and a liberal, but I forget who that was. There was also some questioning of a fundamentalist early on. No, I do not have thread links, but others here would remember what I am talking about.
The whole point is to make sure that this is a Conservative area not liberal, and not fundamentalist. There is a much finer line between Conservatives and Fundamentalists, but it is there. They are self-defined in their Statement of Beliefs as Militant Orthodoxy. We are not exactly militant over here, and we also hold with Tradition alongside Scripture, not equal, but considered valid.

Please point me to protocol about questioning members about their conservatism if they are fundamentalists. Thanks.

Well, like another poster said, I've never heard of a Fundamentalist that wasn't conservative. And like she said, Fundamentalists are the conservative conservatives.
Was there anything not conservative in my posts?? If you have an actual issue with me, I'd like to know what it is. Further, I've read the wiki, and according to your own rules, I am "conservative". So I'm curious as to what you might seem to think disqualifies me being a member here.

Lisa, this kind of comment is exactly why I haven't bothered to join in on threads in this forum as of yet (and I am sincerely hoping things will improve so that I can at some point in the future, which is why I've joined the voting list). It needs some serious adjusting before Fundamentalists can feel even remotely welcome around here.
Fundies are conservative. It's a given. Not all Conservatives are Fundamentalists, of course. We are basically a reformed branch of Conservative. Liberals however, by definition cannot be Liberal AND Conservative. THAT is the distinction. Fundamentalists are not just the "other side" of the spectrum from the Liberals.
We are comfortable with the word militant in our statement because this is a spiritual war that Christians are engaged in. We are Christian soldiers and we stand strong for God's truth. Please try to understand this is NOT a bad thing.
In addition, for a Fundamentalist to hold to Sola Scriptura makes us no less Conservative than a Catholic holding to Tradition. This may be a point of contention between the two at times, but perhaps setting some ground rules regarding future debates would be better than just alienating the sola camp? Currently, the traditionalists are more than welcome to reject sola, but the sola group is not allowed to reject the traditionalist view. There's something wrong with that. Perhaps instead of such a generalized statement, it would be better to provide the two distinctions as allowed in here, but both are not always shared by everyone. Build a salad bowl instead of a melting pot?
Now, if you disagree with what I am saying here, perhaps it is time to adjust the Conservative statement to reject all Fundies from joining this forum and be done with it. But if you agree with what I'm saying, please consider revising your generalizations/judgements on us in the future, and perhaps some of us will feel be able to find fellowship around here without being attacked for our beliefs.
I realize that early on in this forum some Fundamentalists made some pretty strong statements and perhaps that ruffled some feathers or whatever. Fundies can come across pretty strong at times but, you know what, so can Conservatives!!! I'm tired of being the bad guy/second class citizen because of gross generalizations that are being made here. I'd expect this sort of treatment in the Liberal forum (and in pretty much all ther forums these days), but not here. Fundies are being given a bad rap by those they should be most closely aligned with, and it's just plain pathetic, if you ask me. Is it possible to improve this situation, or am I asking too much?

If I may interject a thought here for you guys. :)
I don't believe Lisa is saying your not allowed to be a member if your views favor Fundamentalism. You two are more than welcome here. :)
She is referring to some issues we had early on in this forum concerning the definition of what being a Conservative is. Seems we all have different thoughts on that...which is to be expected. And since not all of us here in the CC forum are Fundamentalists, we want to be careful to make the distinction between the two. As she said, "all fundamentalists are conservative, but not all conservatives are fundamentalists".
So XianJedi (love that name btw!), as you have said, you are a Conservative and also a Fundamentalist. But how would you define the difference between the two? Nothing in your answer will exclude you from being a member here. :)

There have been numerous rude comments thrown at Fundies around here and you guys all seem to be just fine with that, even justified in it. I don't expect this forum to be a Fundamentalist forum of course, but I had hoped that Fundies would be welcomed and treated as equals in this family. I've not seen much evidence of that happening so far. The general attitude is "we'll let you Fundies in here if you don't act like Fundies while you're here", as if we aren't truly Conservative, and don't really belong here.

LisaPlease understand, it's not the manner in which you asked the question, it's the spirit of the question itself that concerns me (also considering the context of comments you've made elsewhere in this forum). I'm holding you a little more accountable for this because you are taking on a leadership role here. You and I have always gotten along fine on CF. And please understand this is not an attack on you personally.
How you treat Fundamentalists here has farther reaching effects than you may realize. You are setting a pace. If you agree with other member's judgements on us, you are alienating us. That's how it comes across. I'm not alone in feeling this. I've recieved a number of comments from other Fundies who feel they must "remain in the closet" if they want to participate here. So most just don't bother even joining at all. And that's a shame because they're lovely people who could add some wonderful fellowship to this forum.
All I'm asking is that we not be judged as a whole by some pre-conceived notion. (I do realize that Fundies are very poorly represented in the media, and that there are some wacko's who sadly, and inaccurately claim the name of Fundamentalist. But they DO NOT repsesent true Fundamentalism). Let our posts speak for us as individuals. We all must agree with the Conservative statement to post here, and once that is finalized it will stand as your filter for new members. But if there is a specific thing about Fundies that you have a problem with, let's get that out in the open so it can be dealt with. Sound fair?

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me I just want to be able to have a safe place to come and fellowship. To talk about the Lord and His goodness. A good healthy debate isn't bad either, though I'm not much for that. Thank you for your thoughts and I hope we can begin to unite together in Christ.

