Going to Promise Keepers in Nashville this Saturday with one of the youth leaders, Jason. I told him I was gay, and he talked to me a bit (and insists of bringing me out of it). Then he invited me here. I don't necessarily want to go, but, I'm going. :P

Some sort of evangelical men's thing.

I've heard of them, but do not know much about them (probably 'cause I'm female). lol :)

Not sure if it's Bapticostal or Pentaholy.

I didn't realize it was still around. I thought it had broken up over financial troubles. There hasn't been a rally around here in a long time.

Hey, Justin, remember what I said about calling yourself 'gay'! :)

I was involved in a secular equivalent to PK (so have an inkling what goes on there). It can have good things, and I wouldn't say 'don't go', but keep in mind that evangelicalism, while an honorable attempt to seek Christ, has nothing on the Orthodox Faith. (Accept no substitutes!)

If you can ask a priest that you are in contact with, that would be the best guidance.

The basic premise of the Promise Keepers is good.....that men lead holy lives dedicated to God and their families and that they be spiritual leaders within their respective family.

Many problems exist in that it becomes a sort of pentecostal HIGH-FIVE session such that it will PUMP YOU UP!

So, yes it is thoroughly Protestant, but seeks the good and the right in a typical late 20th century Protestant fashion.

Forgive me.

Alright! Now can we not only bash those that seem similar to Roman Catholics, but we can do while saying it defends our families while at the same time... FEELING GOOD ABOUT IT! YEEEEHOOO!

And now I step back into character.:P

I was trying to be balanced in both praise and concern for the movement. I hope I did not mislead.

And I was being sarcastic yet critical.

Sorry.

Forgive me. I had difficulty understanding your post....but alas, I am dense, and often do not get the joke~! Just ask my wife and kids (both of whom are your age!!!!)/ ;) (well my wife is not your age, but both of my kids are!!!!)

No harm done friend.

As one who came from the fundigelical movement, I can be overly sensitive to misunderstanding. So, please forgive me.

I hope your wife is not my age, that would be borderline incest!

Don't worry, my somewhat satirical humor is often misunderstood.

All is forgiven.

Well, technically, it would not necessarily be incest unless she was related to me, but it could be considered "cradle robbing", or some such other thing! ;)

By the way, back in the day Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old cousin when he was in his 20's......now that is both incent and cradle robbing!

Forgive me for placing that image into anyone's mind!

And of course, I meant "incest" and not "incent" though I am sure he had some "incentive" to do what he did.

BTW, if you do not know who Jerry Lee Lewis was, google him....

"Goodness gracious great balls of fire!"

Actually, PK doesn't really care which church a guy goes to. Plenty of Catholics have attended those rallies, too. PK takes the attitude of "all Christians welcome". Their focus is on building up Christian men and Christian families, as Clem said. They just do it in "rah rah" Protestant fashion.

Yes, thank you Mary, I did not intend to imply that it was limited to Protestants. You are correct in that it is open to anyone.....but you are also correct in the methodology. ;)

Forgive me.

Well. It was enlightening. The music was expected, but I liked it (just not for worship as they were using it). The had a hilarious fundamentalist comedian. It was huge with thousands of people. I heard something I had never heard before. I'm about to make a thread on it.

You didn't imply that . . . I was just trying to educate EC a little more about them. :)
