View Full Version : Suggestion -- Icon change for members of this forum)

I think it would be a good idea if all members who are Charismatic but not Pentecostal--i.e. they don't attend a church like Assemblies of God and don't believe in the initial filling of the Holy Spirit having to be seen in a specific gifts (most commonly Tongues) change their icons to either generic 'Christian' or 'non-denomination' if you are in a Vineyard or Calvary chapel, or something like that, just so we have no accusations of sheep stealing and the like.

it sounds good in theory, but I would say not.

i think what is needed is either to allow people to carry multiple badges, e.g. i would see myself as charismatic, denominational and messianic. but I can only carry one badge so I choose the simplest - christian.

if it was left to me I would remove all the badges. badges are like labels and they only do one one thing that is divide.

I like my icon. I don't really want to change it unless this subforum gets its own icon like WOF has one. :) just my two rubles.

I disagree. Icons or denominations, INCLUDING Word of Faith, should have no bearing on people that come into and post here. The only stipulation should be that they agree with the statements made in the rules. If they disagree, then they can't debate. That WILL cover almost all Word of Faith people (I would venture to say "all"), meaning they won't be posting here. It MAY NOT cover all Pentecostals, meaning some may be able to post here.

talitha
18th July 2007, 12:58 PM
agreeing with Jason.

I want non-cessationist Christians of any denomination to feel welcome here. :) Ideally WOFers would even feel welcome (hence the need for the title change), but only to fellowship, not to promote or argue for their ideas.

oo I like being able to have more icons :) but thats just because I like cool little pictures :P

talitha
18th July 2007, 04:51 PM
We could make this our icon - :P

RadixLecti
19th July 2007, 12:31 AM
Is there anyway we could have a dove overlayed on top of our other icons, similar to the Pentecostal icon?

JAS4Yeshua
19th July 2007, 12:34 AM
The Pentecostal isn't an overlay, that's the actual icon. From what I understand, each faith icon is a separate image, so you cannot combine two without making a whole new faith image for each. Nice idea, but I personally don't think it is practical. Although if you think it is a good idea, you might want to mention it in the Suggest New Features forum.

talitha

We tried several times suggesting this for the general SFPC forum - because it seems that Pentecostals have their own icon - I chose it partly because it was pretty and partly because it was the closest one to where I fit - and now the WOFers, but there was no way to tell which Anglicans/Baptists/NonDenoms/Catholics/Presbyterians/etc. were Charismatic or not. My suggestion was to create an additional icon - like the marriage icon. Neither the overlay nor the additional icon was approved in the end.

As suggested to me in another discussion on Icons, you can change your mood smilie to spirit filled.

JAS4Yeshua
19th July 2007, 11:37 AM
I like my bananas icon. Since they don't have one for "nuts" I figured "bananas" had to do. :D

talitha
19th July 2007, 11:49 AM
I very much think we need our own icon - for those who are not involved in non-Pentecostal denoms.

Ideas anyone?

JAS4Yeshua
19th July 2007, 12:01 PM
Because we're from a variety of denominations and church affiliations, I don't think it would be possible to find one icon to fit everyone. Would an Anglican use our icon or theirs, for example?

talitha
19th July 2007, 12:11 PM
Jason, I'm talking about people like me who really don't have an icon of their own. I chose the Pentecostal icon by mistake, and I'm keeping it for now because there isn't one that suits me better.

JAS4Yeshua
19th July 2007, 12:13 PM
Makes sense. I just chose non-denomination because they didn't have a Calvary Chapel icon. ;)

Redheadedstepchild
19th July 2007, 12:25 PM
I like the idea of having an additional icon for charismatic - wonder if TPTB would reconsider adding it in light of all the changes?

Of course, after awhile it's a bit like adding girl scout badges. One day I hope to earn my holiness badge.;)

talitha
19th July 2007, 12:32 PM
hey, we could have a badge for each manifestation of the Spirit! ;)

A member needs to make an icon, in the correct size, in transparent gif.

From what I remember of the thread in the suggest new features forum, Erwin was willing to create a new Icon for spirit-filled but he wanted us to submit a design in transparent gif format and the correct size, so if anyone has got any suggestions has to how it should be I'll have a go if you like.

Heres a link to that thread.

Sorry, guys, but I wouldn't take a different icon. I'm Spirit-filled, and charismatic, but that is only one part of my walk. My down-to-earth solid doctrine is Lutheran, and it would be deceiving to not warn people ahead of time that if they engage me in doctrinal discussion they'll get confessional, historical, Scriptural replies.

I get enough strange looks when people wonder what I'm doing in SFPC in the first place.. it would just be compounded if I weren't up-front about my doctrine on things other than the charisms.

That's why I use the Spirit-filled emotion icon (and I think I was the one who suggested it in the previous dicsussion thread about this).

"Charismatic" is not a denomination. Denomination has to do with overall doctrinal emphases, traditions, and the "stream" of Christian thought that your church is part of.

Plus... and I know some people will disagree with me on this one... I firmly believe that every Christian is Spirit-filled, even if they don't see the power of the charisms in their life. It's part of our Baptism (even if we were baptized as infants).

Just so you know, I'm not against folks creating a new icon. But I won't use it.

Redheadedstepchild
19th July 2007, 02:23 PM
When I say additional, I mean I would continue to wear the methodist icon, along with a charismatic one (in theory) without having to give up my smilie to do it.

talitha
19th July 2007, 02:23 PM
synger, no problemo! I did say before that I want any Charismatic of any stripe to feel welcome here~!

I am just wanting an icon because as a non-denom-Charismatic I don't have one that fits me. I do not wish to identify by icon with non-denom here at CF, and if you were to take a look into that congregational forum, you'd see why, I'm sure...... *sigh*

somebody got an idea for an icon, and I will whip it into photoshop or how about people bringing in a whole lot, and then we could put up a poll to which one people like the most

However if you all have suggestions then post em quick, coz I have one whole day off, and while I have to run some messages, it is all mine for other liesure

Exactly !! I am non-denom , home/non group , charasmatic , non-wof .

I agree - I don't like badges . I don't consider them to divide but I don't like them .

Thanks to talitha, even though she doesn't know it, but I used here dove avatar for the image.

Tim
Funny thing is I am pentecostal with charasmatic tendencies and consider myself nondenominational. I attend a church that is Charasmatic in style of worship, and that believes in the gifts, but doesn'have have them operating outrightly and I am not persay a distraction, (such as prophesying etc), but do worship freely and paise the Lord, but as not to offend I stay within their rules...I used to worship when I would come home at my parents Lutheran church, but wouldn't do the same Persay be a distraction, I sang the hymns with gusto...not beingattention drawing and would condensate like a sweating coke bottle the Spirit and my Excitement and vigor for Him through my vocal chords and just worship him in song. I was saved in a Vineyard Christian Fellowship in 91, but I am a Christian before all other lables!!! :)

I don't pray in a prayer language out loud in services, but have one and do so privately.

So I guess I said all that to say I don't know which I would end up using. :)

posting a mod hat of explaination in here.
several old posts in this thread have been deleated by staff today.
At the time of their posting they were determined by staff to need attention because of flaming or off topic posting. However in the normal course of moderation (and due to inadequate numbers of staff at the time) these posts were subsequently removed from view by staff and then forgotten.
They were recently brought to our attention again, and the consensus of staff today has been that they needed to be deleated. this has now been done.
We are sorry about the delay in moderation in this thread, and hope to improve our service to the SF/PC forum.
