Hey, everyone. I could really use some help in Conservative Christians (http://www.christianforums.com/f791). It's a new congregational forum, and so far I'm the only mod there.
We have three reports from there currently, and I would like some assistance with them:
http://www.christianforums.com/t5734964
http://www.christianforums.com/t5738290
http://www.christianforums.com/t5738391-conservative-christians-raggedrobin-07-20-2007.html#post36901509
I don't want to be the only one making decisions on these. I would appreciate any time that anyone can spare to give your input. (The RaggedRobin one has pretty much resolved itself, but the others may not be so simple.)

A few more reports have come in. Things are getting pretty heated there.

I just looked at the first report and will look at others too. As for the first report, I can see where that comment may not be appreciated, but here is my thought on it. Ask for an RFE. I don't think it warrents a staff edit, and that is because:
1. There is no longer a wanring system, what has been said can not be taken back. I think people really need to start fighting their own battles so to speak, as long as it doesn't turn into using abusive language and things really bad.
2. Here is a new idea of mine, we use the reports to advice us of a problem, but we post what ever actiion or advice we request right in the thread. If you look at this and think on it, its really the way Erwin had things laid out in the first place and the only way people will ever start taking resoncibility for what they write. They need to be adminished for what they do by the gerneral public, not staff.
We should be there only to make sure this has been accomplished and peace has been restored.
I'm going to think about this some more, and I fully realize that it won't work in all cases, but I think its worth a try. This is of course my idea, so by all means please voice your thoughts. After we discuss this a little, I would like to post this in the conference room and see some more discussion.

I think it's a good idea, Jim. Now that everything is public, and we have no warnings, why not give people advice right in the report threads? We may have to PM them with a link, though, because I'm sure not everyone checks reports. I agree that we should encourage people to take responsibility for their own actions and maybe try to keep each other in line more rather than depending on us to police everything.

Good thoughts there, you two. I can think of a couple of reports we have in SF that would be eminently suitable for that approach right now ...... um, hang on ......... I'm supposed to be on leave! :tutu:

I absolutely LOVE IT!!! and also I bet Erwin could code it so that the one being reported could get an automated messgae that they have a report on them so thay can see it right away....also the automated message that the reporter gets saying we are working on it and when its done wouldnt need to be given anymore because they know they made the report and can see when it is done so the only automated messages needed would be to the one being reported and us....Lets get this Idea out right away....oh Jim is out all day hmmmmm I will send it to Ron, Constance and Erwin then.....

I think so as well... perhaps discuss in your subforum wiki, and give it a go. If it works well, we could then see about expanding on it, and getting Erwin involved to do some coding.

Sending a PM to the person being reported is very easily coded in, so let me know if you really want this. A troll whose post gets reported 50 times may get 50 PMs though. :)

i see that all these reports have now been archived so i can't really help.:sorry:
if i had seen it earlier my question on the second report would have been the appropriateness of nyj to be seen as actively involved in campaigning for the polls, given his position oin staff. that might be a protocol issue, however.

Thanks anyway. :)
If anyone would like to help in Conservative Christians, we could still use some more mods there. Ask Tishri if you're interested.
