Since the powers that be have "decided" we shall only have a sub-forum (and our friends at WWMC allow us here) I propose we name this sub-forum something besides "liberal catholics".
Or not?

I think it is a good start Jason...if there is no offense to Old Catholics . Thank you so much for your support and I consider you a stalwart brother in Christ. Many congregations have been started in the basement and I am happy to know you.

Congratulations on your new forum!
Regarding the name - probably the one you have is best as it is self-explanatory.
I mean, if you were to name it after a liberal cardinal such as Basil Hume, chances are some people over the pond would not know who he was. (A great man, by the way. Shame he was not made Pope.)

I believe we plan on allowing anyone here. I suspect that this will be a forum for those people in Apostolic Churches (ie. Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Anglican, Old Catholic) who wish to discuss issues that may be scandalous in the traditional forums.
So all are welcome. As Fr. Rick at St. Pauls likes to say: "This is the Lord's Table, all are welcome to receive."
Ohh...maybe we can call the forum: "The Lord's Table: Liberal Catholics." ??

My testament is here:

I've put it in another thread in this forum.
When you write the rules, please don't exclude people like me (i.e. former Roman Catholics who became Anglican Catholics) from debating in this forum. I feel that I understand people in this forum more than in the Anglican forum as I was a Roman Catholic for so much of my life.

April: this sub-forum was created for folks like you- for lapsed Catholics, "fallen" Catholics, folks that have left the Church and want to talk about it, folks that want to return to the Church...and without judgement or castigation.
It was not created to supplant OBOB. There is much that one can gain from being in OBOB and participating there.
Please participate and fellowship here...you are very welcome.

I just learned about the Liberal Catholic Subforum, and so, rather than choosing a name, I'm going to free associate about it a little.
The Catholic Forum is called "One Bread, One Body," yes?
And "liberal Catholics" have been consigned to "WWMC", yes?
It seems as though "One Bread, One Body" is making "Liberal Catholics" the "Amputees."
But we can be bigger than that, because Catholicism means "universal," not exclusionary.
How about "Big Tent Catholics?"
Or "All Are Welcome" Catholics?"
Or "Gather Us In?" (In informal polls, conservative Catholics hate this hymn above all others.....)
No, I don't want "Amputees," even though this is obviously what "One Bread, One Body" wants liberal Catholics to be.....
I am assuming that this is a sub-forum where all are welcome but where the rules are somewhat more liberal than in OBOB.

Well, a lot in OBOB don't want those who post here to come back.
The fact that one posts here is proof of being a bad catholic.
I hope that we will all see ourselves as catholic first and liberal or conservative (or orthodox, or any other name) second. We're all catholics and we're all sinners in one way or another.

No, according to the rules all are welcome, and posting about struggles or things you personally disagree with is allowed.
Also, I'm by no means speaking of a majority in OBOB. I still feel welcome there.
I think it's important for us here to continue to post in OBOB - I will. I belong more there than here, although I can see why this subforum has its merits. We shouldn't contribute to an "us" and "them" atmosphere. That's why I personally do not mind non-liberals posting here.
There have been a lot of nasty things said by both sides. I can understand the non-liberal position actually, because some people of OBOB have put a lot of time and effort in making the new wiki rules and they have been very conscientious about making OBOB welcoming for all catholics. This subforum after their effort to make OBOB open for all catholics including liberals, might be seen as a slap in the face. Then the other side accuses them of not having done enough - but they have compromised and I appreciate that.
(sorry if this is too vague, but I didn't want to name names because there have been enough name callings already.)

Rebekkah, I have always felt that faith is a journey.
It's a process.
It's a relationship.
It ebbs and flows.
On one set of proposed OBOB rules I read (which, thankfully, were never enacted,) faith was a signed and sworn loyalty oath.
I want people who will share the journey and the adventure with me, through the highs and the lows.
In the lives of the saints it was always the ones with the messy, complicated lives with whom I could identify, and whom I see as the best role models.
How can the ones who have never really experienced life be good role models for the living?

There are not only crude remarks in the forum creation thread, but my name is thrown around OBOB along with Protinus, as though we are persona non-grata. I do not believe that I am welcome in OBOB anymore.
I wish them no ill will, and I can understand why they are upset, but I don't think that they understand why the creation of this forum was necessary and their placement of blame is misplaced.
I will talk to anyone that is willing, but so far some prefer to talk about me rather than to me. I am going to spend my time here and refrain from posting in OBOB.
I encourage other members though, to post both here and in OBOB if they feel led to do so, but we must keep in mind to post respectfully both here and in OBOB.

Yes, I agree with that. I'm glad that struggling and discussing your struggles is allowed at OBOB. Still there is a lot of "If you can't accept all, then you should leave because you can't be catholic if you can't agree to everything" there.

Personally, I get the feeling if progressives called an ecumenical council, it probably wouldn't *be* at the Vatican. :) Not that that would be a break from tradition, the last two ecumenical councils were the only ones held in the Rome area. Actually, technically, holding two in a row in the same place was a break from trad -- er, nevermind. :) People can feel free to jump in with jokes about Vatican II not being in any way traditional anytime. ;)
Anyhow, just throwing this out there, maybe we should keep the name we have now? It's simple and to the point, everyone probably instantly recognizes the general gist of what we're doing here by the title. It does have some unfortunate connotations in terms of being denounced as a heresy at one time, but, on the third hand, it allows us to cover Liberal Roman Catholics and the LCC, International without doing backslashes and hyphenations and whatnot. :)

I appreciate the kindness shown to my little slice of the Christian pie, but I feel that the LCCI is too small an influence to be given such prominence here. I'd be happy to leave things as it is, since it does seem to include just about everyone who doesn't have a permanent home elsewhere at CF.