I appreciate that.
My concerns arose early in the Conservative Christians forum development. We had one person here who was hotly contesting the wording of our Statement of Beliefs. They wanted to exclude traditions from our statement which would have eliminated many Catholics and Orthodox.
Second, I am being more pro-active about membership now because when I do assume a leadership position here, I would prefer to to not see too many reports and upset members.
I am not looking to exclude anyone. I am simply trying to insure a peaceful environment here.
Finally, I not only live in the Bible Belt, but I am very closely affiliated with the inner circle of some very powerful fundamentalists. I do know the fanatacism of which I am opposing. Now, that is a broad brush, and I am not attempting to paint anyone here with that. Within any denomination, congregation, or membership, there will always be outliers.
However, just as in the case of the liberal voter, our policies and rules are affected by those members who may or may not wholly agree with our Statement of Beliefs. So, I am only trying to eliminate problems before they are started.
It would not be fair for someone to come in and add to our wiki stating that all war is unjust when that really does not represent the Conservative viewpoint. Nor would it be fair for someone to vote against including Tradition in our statement because they have a bias against Catholics and Orthodox.
Do you understand where I am going? The easiest thing for me to do as a future mod is to sit back and wait to see how things go. Yet, rules can be affected by those who do not really belong here, and those are rules that I will be expected to uphold. So, I do have a stake in what rules and even what members I will be moderating.
I simply think that it is wise to ask questions in the spirit of insuring the peace of this forum.

Thank you for your thoughtful answer, Lisa. It sounds like you've basically had to adapt a defense mode, and that has meant that toes have been stepped on in the process. I understand your concern with extremest "Fundamentalists". The groups who cling to all sorts of legalism and harsh judgement without showing love or grace really upset me as well. That is not true Fundamentalism. So I guess, to a degree, it's become a cause of mine to properly educate people about what Fundamentalism truly is.
Frankly, I have to deal with the opposite problem where I live, surrounded by liberals, extreme liberals, and (well you get the point). So I probably over compensate at times defending against that as well.
And don't get me wrong, I'm all for questions. New members will have to be asked them. I agree with that policy. I would just like to see less negative attitude towards us as a whole.

Not at all. I am merely pointing out that there is a difference between the two groups.
By denomination, I am a Fundamentalist myself. However, I suppose the label in of itself is a trigger for me.
Let me ask you this and I am sincerely wanting your opinion and advice as well as all other members here.
What SHOULD the right approach be?
Should we question new members? Should we wait until we see offense or posts that are not in line with our standard beliefs?
What is the proper way to go about this or should we even try to filter for liberalism or fanatical fundamentalism?

Those are very important questions. Yes, I do like the question process for new members, as I've stated. I think that is why the Conservative statement must be the the final filter. (If a prospective new member doesn't agree with it, they aren't going to become a new member). I would just like to see these questions not become a way to filter out or demoralize the Fundies.
I know it's hard to use a statement that is still in flux to make these decisions. At the moment I could easily see it changing in such a way that Fundamentalists are totally excluded. That's still a possibility. I hope it doesn't go that way though. But once that's defined and finalized, I think your job will be made much easier because you can stand on that.
As for the phrase "fanatical fundamentalism", I think that could be a very helpful term and it may need to be used more often. That way there is a clear defining line between those who are 'extremest, legalistic, and harsh', and those who are 'just plain old Fundamentalist'. For the purpose of definition, this could be emensely helpful, and would get rid of this rift between true Fundies and Conservatives here. What do you think?
(We have not set up that defining line in the Fundamentalist forum, and maybe that's why it's as small as it is. But I am glad to say the core group there has found many wonderful ways to fellowship in grace and love even if there is strong disagreement on various issues).
One more note, perhaps when new membership applications get going, it might be a good idea to devise a list of standard questions for all new applicants, with the Conservative statement as the backbone for those questions. Just a thought.

But WHICH new members are getting questioned? If you are gonna question people, question EVERYONE. (Was any non-fundamentalist questioned yet? - not an accusation, honestly asking)
So far, I haven't seen ONE reason that I was questioned other than "Fundamentalist" was in my profile. The first person who asked mentioned they read my posts, but when I asked what was non-conservative about them, there was no reply.
So, if the people here are going to just act like, "oh, profile says "Fundie", have to screen him first", that's just wrong. Because, intentional or not, you are sending the message that Fundamentalists can't be trusted and have to be watched.
There should be no "screening" necessary here. You have your rules stated in the wiki. As long as someone upholds those rules, leave them alone. The preemptive defenses jumping up seem more like witch hunt behavior than congregational community.

This Forum Affirms:
The Holy Scriptures are inspired, the written Word of God. Scripture is revelation from God given for the instruction of his people in faith, morals, and doctrine. The revelation of scripture is completely reliable and authoritative.
The minimum standard of doctrinal belief in order for a person to be considered a Christian is accurately contained within the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds. The doctrines contained within these creeds are the bare essentials upon which Christians must agree. It is understood, however, that even within the creeds there are some differences of interpretation. Specifically, it is allowed in this forum that the term “Catholic Church” can be understood to mean the universal, invisible body of which all Christians are members. The phrase “one baptism for the forgiveness of sins” can be understood in a symbolic sense.
Our Christian faith can not be separated from our views on politics and society, or any other area of life. The Conservative Christian worldview holds the following values and views to be necessary expressions of Christian morality based upon Holy Scripture and the established teachings of the Christian Church.
The sanctity of human life. Physical life begins at conception and ends when the body can no longer naturally sustain itself. Human life can not be ended prematurely without just cause and just authority to do so. This includes most cases of abortion and euthanasia.
Sexual morality is a fundamental requirement of Christian moral teaching. The Scriptures repeatedly address the topic of sexual morality as a necessary part of our obedience to God and right living. Sexually moral behavior, in Scripture, and in the established teachings of the Church is held to be limited to sex between a husband and his wife. All other sexual activities fall under the head
